I had a discussion -- no, a HEATED rant-fest with a fellow movie fan about how too much is revealed in some trailers. As usual, I took the tough-to-defend studio side and said "movies have to explain as much as possible to draw an audience."
Then I watched the the trailer to "Super 8" and realized with some films all you have to say is "Directed by J.J. Abrams," "Produced by Steven Spielberg" and the title.
Anyway, I like a surprise as much as the next guy, so Mr. Abrams, thanks for holding back enough to make this one (sort of) a mystery.
Now, let the internet speculation begin!
Having trouble seeing this clip? See the YouTube trailer here.

Given that the movie hasn't started filming yet, it would be kinda hard to avoid "holding back" material, wouldn't it?
This is what's known as a "teaser trailer." You can expect to see more once they have an actual movie in the can.
You're right, Tim it is a teaser trailer. My hope is that they (studios) do more teasing and stop giving away too much of the plot.
Talking about me again, huh, Rob? At least this trailer didn't give away the plot.
