The city's first senior center is under construction and is expected to open in October. The $5 million, 11,000-square-foot facility is housed in the Civic Center between the Youth and Community Center and City Hall at 5111 Benito St.
"This is going to be a place where seniors can meet other seniors," said Julie Sage, 73, a city volunteer and Pomona resident.

"My goal is to make the senior center a one-stop shop for seniors. We will still use the community center but with the new center - the sky is the limit."
