Hobo Jazz releases first official album
Local band Hobo Jazz will hold a CD release party 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Vault on Vine Street for the release of their first official CD, “Old Lester’s Speakeasy.
The album has been a project for band members Matt Coleman, Marquis Howell and Joe Perez for the past four years.
The band originally wanted to release the album as a vinyl record, but settled for a CD. All fourteen tracks were recorded at various studios, including Howell’s own living room giving the album that “dusty record sound.
According to Howell, the band’s first album is nothing different from what Hobo fans know and love.
“The first record was a replication of what we are, he said. “We might throw in something different in the future, but this is pure Hobo Jazz.
The album is half original music and half cover songs including Hobo classic, “Easy Chair. At the CD release party, 50 copies of a limited edition version of the album will be available Hobo style.
Howell’s wife, Nicole, is also happy for the album’s release.
“Since I met him it’s been a major goal of his, she said. “The songs I heard from the studio are amazing. I like how they sound old. They did a really good job.
Nicole is also excited to finally have CDs and t-shirts to sell at shows.
Before the party, Hobo Jazz’s music will also be featured on KUCR 88.3 FM show “The Vinyl Hours, with Tina Bold, 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.
Hobo Jazz will also provide music for an art show 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Back to the Grind, 3537 University Ave., Riverside.
