This CareerBuilder survey reveals the most unusual requests or suggestions hiring managers received in the suggestion box:


•Request to allow people to change clothes in their cubicles.
•Request to add a tanning bed to the break room.
•Request to put beer in the vending machine.
•Request that jail time be covered under family medical leave.
•Request to institute bikini Fridays.
•Request to only be required to work during daylight hours because employee is scared of the dark.
•Request for a special smoking area for medical marijuana.
•Request that the HR person wear nicer shoes.
•Request for more time off to pursue side business as a clown.
•Request to replace his desk with a futon so employee could lay down and work.
•Request that the lactation room with gliding chair be used for naps, so everyone can use it.
•Request to install a swimming pool for employees to use.
•Request to have the team meeting to be held in Hawaii.

Is Your Boss a Monster?

Nearly one-in-five (18%) of workers describe their workplace as scary, according to CareerBuilder's Halloween survey released today.

In some cases, workers thought their boss resembled famous halloween characters. Here's how workers viewed their bosses, according to the survey:

•Glenda the Good Witch, liked and respected by all - 20%

•The Wolf Man, is fine one minute, howling the next - 11%
•The Invisible Man, never around - 10%
•Casper the Friendly Ghost, eager to help, but often misunderstood - 9%
•Dracula, constantly sucking the life right out of you - 6%
•Wicked Witch of the West, always acting conniving and sending out minions to do his/her dirty work - 5%
•The Mummy, slow-moving and has an ancient thought process - 4%
•Grim Reaper, constantly delivers bad news and inspires fear among workers - 3%
•Frankenstein, green with envy - 1%


In addition to spooky bosses, when asked what the scariest part of their job was, workers reported the following fear-inducing activities:

•Workload - 18%

•Performance reviews - 9%
•Tight deadlines - 9%
•Hours worked - 8%
•Meeting with their boss or supervisor - 7%
•Sitting through meetings - 6%

Nude Sunbathing Leads To Work Absence: Survey

For the record, I never used any of these excuses.

Personnel firm CareerBuilder released this survey on the most unusual reasons employees used to explain an absence:

•I got sunburned at a nude beach and can't wear clothes.
•I woke up in Canada.
•I got caught selling an alligator.
•My buddies locked me in the trunk of an abandoned car after a weekend of drinking.
•My mom said I was not allowed to go to work today.
•A bee flew in my mouth.
•I'm just not into it today.
•I accidentally hit a nun with my motorcycle.
•A random person threw poison ivy in my face and now I have a rash.
•I'm convinced my spouse is having an affair and I'm staying home to catch them.
•I was injured chasing a seagull.
•I have a headache from eating hot peppers.

A poll on embarrassing observations at work from CareerBuilder. Here's the study:


Nobody likes to point out potentially embarrassing situations, but when faced with them in the office, workers are more likely to address them with their peers than with co-workers in higher or lower positions. More than 4,400 workers participated in a nationwide survey from CareerBuilder in which they were asked, given the following embarrassing situations, which of your co-workers you would tell the following:

1. Your zipper is undone

a. Same level co-worker - 67 percent
b. Lower level co-worker - 62 percent
c. Higher level co-worker - 50 percent

2. You have something in your nose

a. Same level co-worker - 51 percent
b. Lower level co-worker - 46 percent
c. Higher level co-worker - 33 percent

3. You have food in your teeth or on your face

a. Same level co-worker - 66 percent
b. Lower level co-worker - 60 percent
c. Higher level co-worker - 49 percent

4. Your hair is messy

a. Same level co-worker - 33 percent
b. Lower level co-worker - 30 percent
c. Higher level co-worker - 13 percent

5. You have a stain on your clothes

a. Same level co-worker - 51 percent
b. Lower level co-worker - 47 percent
c. Higher level co-worker - 34 percent

6. You need a breath mint

a. Same level co-worker - 33 percent
b. Lower level co-worker - 29 percent
c. Higher level co-worker - 14 percent

7. You need a shower
