LONG BEACH -- A DUI checkpoint is scheduled for this weekend in North Long Beach.
The Long Beach Police Department will conduct the checkpoint, which will screen for impaired drivers and those driving on suspended or without licenses, from 6 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday in the North Division, said Lisa Massacani, a Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman.
The grant-funded checkpoint is aimed at reducing the number of people killed and/or injured in alcohol involved crashes, Massacani said.
The public is also encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see an impaired driver, she said.
Funding is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
