The Spiro Experience
When Spirodon Nicolopoulos said that he would meet me at Fox Coffee (formerly GFE), he said that he would be wearing a brown hat. Instead a man without a hat, but with a hand full of CDs approached and said that he had forgotten his hat.
A gregarious and positive person, Spiro carried himself with professionalism and accessibility. He reeked of passion for the career he had created for himself and the people that he was trying to affect through his music.
Performing the final show for Music at the Loft on Wednesday night, Spiro played his music despite a lack of audience. This passion for his art that I spoke of earlier was made clear in his performance. He would have given his all if there were 10, 20 or 100 people stuffed into the Mitten building. It is the music that is most important.

For all intents and purposes...
Having represented the local music scene in a weekly column for the past three months, I have realized how much there is to cover, how much talent lives in our fair city and how much of it needs to be recognized.
For my musical interest I have been called many things — a music elitist, CD Nazi, band aid. I am usually a very focused individual, but I definitely have music ADD (not to be confused with musical Tourette’s). I am as enthralled with music as a person can be, even without playing any of my own. (Not that I haven’t in the past. It is a hobby that I have desired to go back to on many occasions and soon will!)
But you could never wrench me from listening, appreciating and feeling music. Thus I naturally fell into the local music scene column at the Daily Facts, being able to share my interest with the community.
Aside from telling all of you about our brilliant little/big music scene in a weekly profile, I will now have the opportunity to talk about behind the scenes action, things that I might not have mentioned in the profile, conversations that might have occurred later or live shows worth discussing.
But this is an open dialogue and I can only hope that those who are interested in the local music scene will tune in, drop a note, tell me about a band that no one knows about or an artist that needs recognition. And, if anything else, I will see you at the show. I am all ears.
