Final Mission Boulevard work soon to begin
After several months of review, city officials have finally received authorization from Caltrans to advertise for bids for the final phase of the Mission Boulevard Corridor Improvement Project.
This project extends from Pipeline Avenue to the San Bernardino County line.
The project is also the culmination of efforts begun in the late 1990s to address drainage issues, provide pavement rehabilitation, increase lighting, plant landscaping, and otherwise improve the appearance of Mission Boulevard from the west city limit at Pomona to Benson Avenue, said City Manager Ed Starr in his weekly report to the city.
Most of the earlier phases of improvements were funded by Measure I and the Redevelopment Agency. The availability of federal funds for the last three phases helped with funding improvements, but also meant complying with federal and state requirements not normally needed for city-funded projects, Starr said.
Federal participation in this project is about $550,000.
Phase 9 improvements will be advertised this week with construction taking place this summer.
