The Rialto Historical Society will feature two members of the Police Department's K-9 team at its monthly luncheon Saturday.

Officer Glen Anderson and K-9 Gilley will be in the basement of the old church at 201 N. Riverside Ave.

The lunch, which costs $5, is at noon, and the program with Anderson and Gilley will be at 1 p.m.

The Rialto Police Department will hold another area-command meeting Jan. 27 for residents who live in the city's east end.

The 7 p.m. meeting at Boyd Elementary School will be for residents who live south of Baseline and east of Willow Avenue to discuss their concerns about their community.
Boyd is located at 310 E. Merrill Ave.

The area commander for that portion of the city is Lt. Randy DeAnda, who can be reached at (909) 820-2647. 
The lawyer for a man charged with the deadly shooting of a Rialto SWAT officer is challenging a judge's holding order.

George Wright, who represents Kris Antonio Wiggins, filed a motion to challenge a May 29 ruling from Judge Ingrid Uhler to hold over Wiggins for trial.

Wiggins, 33, appeared briefly Friday in Fontana Superior Court.
The Rialto Police Department will be holding its quarterly community meetings next week.

The meetings give members of the community an opportunity to talk with high-ranking police officials and officials from other city departments to share their concerns.

All meetings are at 7 p.m. There will be three meetings, one for each geographical area of the city.

The first meeting will be Monday at Preston Elementary at 1750 N. Willow Avenue. The meeting will cover the portion of the city north of Baseline.

The second meeting will be Tuesday at Curtis Elementary at 451 s. Lilac Ave. The meeting will cover the portion of the city west of Willow and south of Baseline.

The third meeting will be Thursday at Boyd Elementary at 310 E. Merrill Avenue. The meeting will cover the portion of the city east of willow and south of Baseline, all the way to the city's southern border.
Each remembered the fallen officer in their own way, but they came together today for a few precious moments to collectively honor the hero in their hearts.

Less than two days before the anniversary of Officer Sergio Carrera Jr.'s death, city leaders, friends and family members gathered in the Police Department's lobby.

Police Chief Mark Kling told stories of Carrera's well-known wit. Cpl. Robert Smith, president of the Rialto Police Benefit Association, announced that they would retire Carrera's locker.
