Officers recognized for heroic efforts

Officers Gloria Mireles, Ashley Westall, and Shannon Juarez were invited to attend a Moreno Elementary School assembly to receive recognition by students, parents, and school officials for their heroic efforts of Feb.6.

The school was placed on lockdown for five hours to keep students safe while officers negotiated with Adrian Bonadie , 34,  who barricaded himself in the home. The standoff ended with an elderly Montclair couple dead and two police officers wounded.

Students wrote "thank you" letters to the officers; but seeing Mireles, Westall, and Juarez in person assured the students the officers were safe.

I appreciation of their peace-keeping efforts, the officers were presented with "Moreno Tigers" t-shirts at the Feb. 24 assembly.
