Deputy police chief retires after 28 years
After more than 28 years of dedicated service, police Deputy Chief Steve Lux will retire.
Lux will soon be starting a new career with Vons Corporation as a district loss prevention investigator.
Lux acknowledges the great career he has had with the Montclair Police Department, and he will cherish the memories of his time "on the streets" and working with his fellow city employees.
A retirement party will be held for him at a later date.
Earth Day event planned today for fifth-graders
Chino Basin Water Conservation District will host their 20th annual Earth Day event today.
The event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4594 San Bernardino Street in Montclair .
Fifth grade students from the cities of Chino, Montclair , Ontario, Upland and Rancho Cucamonga will be at the event learning about water conservation and other environmental issues.
One thousand fifth graders will also spend their day at various activities, such as characteristics of drought tolerant plants, worm-composting, how rivers run, and how water percolates into the Chino Basin.
In addition, this year the Wyland Foundation will be showcasing its 83-foot long Wyland Clear Water Mobile Learning Center. Additionally, the event will showcase over twenty exhibitors from local government organizations, water and other utility agencies, and wildlife organizations.

City's first Volunteer Fair planned on Saturday
The city will celebrate its inaugural Volunteer Fair on Saturday.
The community is invited to attend and learn about the many volunteer opportunities available for most age groups - from high school students to seniors and families.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Montclair Community Center.
Prospective volunteers will be able to talk to representatives from 15 different organizations about available opportunities. Door prizes and refreshments will be included.

Metro Gold Line workshop slated Tuesday
The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority, the Federal Transit Administration and city officials will hold a workshop on the proposed Montclair Gold Line station on Tuesday.
The Gold Line is part of a proposed 12.6-mile extension of the Metro Gold Line from Azusa to Montclair currently under environmental review.
The workshop is an opportunity to learn more about the proposed station plan and provide feedback on ways to make it better.
Join in on the Station Planning Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Montclair Senior Center (behind City Hall) at 5111 Benito St.
Gold Line station planning requirements and the proposed Montclair station location will be reviewed, followed by a discussion in which you can provide feedback to be considered in the planning process.
Additional workshops are being hosted in the cities of Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona and Claremont.

Mark your calendars for the 22nd annual Golden Follies to be held on April 16.
This senior citizens talent showcase themed "Viva Las Vegas" will feature more than 120 performers, including solo acts, choral groups, and line and tap dancers, from the West End cities of Chino, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, and Montclair .
More than 400 people are expected to attend this traditionally popular event from 2 to 4 p.m. April 16 at the Community Center, 5111 Benito St., Montclair .
