The United States Condemns Danish Cartoons

This is interesting:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington on Friday condemned caricatures in European newspapers of the Prophet Mohammad, siding with Muslims who are outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.

Instapundit has reactions.

UPDATE: UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh says the State Department defended freedom of expression more than the Reuters story reflects.

ANOTHER UPDATE: His co-blogger David Bernstein is criticizing those threatening violence for enjoying the fruits of liberalism while rejecting the freedom that brought it about.
