Meanwhile President Bush Is Demanding a Pot Hole Be Fixed on Haight Street In Front of the Squat and Gobble
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is debating whether or not to pass a resolution calling for the investigation and impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.
It drives me nuts when local officials--they're famous for it in Los Angeles and Santa Monica--do this.
Memo to the S.F. Board of Supervisors: You have neither power nor influence over Congress. You do, however, have local responsibilitiers to attend to.
Every minute you waste posturing on national politics is time that could have gone to making life better for your constituents.
And if you succeed in making this a local political issue, you'll see your local elections devolve into contests between candidates campaigning on issues they'll have no control over once elected--a sure recipe for an elected body that enacts lots of local policies that voters don't particularly support.

I truly agree! Politicians these days, at what ever level are too busy trashing one another than actually handling their own responsibilities. Yes, its always to easier to criticize, but the idea that millions of lives depend on you doing your job right yet to you waste your time in petty 5-year old "im-telling mommy" arguments baffles me. NOTHING is being accomplished at the federal, state, or local level. Its ridiculous and a true waste of our time. Then you wonder why so many people are choosing not to vote. I am certainly not defending it but its coming to a point where there is nothing to really vote for. When ANTI-Bush, ANTI-Kerry campaigns are all that fill the TV screens and news paper highlights, one must feel as though they are feeding the great “I’m better you suck� monster that resides on Capital Hill. My advice to the politicians is what the Bible says: first pull the log out of your own eye before you point out the speck in another’s.

I do not what the Lost Angeles official have done but I am going to use them as an example for my response. I agree that it is very hypocritical for local officials to try and correct matters that do not have a direct correlation to problems that need to be resolved at home. If for example Bush was passing a law that affected firefighting capabilities in Los Angeles, then I would see it as necessary for the local officials to try and punish the office above them for incompetence. But until there is something specific, the local governments should solve their problems before tackling problems from up high.
