Fall CD Release Parties
Two local bands are holding CD release parties this month with promotional tours to follow.
Bucksworth will hold a CD release party for their third CD, “Things Found Walking With Yer Head Down, 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, with Los Angeles-based band 50 Cent Haircut at the Fender Lounge Fender Guitar Museum, 365 North Main St., Corona. And Yucaipa-based band Phoenix and the Turtle will hold a party for their second album, “Asleep in America, 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at 5ifty Bucks Gallery, 233 E. Second St., Pomona.
Seen at such venues as The Vault and the Kibitz Room at Canters, Buckworths band members include Mark Nemetz on guitar, mandolin and lead vocals; Jason Shultz on percussion; Lisa Nemetz on guitar, percussion and back-up vocals; Matt McGunigle on pedal steel guitar, electric and acoustic guitars, and back-up vocals; and Stephan Silveira on electric and stand-up bass and back-up vocals.
The all-original CD has the most songs Bucksworth has ever had on one album.
“We’re really proud of all the songs; it’s a really strong record, Mark Nemetz said.
Though it is difficult to put the band’s sound in a box, Nemetz said that the band’s new album has rock, country and Latin elements to it.
“It just sounds like the Southwest, he said.
Though the production of the album took two months of studio time, Nemetz said the creation of the music and lyrics took about 38 years.
“Some songs are songs that I started to write a few years ago … (and then) new songs popped up at last the minute, he said.
The band has played many of the songs at live shows far before the CD was released, but are now looking to perform and promote the entire album.
After a few local shows, including the CD release party, Bucksworth will be joining the Super Stunts Tour.
The Super Stunts Tour will present daredevil sports performed with live music components. The tour will take Bucksworth all over the country to perform.
Bucksworth’s CD release party has a $5 cover charge and is open to anyone 21 and older.

Also performing at the Glasshouse in Pomona at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, Phoenix and the Turtle is an experimental, progressive rock band composed of Cahn Curtis singing vocals, and playing guitar and keyboard; David Barrington on bass; Mikie Curtis on drums; and Valerie Curtis singing vocals and playing guitar, violin, cello and keyboard.
According to Barrington, the new CD is a little different from their previous album, “Sunday’s a Good Day for Relaxing.
“It has a different feel to it, he said. “It’s a little darker.
Most of the album is composed of original music, but also includes two cover songs — the Misfits “She and the Ramones “Bonzo goes to Bitburg.
“We’re pretty happy with the way these came out, Barrington said.
After the release party, Phoenix and the Turtle plan to tour California.
“Nothing is scheduled as of now, Barrington said. “But we are going to be following up on some shows in Northern and Southern California.
The Phoenix and the Turtle CD release party has a $5 cover charge and is open to all ages.
