Yucaipa Activity Guide available

The new City of Yucaipa Community Services Department "Activity Guide" that covers Fall scheduled activities from September through December is now available to pick up at the front desk at the Yucaipa Community Center.

I counted 16 new activities to choose from. Stop by the Community Center at 34900 Oak Glen Road and pick one up. I've said it before, but it's true. This handy little booklet lists dozens of activities for kids and adults that we would otherwise be unaware of.

And the Activity Guide also has the phone numbers and web addresses of such organizations as Little League American and National Divisions, and Junior All American Football - and many more organizations.

You can also access the Community Services information at www.yucaipa.org.

From Billiards to Ballroom for Yucaipa man

Chris and Laurel Hughes teach Ballroom dancing
at the Yucaipa Community Center, Thursday nights.

YUCAIPA - There was that moment standing in the doorway when Chris Hughes was caught between turning and running, or stepping inside. He chose the later and what a difference that one brave little step made.

About four years ago, Hughes was on his way to becoming a professional billiards player. However, the billiards dream got squashed once he stepped inside the open door of an Arthur Murray Dance Studio.

"I was on my way out of a billiards supply store and I saw this dance studio across the way," said Hughes. So he walked over to have a look. The door was open, he peeked inside, and was transfixed as he watched a couple whirl around the ballroom dance floor.

Soon a "pretty girl came over and asked me to dance," he said, adding that she was a dance instructor. "I said no that I was just looking." But fortunately for Hughes she asked him again. This time he accepted. And he was hooked.
