YUCAIPA COMMUNITY PARK - About 1,000 children and adults filled the sloping grassy lawn overlooking the Yucaipa Community Park Amphitheater for the Yucaipa Valley Youth Soccer Organization's closing ceremonies and awards program on Saturday afternoon.

Some kids grew impatient for the ceremony to start and began doing what they do best - kicking soccer balls. Others sat expectantly staring at the gleaming trophies and plaques neatly arranged in long rows on folding tables on stage before them.

"We have here what you have all been waiting for, these shiny things behind me," said YVYSO President, Gareth Bowen.

And with that a loud cheer broke out and the ceremony began. Bowen read off the names of the first and second place teams in their respective divisions. As kids assembled on stage to receive their trophies, parents crowded around snapping pictures, and beseeching their kids to lift their fixed eyes away from their trophies and look up for a picture. Smile and say cheese were the commands of the day for a lot of parents.
