Huntington Beach's adopted Marines need the public's help with "Operation Back to School." The battalion, which deployed right after July 4, will make a stop in the Philippines to engage in training exercises and humanitarian efforts, including building schools.

The Marines have asked for donations including writing tablets and notebooks; writing implements such as pencils, pens, and chalk; backpacks or duffle bags; and soccer or volley balls (deflated). The Foundation is also requesting donations of $10 to help pay for mailing the items.

School supplies can be dropped off at five area locations: HB Digital Arts at 1615 Alabama; Seevid, Inc. at 5445 Oceanus Drive; Surf City Bank at 7755 Center Ave., Suite 100; the Central Library at Talbert and Goldenwest; and City Hall lobby at 2000 Main St. The City Hall location can accept supplies only.

Checks can also be sent directly to the HB 3/1 Marines Foundation at 19744 Beach Blvd., #528, Huntington Beach, CA 92648. The deadline for donations is Aug.15.

For more information on "Operation Back to School," contact the Huntington Beach 3/1 Marines Foundation at 714-375-3131 or e-mail HB4Marines@aol.com.

**** The City Hall boxes are located in the main lobby and in the Lower Lobby. There are also donation envelopes attached to the boxes if you want to mail in a contribution.

Surf City (Huntington Beach) loves its surfing, and it loves to share the good times with everyone.

So, it's sent out a website for its big surfing action.

The Go211 Live includes professional surfing, BMX, skateboarding, freestyle motocross demos, and live music scheduled on the beach by the Pier now  through July 27, with the major days of the event being Thursday through July 27.

Go211 Live is the largest action sports, music, and lifestyle festival in North America. For more information, visit their website at www.usopenofsurfing.com.

Surf City officials are driven to make visitors happy during a trip to the beach.
They've set up a new Parking Information page on Huntington Beach's Web site, with all the details visitors -- residents and tourists alike -- will need  at http:// www.surfcity-hb.org/visitors/parking.
The Web site details beach parking locations, camp parking, downtown parking and event parking. Costs and hours of operation are also listed for parking lots and garages.
