Mauro Jara, 38, of Fontana, who was suspected of organizing the cockfight, was booked on suspicion of felony burglary and misdemeanor animal cruelty, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Hiroshi Yokoyama said. Four other people were given citations for misdemeanor cruelty to animals, the lieutenant said.
According to booking records, Jara is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail and is due for arraignment at West Covina Superior Court Tuesday.
An anonymous tipster called authorities shortly before 9:40 p.m. to report a cockfight beginning inside an unoccupied industrial building in the 21400 block of Ferrero Parkway, Yokoyama said.
Deputies found about 40 people and 44 roosters inside the building, he said. The roughly 35 people who were not cited or arrested were briefly detained and released, Yokoyama said.
Animal control officials took custody of the roosters.
The 24-year-old victim was in the 15000 block of Boyle Avenue in Fontana shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by a woman asking for money. He refused and she stabbed him once in the throat, according to a Fontana police news release.
The man was taken to a local hospital to treat his wound.
The woman was about 4-foot-11 and 100 pounds, according to the victim. She was wearing a red sweatshirt and red pants and left in a white, newer model 4-door vehicle, possibly a Toyota or Honda.

Fontana police said they found a stash of drugs in a car driven by an Alta Loma who led officers on a short chase before being arrested Wednesday night.
A patrol officer tried to pull over Alifeleti Katoa, 41, for making an "illegal turn movement" on his black Dodge Charger but he refused to stop, police said.
"The suspect took off and the pursuit was on," said Sgt. Jeff Decker.
The two-mile chase ended about 8 p.m. at Orange Way and Juniper Avenue after Katoa crashed, he said. Marijuana and methaphetamine were found in his vehicle, Decker said.
Katoa was booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of felony evasion and possession of drugs for sale.
The Fontana boy was at the corner of Orange Way and Rosena Avenue about 7 p.m. when the robbers surrounded him, police said. One pulled out a knife and pointed it at the victim. A second robber ripped the victim's necklace from his neck and took his cell phone.
All four men got into a white four-door car with the license plate number 6WTC488 and drove away.
One of the men is Latino, 25-years-old, 5-feet-7 inches tall and 190 pounds. He has brown eyes and wore a blue "LA" hat, a gray sleeveless shirt, blue shorts and white shoes. The second man is Latino, 22-years-old, 5-feet-5 inches tall and 180 pounds. He is bald and has brown eyes. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Police did not have a description of the other two men.

The robber came to Aaron's Sales and Lease Ownership at 17110 Foothill Blvd. at 3 p.m. and lingered in the store about 15 minutes. He was trying to cut the security cable off a laptop computer when the manager confronted him. The robber threatened to shoot the manager, police said.
The robber pulled the computer loose from the cable and ran from the store. He told the manager he had a gun and would use it.
The manager feared for her life, so she did not stop the man. He jumped in a getaway vehicle parked in a nearby apartment complex.
Police said the man is Latino, in his 20s, 5-feet-5 inches tall and 150 pounds. He has brown hair and wore a black baseball cap, a blue long-sleeve shirt with white writing on the chest and arms, gray Dickies shorts, black shoes and white socks. He fled in a blue 1996 GMC truck.

The victim was riding a skateboard on the sidewalk along Foothill Boulevard, west of Juniper Avenue, when a man blocked his path.
He asked the victim where he was from and began punching him in the face, police said. The boy fell to the ground and the man took his skateboard.
Police said the man is 5-feet-9 inches tall, 180 pounds and has black hair. He wore white and black plaid shorts and a gray T-shirt.

Shamica Rojas, 28, of Fontana was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to booking records.
Fontana police said Rojas became upset with the victim in the 8900 block of Date Street. She confronted the victim and stabbed her in the arm. Police came to the scene about 10:30 p.m. and caught Rojas while she was trying to leave the scene in a vehicle.

A father scared off three men when they tried to attack his 12-year-old as he opened the family's front door.
The boy answered his front door about 2 p.m. Monday and three men forced their way inside the home in the 14700 block of Cinnamon Drive in Fontana, according to a Fontana police news release.
One of the men took out a handgun and tried to grab the boy by his neck. Wendell Hill, the boy's 36-year-old father, came downstairs and scared off the men.
The attackers ran from the home and got into a white Sports Utility Vehicle that was parked across the street that drove westbound from the area.
There were no injuries and no property was taken, according to the news release. The victims said they did not know the men.

Fontana police on Tuesday said they arrested a 22-year-old parolee responsible for a rash of home burglaries in the Village of Heritage area over the weekend.
Raul Salazar, whose Rancho Cucamonga home is adjacent to the Fontana housing tract where the burglaries occurred, was booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and a parole violation.
Salazar is believed to have stolen two vehicles and other items from homes where their residents were sleeping. Some of the stolen items were found in Salazar's bedroom, police said.
Fontana police received a call from the California Highway Patrol around 1 a.m. about the shooting. Officers found one may lying on the ground near the corner of Duncan Canyon and Lytle Creek roads. The area is right off the 15 Freeway on the north end of the city.
Another man, who received a gunshot wound to his buttocks, began knocking on doors asking for help, said Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker.
Police said the shooting stemmed from a dispute in the Los Angeles area. Both men were expected to survive.

Police received a call about the burglary at 11667 Cherry Avenue about 1 a.m., said Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker.
The thief took numerous items including the video games, Decker said.
