By way of MTV, the trailer for the upcoming animated adaptation of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman limited series.

Thumbnail image for allstarsuperman.jpg The well-reviewed comic book is adapted by DC Comics animation veteran, Dwayne McDuffie, who also worked on Justice League Unlimited and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths and it's directed by Sam Liu. (Grant Morrison is also credited for screenplay on Internet Movie Database).

It's a tough call to put a film adaptation into works of a beloved maxi-series so soon after it ended.  But hey, that may be the best time to do it.

Anyway, expect plenty of comparison from fans of Morrison and Quitely's book who say the story can't be crammed into 80-plus minutes.  As I've mentioned before, I have faith in McDuffie's ability to take this on and I understand that this isn't the comic -- IT'S THE ANIMATED ADAPTATION.

The flick features the voice talents of James Denton (Desperate Housewives) as Superman, Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) as Lois Lane and Anthony LaPaglia (Without A Trace) as Lex Luthor.

The trailer indicates that the direct-to-video project is set for Winter 2011.
