Nevada 8, Arizona 6

Silverado Little League of Las Vegas scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 5-5 tie and clinch its second win of the West Region tournament.

Pitcher Jayzen Ramirez went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI, both on his fifth-inning home run that proved to be the game-winner. The left-hander allowed five hits and five runs — all earned — in four innings while walking five and striking out four.

Omar Ortiz Jr. went 3 for 4 with an RBI for Nevada and Buddie Pindel pitched two innings of relief to get the win.

Rio Rico (Arizona) Little League scored five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Michael Escobar’s three-run home run to left field. Cesar Dominguez Jr. went 2 for 2 with two RBI and a run scored.

Utah 5, Nevada 3

Washington Little League took a huge step toward advancing to the West Region semifinals, riding a combined 10 strikeouts from Marc Mcarthur and Tanner Staheli and a two-run home run by Seth Corry to victory over Wailuku Central East Maui Little League.

Corry’s two-run homer in the third, the first home run of the tournament for Utah (2-1), scored Erik Sanchez and provided the margin of victory. Mcarthur struck out nine Hawaii batters in 4 2/3 innings of work while Staheli got Utah out of a jam in the fifth and pitched a scoreless sixth to pick up the save. Utah can clinch a berth into the semifinals tomorrow when it faces Northern California at 4:30 p.m tomorrow.

Errors and strikeouts sabotaged Hawaii (0-3) yet again, as it committed five errors and now has struck out 38 times in three tournament games. Kao Mindoro hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth while Kaipo Paschoal added an RBI single for Hawaii, which will play Northern California at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Montana 5, Alaska 4

Gabe Sulser came home on a Toby Allred wild pitch on an intentional walk in the bottom of the sixth inning, capping a two-run rally for Billings Big Sky Little League in their victory over Anchorage Abbott O Rabbit Little League.

Alaska (0-3) decided to walk Cole McKenzie – who had an inside-the-park home run in the first inning and a two-run homer in the fifth to put Montana (2-1) up 3-2 – with runners on second and third with two out. But on the third ball of the intentional walk, Allred’s pitch few over the glove of catcher Julito Fazzini to the backstop, allowing Sulser to come home. Montana can clinch a berth in the regional semifinals with a win over Idaho Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

The loss was the second consecutive in which Alaska lost a lead on their opponent’s last at-bat. It took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Anthony Maldonado tripled in the tying run and scored on a two-out single by Parker Johnson. Maldonado also singled and scored in the first for Alaska, which plays Idaho at 7:30 p.m.

Northern California 3, Hawaii 0

Right-hander Hagen Danner and left-hander Nick Pratto combined to no-hit Central East Maui Little League before a packed house at Al Houghton Stadium.

Danner (nine strikeouts in four innings) and Pratto (five strikeouts in two innings) each allowed just one runner to reach base. At the plate, Danner broke up a no-hitter by Hawaii starter Orion Miyasato-Farias in the fifth inning with his double to left-center field.

Trevor Windisch had went 1 for 2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI single in the fifth inning for Ocean View Little League. Ocean View, which lost to a squad from Waipio, Hawaii, in last year’s championship game, is the only West team at 2-0. Hawaii is the only West team with an 0-2 record.

Washington 11, Idaho 5

North Bothell Little League of Bothell, Washington hit three home runs among its 10 hits to improve to 2-0.

Miles Jackson hit a pair of home runs, one to center field and another to right-center, and finished 3 for 3 with four RBI. Starting pitcher Carson Ryder helped his own cause with a solo home run into the left-field corner to kickstart a four-run third inning.

Derek Lohr and Elijah Satsuma Diggins both went 2 for 4 in the victory.

Lewiston (Idaho) Little League (1-1) never led in the game. They had eight hits but could not capitalize, leaving 10 runners on base. Rhett Crane went 2 for 2 with a run, and Leyton Wallace went 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

Northern California 4, Nevada 0

Lane Pritchard had an RBI triple and a solo home run while combining with Wesley Clawson on a five-hit shutout as Red Bluff Little League dealt Las Vegas Silverado its first postseason loss.

Pritchard was one of three Northern California players to triple against Nevada (1-1), as Kolby Button and Clawson tripled in the first inning, with Clawson driving Button in. Pritchard knocked in Button in the third and scored before capping things off with a solo home run. He pitched three innings of scoreless relief after Clawson started it off with three scoreless innings for Nor Cal (1-1), which next plays Utah Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Nevada, which plays Arizona tomorrow at 4:30 p.m., had two scoring opportunites killed by Nor Cal double plays. Jacob Rogers grounded into a 6-3 double play to end the second with a runner in scoring position while Mikey Ruiz popped into a double play in the fourth with a failed bunt to the pitcher with runners on first and second with no outs

Wyoming 12, Alaska 6

Taylor Dodd went 3-for-4 and finished a triple short of the cycle as Laramie Little League exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Anchorage Abbott O Rabbit Little League in the second pool-play game for both teams.

Dodd’s three-run home run in the fifth capped off the Wyoming (1-1) uprising, as it took advantage of four Alaska walks and an error in sending 11 batters to the plate. The other hit in the fifth was also a biggie, as Reid Baty’s ground-rule double to centerfielder plated two and put Wyoming, which plays Washington at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Alaska (0-2) jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 6-3, as it was ahead the majority of the game. Julito Fazzini doubled twice, with the second double plating two runs in the fourth. Alaska will play Montana at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Southern California 10, Northern California 2

Huntington Beach Ocean View Little League jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Red Bluff Little League recorded an out, allowing it to cruise to the 10-2 victory. Hagen Danner went 3-for-4 and scored two runs to lead So Cal, as Ocean View is making its second consecutive trip to the Western Regional.

Jason Mayorga tripled and scored in the fifth and drove in a run in the sixth as well for So Cal, which was able to save its top pitchers due to the early lead. So Cal will play against Hawaii at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

Lane Pritchard stood out for Nor Cal, which takes on Nevada at 2 p.m. tomorrow, driving in a third-inning run and making two acrobatic plays to rob So Cal from his shortstop position.

Arizona 3, Hawaii 2

Rio Rico Little League pitcher Angel Chavez finished one batter short of a perfect game against Wailuku Central East Maui Little League, but Arizona had to hold on for dear life to defeat Hawaii 3-2.

Chavez was overpowering in retiring Hawaii’s first 17 batters, striking out 14 of them. But a walk to Keoka Ostermiller started a two-run rally for Hawaii (0-1), which got singles from Kao Mindoro and Orion Miysato-Farias, the latter scoring Mindoro to put Hawaii within one run. Arizona reliever Cesar Dominguez relieved Chavez to get the last out and record the save.

Arizona (1-1) scored its three runs in the fourth inning, getting three hits off of Hawaii pitcher Nawai Kaupe. Michael Escobar and Dominguez each had RBIs in the game.

Arizona will get a day off before playing Nevada at 4:30 p.m. Monday while Hawaii plays Southern California at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

Nevada 8, Utah 3

Silverado Little League starter Cade Adams flirted with a no-hitter and Nevada scored six runs in the first inning en route to an 8-3 victory over Utah in its tournament opener.

Adams fell two outs shy of the tournament’s second-no hitter and allowed only one runner to reach base (on a first-inning walk) through five innings. Jagun Leavitt’s single through the third base/shortstop hole broke up the no-hitter and started a three-run inning for Washington (Utah) Little League.
But it was too little, too late. Nevada sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, buoyed by two walks, two errors, and two singles to start the game. Omar Ortiz, Jr. went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI; Christian Turner went 2-for-4 with a double; Brock Hershberger and Mikey Ortiz had two RBIs each. 
Adams (1-0) struck out 10, allowed two hits and walked three in 5 1/3 innings. Buddie Pindel recorded the final two outs in relief.
