YUCAIPA - The idea that a church or place of worship is as much a home as the places where we put our heads down to sleep at night is probably always in the backs of our minds, but it as brought to the forefront this past weekend for those of us who are members of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini parish in Yucaipa.
On October 18 we moved a couple of hundred yards across our parking lot from our 60-year-old church building into our large, sparkling new church building, designed to serve our parish and the community for decades to come.

YUCAIPA - On Saturday, October 18, the people of St. Frances X.
Cabrini Parish shared memories and gave thanks for a faithful
friend, their old church building.
Before the parish's new church was officially dedicated that afternoon,
a decommissioning Mass was held at 10 a.m. to officially end the existing church building's function as a Catholic house of worship.
The Mass provided moments of joy and nostalgia for those attending,
especially those who have spent their entire lives as members of the parish.

Long awaited new Catholic Church opens its doors with a Dedication Mass
YUCAIPA - Over 3,000 people, some coming from as far away as Las Vegas, attended the Dedication Mass for the new St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church in Yucaipa, Saturday.
The Rev. Gerald R. Barnes, Bishop of the Diocese of San Bernardino presided over the Mass and addressed the congregation by saying, "Let us go forward with memories of our past (of the old church built in 1948 and decommissioned earlier in the day) to the hope for our new future," said Bishop Barnes, of the new church. "I congratulate you for your hard work and your patience."

YUCAIPA - There has been much promotion about the dedication Mass today for St. Frances X. Cabrini's new church at 4 p.m.
But let's not forget that the old church - which served parish families since 1948 - will be decommissioned today. This is an historic moment, and sure to be an emotional one for the generations of Yucaipa families who attended the 60-year old, small, brick church.
The Rev. David Andel will celebrate a Mass to decommission the church at 10 a.m.

By Michael J. Medley
YUCAIPA - One of the most unique traditions of the Catholic Church, held to honor one of its most beloved saints, takes place at St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church in Yucaipa at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 5. The church will hold a Blessing of the Animals ceremony to honor St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast day is October 4 and whose love of animals is the stuff of legend.
