You have probably heard ad nauseum about my love for the comics work of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev, so I don't need to emphasize HOW MUCH I WANT TO READ THIS NEW BOOK.
Announced a day or so ago on "Attack of the Show" by Blair Butler of "Fresh Ink," Bendis and Maleev will launch their creator-owned title "Scarlet" through Marvel Comics' Icon imprint.
The early word from Butler is that this book will have a real-world setting and a lead character named Scarlet who is instrumental in an American revolution of sorts. Also, the creators will experiment with new narrative techniques.
But do you expect anything less from the creators of the "Spider-Woman" motion comic? Bendis himself mentioned that he and Maleev were proud of their efforts and the amazing iTunes sales for a project that some regular comics fans were not high on. The numbers indicate something else, however, but that's a story for another pos
t.The duo were exhausted after spearheading a defacto animation production ("Spider-Woman") and were ready to focus on a creator-owned book. Still, I sometimes wonder how Bendis can stay focused on his regular titles ("Powers," "Ultimate Spider-Man," "The Avengers") and other projects (teaching courses, consulting on Marvel's films) while creating another book. When it comes to stuff like "Powers," I really like the guy's style, I just don't want him to burn out.
"Scarlet" is expected to hit the shelves in July.
