It's not like NBC's "Heroes" has been uneventful -- we've seen events upon events.
Will any of this be enough to win the audience back for a fourth season of the show? I don't know, but I did notice that the show's producers seem to have recognized their greatest special effect is simply writing good characters and good moments for them to shine.
Now, if only the plot can make more sense.
I know some of you remember when it was cool to like CLAIRE (the freakin' invincible cheerleader) and talk about a recent episode with your friends? You don't? Was it really that long ago?
I suppose it was.
Well, I wanted my good characters back and the last couple episodes, Cold Snap and Into Asylum, gave me a chance to have that.
This is the semi-SPOILER point for Heroes Watch and I'll mention a few things from the show after the image below, but I promise to only drop a few details as I attempt to defend the merits of the "Heroes" characters.
DANKO, "the Hunter" is played by actor Zeljko Ivanek who has also appeared on "True Blood" in its first season as "The Magister."
What good characters am I talking about? Who should the "Heroes" writers focus on?
I mean Claire was as heroic and noble as HIRO (the dude who is kind of a time traveler) and she seemed to make better choices than her uncle PETER (has a grab-bag of super powers) PETRELLI.
I recall CLAIRE'S most recent shining moment against the puppet master dude (DOYLE) earlier this season when she had to choose life or death for one of her two mothers. And when the writing for the show works for me in anything, it's when the characters have to make tough choices. When DOYLE resurfaces she helps him when he needs it -- something I certainly wouldn't have done.
And let me give some props to NATHAN PETRELLI (political flying boy), his sorta-evil, sorta-good mom ANGELA (future seeing lady) and NOAH (Claire's dad) who are usually the best acted characters and I noticed the series creators are paying more attention to them.
That's a good idea.

There was a reunion of CLAIRE and her biological father NATHAN and I
thought not only is this the chance to heal some old wounds for CLAIRE,
but it is cool to see their potential now that they'll be teaming up
against the new anti-superhero world order.
And of course the big not-so-surprising revelation of REBEL being MICAH SANDERS (talks with machines) is cool because I think at least one surviving Sanders family member should continue in this series. And not only is his character older, he is infused with purpose (i.e. two dead parents and a reason for fighting evil and all that good stuff). I also think the young actor (Noah Gray-Cabey) who plays MICAH is a breath of fresh air.
Also, in the most recent episodes we also get the THE HUNTER - EMILE DANKO ( a normal human who kills superhumans) teaming up with SYLAR. We got a little bit of this with NOAH earlier in the season and I thought the show runners were onto something, but it fell flat. This DANKO guy is bad news and SYLAR has got his mad-on more than ever after meeting his creepy dad -- who also hungers for and steals powers.
The deal struck between these too evens the odds for DANKO against PETER, NATHAN and others and maybe it gives SYLAR good reason to go back to his super-serial killer ways.
Even though it isn't a big special effects smack down every week, the last two episodes actually moved the story forward and gave me the characters I liked some room to breathe.
I'm not even going to mention HIRO and ANDO right now -- I think a LOT of work has to be done to solve that mess. There were a couple more deaths of regular characters and I'll leave that for you guys to check out.
Some of my friends who were regular viewers and are not now, say the show has become both unweildy and predictable.
How can it be both at the same time?
It can be a problem when the last few storylines start with glimpses of the future and then from that point on all every character on the show does is look for what happens in the future. Twists in the plot happen and if they were not well-executed -- like many in the first half of the season -- you get disappointment.
But I will suggest this to you producers at "Heroes" central: You have something here with this show in the last couple of weeks, but you need to aim these characters toward an ultimate conclusion. Take a note form "Lost" and "Battlestar Galactica."
Eventually answers have to be given and all things have to come to an end.
Can 'Heroes' win its audience back?
Getting ready for round two
And here we go...
Series producers make staff changes
Poll results and it's not pretty
