Long Beach was the backdrop for another law enforcement agency's search for an outstanding suspect for the second time Tuesday afternoon.
This time it was the Los Angeles Police Department's SWAT team that closed a portion of Pacific Avenue, between 21st and Hill Street, as they searched for one of their suspects, officers at the scene said.
The search began shortly after noon when the LAPD notified local authorities they were in the area, said Lisa Massacani, a Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman.
Long Beach officers were helping with traffic control and the evacuation of some homes on the street, Massacani said.
The area remained shut down as of 4:40 p.m., but it was not clear who the LAPD was after.
Officers as the scene said a mother and child were able to get out of the residence, but there may be others trapped inside with the unidentified suspect or suspect.
Massacani referred questions about the investigation to the LAPD, which refused to comment on the incident noting their SWAT team has not released any information.
The search marked the second time Tuesday that Long Beach had another agency in town to pick up a suspect.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators, including their SWAT team, shut down most of the Seventh Street, Bellflower Boulevard, Pacific Coast Highway intersection after a 19-year-old murder suspected wanted out of Los Angeles was found at the Motel 6.
Suspect Victor Ayala was arrested without incident after a roughly five hour stand off in the motel, police said.
