Cal League notes: All-stars to Modesto, Gwinnett goes North

A couple of Cal League notes found while perusing the internet:

1) Former Quakes General Manager North Johnson has been named general manager for the Gwinnett Braves of the Triple-A International League. Johnson was Quakes GM from 2004-06 before returning to the Carolina League, where he has been GM of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for the last 3 seasons. Gwinnett was in its first season in a new ball park last year after moving from Richmond, Virginia, but finished 12th in the 14-team International League in attendance.

2) Modesto will host the California League/Carolina League all-star game in 2011. The annual game generally rotates from a California League host to a Carolina League host. Last year the game was in Lake Elsinore, this year, the game will be in Myrtle Beach. This is the first time Modesto is hosting the California/Carolina game. The last time Modesto hosted the game it was 1992, when it was purely an all-California affair. The Quakes last hosted the game in 2003, the 66ers in 2004.
