Filing period starts today
The filing period for candidates in the Nov. 2 begins today.
More than 70 Inland Valley seats will be up for grabs in the general election.
The filing period ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 6, but will be extended to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 for any race in which an incumbent fails to file.
"This is going to be a big election," said Kathy Payne, elections analyst with the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.

On top of city, school, water and special districts, there will be state propositions and perhaps in some cases city measures to vote on.
The San Bernardino County runoff election for 2nd District supervisor will also be on the ballot.
"There will also be state constitutional offices, United States Senate, congressional offices and state Senate and Assembly seats that will need to be voted on," Payne said.
Those interested in running for city councils should file papers with the city clerks in their cities.
School and water district candidates should contact San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters' office, 777 E. Rialto Ave., San Bernardino, 800-881-8683 or 909-387-8300; or Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office, 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk, 800-815-2666.
Candidates will receive informational handbooks when they pull papers. Seats held by the following officials will be up for election on the November ballot:
City Councils
CHINO - Council members Earl Elrod and Eunice Ulloa.
CHINO HILLS - Mayor Bill Kruger and Councilmen Peter Rogers and Ed Graham.
FONTANA - Councilmen Frank Scialdone and John Roberts, City Clerk Tonia Lewis and Treasurer Janet Koehler-Brooks. Mayor Mark Nuaimi's seat is empty after he resigned his position this month; at least two potential candidates have expressed interest in running.
ONTARIO - Mayor Paul Leon and Councilmen Alan Wapner and Jim Bowman. All three have said they intend to run again.
MONTCLAIR - Mayor Paul Eaton and Councilmen Leonard Paulitz and Bill Ruh. Eaton and Paulitz have said they will run.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - Mayor Don Kurth, Councilman Rex Gutierrez and Councilwoman Diane Williams are up for re-election. Gutierrez and Williams have indicated in past interviews they plan to run for re-election. After a loss in the Assembly race last month, Kurth said he was undecided about his political future. Councilman Dennis Michael has indicated he will run for the mayor's seat.
UPLAND - Councilmen Brendan Brandt, Ray Musser and Tom Thomas.
