LONG BEACH -- An at-large parolee and possible burglary suspect has barricaded himself inside a home in Downtown Long Beach, police said Friday afternoon.
Authorities are urging residents and motorists to avoid the area if possible as a SWAT team and many other officers surround the area.
Police were trying to detain the suspect at about 3 p.m. when he ran from officers and broke into an unoccupied residence, said Sgt. Rico Fernandez, a Long Beach Police Department spokesman.
"No one else was inside at the time," said Fernandez, who noted it did not appear to be the home of the suspect.
More information is expected later today.
