I was way off in choosing which of the two re-imagined 1980s titans would win in their box-office clash this weekend.

I picked The A-Team to be No. 1 and I was dead wrong. The Karate Kid earned an estimated $56 million, soundly thumping the Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces) action film. The A-Team made only $26 million in its opening according to Hollywood.com.

It appears as if Team underperformed some domestically considering its estimated $110 million production budget. Worldwide figures will determine if we'll be revisiting the 1980s in a sequel with Hannibal, B.A. and Face anytime soon.

The updated Karate Kid starring Will Smith's kid Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, has already made significant earnings against its $40 million budget, with even more in the offing if it gets enough play worldwide.

Even though I wasn't a big fan of the show, I watched The A-Team this weekend and found it to be quite enjoyable.

From the Associated Press: Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Monday.
