YUCAIPA - On Saturday, April 18th from 3 to 5 p.m., the Writers' Gallery opens its doors to the public for a free lecture presented by author, Betty Odak.
All Odak wanted was to live the American Dream. What she discovered was a financial nightmare, brought on by her own misinformation, poor planning, and lack of foresight.
When Marriage and Family Counselor Betty Odak moved to California from Kenya, she made a lot of financial mistakes--mistakes that could have been easily avoided. After filing for bankruptcy in 2007, Betty decided to share her insights, lessons, and personal victories in her new book:
Before, After & Beyond Bankruptcy (Pleasant Word, 2009).
During this free lecture, Betty will discuss her experience with publishing, hard lessons she's learned, and how you to can fulfill your publishing dream.
Book will be available for purchase after the lecture.

Dear Participants and Supporters,
As I announced earlier in the month, the Writers Gallery has moved. Our new location is 35081 Yucaipa Boulevard. Many of you have already visited the new space. It is a work in progress and I appreciate everyone's patience with the move. In the meantime, we are still meeting as usual.
For a preview of our events and meetings please see our December calendar on the Writers Gallery website www.thewritersgallery.net.
With the move (and the holidays), this will be a rather uneventful month for workshops.
January will be an exciting time.
- Diane Adams, author of several children's books, will be offering a workshop on writing for children, and will provide a ciritique of your manuscript as part of the workshop enrollment. More details will be forthcoming.
- Brenda Hill, local novelist, will be offering a Saturday afternoon workshop on editing your first three chapters to prepare them for agent and editor eyes. If you have a manuscript waiting to be sent out, you must attend this so you are sure to make a great first impression.
- On the horizon, Wayne Hendersen, podcast extraordinaire, has agreed to provide a workshop on podcasting - how to turn your book into an audio book.
As always, I am grateful for all of you, your support and your wonderful writing.
Keep writing and I hope to see you soon.

News Release:
By Diane Mierzwik
The Writers' Gallery
YUCAIPA - With the holidays fast approaching, and no idea what to get those people on your list who have everything, at least everything you can afford, making a personalized gift using your writing talents will provide friends and loved ones with a gift they will cherish forever.
Gifts such as:
- Using poems to celebrate your friendship, and how much this relationship means to you.
- Memorialize a moment you shared with a friend.
- Make a beautiful plaque for that special someone to hang in a special place.
- Using stories that tell of times past.
- Share a bit of yourself with those you love by making books to share with family and friends.
And writing your memories down and combining them with pictures gives a whole new meaning to scrap booking. Instead you create a heirloom to be passed from generation to generation.
Whatever your writing talents, you will leave this workshop with ideas, tools and one finished project to be used as a gift for that special someone.
Making Gifts of Your Writing workshop will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $40 for non-members and $20 for full-time members
