The numbers game

All 20 fighters made weight Friday at the UFC on Fox 4 weigh-ins at Staples Center, but there was one minor surprise.

Eyebrows arched when Lyoto Machida was announced at 201 pounds –5 pounds under the light heavyweight limit, with the added 1-pound grace allowance. His opponent, Ryan Bader, stepped on the scale at 205 pounds.

When asked by Fuel TV’s Ariel Helwani if the 201 mark was a sign that Machida might be stepping down to the 185-pound middleweight class, all Machida replied: “Could be.”
