Heroes Watch: Keeping the story on track

"Heroes" is going to have a tough road this season because it has the unenviable task of having to both redefine itself and simultaneously return to form.

That's talking out of two sides of my big head, but I'll explain. and here is the SPOILER Ali heroes.jpgWARNING and a request to watch this last episode online before reading on.

I am inserting Ali Larter here as a break because... she's Ali Larter.

And also because her performance and the show's producers have made her the best example of what I'm talking about.

We get the confirmation that NIKKI is dead and TRACY is another superhuman from what appears to be the same gene pool. Nice. We get something new in the form of Larter playing another character from a different side of the tracks. I know, she has played a duel personality before but...

The Tracy plotline is also feeding us an old mystery in the form of NIKKI's origins which we caught a bit of when she was dealing with LINDERMAN. The show still has to stick to its core mystery: Where the heck do these powers come from?

Sure, some say it's saving the world and all, but no one I know who has watched the show the last two seasons really cares. I think there is a chance to get too far away from the main reason DR. SURESH exists in this world, which is to figure out the powers-thing.

And despite that blouse-ripping overacted pre-sex scene Suresh had last week, his mission to figure out how these powers happen (in a mad scientist type way) should drive the show more than another save the world/cheerleader thing.

I started out really excited about this NOAH and SYLAR partnering and while this also gives this show somewhere new to go, all I'm hoping is that it has something to do with the overall story.

It was cool to see the HAITIAN is still around but HIRO and ANDO are killing me.

"Heroes" still makes the TIVO Season Pass and credit is due to the writers this week for adding some new components to the mythology of this series.

I hope they take the ball and run with it.

I agree, Hiro and Ando are killing me too! I thought Hiro had grown a pair after stabbing Sylar at the end of the last season, but he can't even deal with an annoying blond airhead. And we saw at the end of Monday's episode that they were captured and in sector 5. WHAT!!?? I know the Haitian can cancel out Hiro's powers, but have those two Japanese dudes ever heard of running?? I know they can run, I've seen old Godzilla movies... And what, is the Haitian going to just hang out by their cell for the rest of his life? Hiro and Ando looked completely conscious and fine to me. All Hiro has to do is teleport them away when he has the chance. When does Hiro turn into the the badass, sword-wielding vigilante we got a glimpse of before? If only I could take Suresh's formula so I could have the power to kick Hiro in the ass no matter where or when he is.

More characters are taking a step backward so far. But maybe it's all part of a plan the producers of the show have put together.

Hiro needs help. Badly.
