That was quick. Wyoming has scored a 14-1, four-inning, mercy-rule victory over Alaska. The game took only 1 hour, 27 minutes - most of it chewed up by a second inning during which Wymong sent 19 men to the plate and scored all of its runs.

Dylan Bainer hit a two-run home run for Wyoming. Also pacing the Laramie team were Drew Burman, Tommy Naghtigal and Brian Lopez with two hits each.

Wyoming has scored six in the second and leads Alaska 6-1. There is one out and the bag are drunk and Alaska is making a pitching change. This could be a long game ... or a short one if it's a mercy rule.

Oregon 11, Alaska 5: postgame quotes

| | Comments (0)
Oregon pitcher Reza Aleaziz:
On his performance:
"I think I did OK. I didn't throw as hard as I could've, but I hit my spots. That's what my coaches have been asking me to do."

On his game-winning home run:
"It was really cool hitting that home run and giving the team the lead, but like my coach said, anybody on the team can hit a home run."

Oregon manager Scott Zanon:
On his team's offense:
We got a little bit of a late start for a manager. That's not good for your heart. We generally hit the ball pretty hard when we're disciplined. When we talked about it (getting disciplined) after the fourth inning, we did it."

On hitting three straight home runs for the second straight day:
I'm not surprised anymore. We did it once at district as well.

On his team's outlook for the rest of the tournament:
I feel good about it, but any one team can beat any other team in this tournament. We're going to have to play our best baseball from here on out.

On who will start the next game:
No, I don't (know). I usually figure that one out about 3 a.m. when I wake up.

Dimond-West LL manager Bryant Thorp:
On his team's adjustment to the California summer:
Given a few days in the heat, we've gotten a little acclimated to it. We got here early.

What happened toward the end of the game to break the tie?
My pitcher got tired and left 'em hanging.

On his attitude coming into the game:
They have one good pitcher (Whitney) who they started against Wyoming. My attitude was, I hope they don't start that kid again and they didn't, so I was optimistic.

On his attitude following the game:
I feel we can compete. There's a few more (games) I feel we can compete in. The butterflies are gone.

Murrayhill Little League of Beaverton, Ore. has hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to open up an 11-5 lead on Dimond-West LL of Anchorage, Alaska.

Jake Scherer slammed the first, a two-run shot that barely cleared the wall in left-center, just past the outstretched glove of Alaska centerfielder Toni Bost.

Jacob Zanon hit the second, a more decisive shot over the wall in right-center.

Chandler Whitney belted the third, and longest home run, into the tents in left field - an opposite-field shot for the lefty.

Oregon also hit three consecutive home runs in the fifth inning of its 25-14 victory over Wyoming on Saturday morning.

Midgame report: Oregon 6, Alaska 5, 4th inning

An unlikely competitive game has emerged between Murrayhill Little League of Beaverton, Ore. and Dimond-West LL of Anchorage Alaska.

Alaska, you might recall, was the victim of a 20-1 blowout loss Saturday to Washington. Oregon, meanwhile, was on the happy side of a mercy-rule win in its first game here, 25-14 over Wyoming.

But the two have been trading back-and-forth blows all day, a display of good fundamental defense and better hitting.

Reza Aleaziz, Oregon's starting pitcher, helped his own cause by hitting a tie-breaking home run off the roof of the right-field souvenir shop in the bottom of the third.
