I promised to share the Geoffrey's Comics book club's suggestions for the movie cast of "Y: The Last Man". So on with the show.

So I started with Agent 355 and the suggestion that stuck for me was NAOMIE HARRIS ("Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"). To be 355 you have to be tough enough to protect Yorick Brown, the last man on earth. And if her turn as Selena in "28 Days Later" didn't prove she was bad to the bone then you weren't paying attention.

Alice_Braga.jpg
For Colonel "Alter" Tse'Elon of Israel the group had to mull it over, but ALICE BRAGA ("I Am Legend") worked out for us. Braga would have an opportunity in this film (as a series) to develop this complex character and show her dramatic range.

And, this really matters, Braga doesn't look like a pushover.

Dr. Allison Mann didn't play as big of a part throughout "Unmanned" (Volume one of the 'Y' series) but readers who followed this series know how important she will be in the next nine volumes. So while names like Sandra Oh and Ming Na were thrown out, I suggested GONG LI ("Curse of the Golden Flower").

She can absolutely do everything this part would demand. DJ Caruso, are you listening?

For the Super Model garbage truck driver, can you say 'perfect cameo?' What kind of guy would I be if I were casting a film that's 99.999999% women and didn't have a role for ROSARIO DAWSON?

Diane_Lane.jpgYorick's mother, Representative Jennifer Brown, should be played by DIANE LANE ("Unfaithful"). She would be a good choice to uphold the laws of the land after a man-apocalypse. The group also suggested Susan Sarandon ("Thelma & Louise"). Another terrific choice.

Kate_Walsh.jpgFor the part of "Amazon" leader Victoria, the club suggested "that lady from Grey's Anatomy." That lady would be KATE WALSH, thank you very much.

Maggie_Gyllenhaal.jpg
And it would be appropriate to cast Hero Brown, Yorick's sister, with MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL. This character is a sandbox full of issues that Maggie would do an incredible job with. (This isn't because we think Maggie has issues, we just think she's good.) She would certainly have more to do in this film series than she did in "The Dark Knight."

Ampersand_Marcel.jpg
A group member wanted to make one thing clear, for Ampersand, Yorick's capuchin monkey, no CGI. I have no idea of the whereabouts of Marcel the monkey from "Friends" but he proved to me that we don't need no monkey CGI.

Jake_Gyllenhaal.jpgYou may have guessed by now that the Geoffrey's suggestion considers both Gyllenhaal's to actually portray brother and sister. So JAKE GYLLENHAAL (You know who he is) should, in our opinion, play Yorick Brown. J.G. could capture the humor, immature acts and brilliant moments this character has. This is not meant to offend anyone looking forward to Shia LaBeouf in this part, but the book club gotta do what the club gotta do.

Any "Y: The Last Man" readers got any suggestions of your own? Comments are appreciated.
