Former Quakes and Miller High School left-hander Robert Fish was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Royals from the New York Yankees on Sunday.
Fish was taken by the Yankees from the Angels in the Major League Rule 5 draft in December. In 4 2/3 innings this spring with the Yankees, he allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three.
After making one appearance for the Quakes in 2007, Fish went 1-6 with a 6.39 ERA for the Quakes in 2009, and then 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA with them last year before he was promoted to Double-A Arkansas.
Fish has struggled since then. He went 3-5 with two saves and an 8.93 ERA in 39 appearances for Arkansas, then went 0-2 with a 10.45 ERA in 11 appearances with Mesa in the Arizona Fall League. He struck out 11 in 10 1/3 innings with Mesa, but allowed 17 hits and walked five.
