Eight people were arrested on suspicion of fraudulently receiving government subsidized housing benefits in Chino.

Chino Police officers and the HUD Office of the Inspector General, Parole and Probation performed a Housing and Urban Development fraud operation Thursday to identify individuals who are participating in the fraud, according to a Chino news release. 

Police officers conducted the Operation HUD Fraud at 5819 Riverside Drive, a location that has increasingly worsened in crime and quality of life issues, according to the news release.

Six of the 40 apartments were contacted by police officers, who made eight arrests for various charges including fraud, perjury, outstanding warrants and identity theft.
 
To be eligible for the aid, tenants have to sign lease agreements that state, under penalty of perjury, that they will not participate in any criminal activity, become a nuisance to the community or allow unauthorized tenants to reside within the household, according to the news release.  Tenants getting the aid cannot have felony convictions for violence or be involved in drug related activities either.

A traffic safety checkpoint in Fontana resulted in seven arrests over the weekend.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and four arrests were made for other alleged violations like outstanding warrants, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and possession of drugs, according to a Fontana police news release.

About 2,420 vehicles passed through the checkpoint that took place from 6 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday on Citrus Avenue between Randall and San Bernardino Avenues, according to the news release. More than 180 vehicles were stopped, 76 were impounded and 94 received citations for various traffic violations.

This checkpoint was funded by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A compliance check conducted by several agencies of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department resulted in 15 different arrests for various charges.

Sheriff's deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga, Highland, Victorville, Central, Chino Hills, Twin Peaks and Morongo Basin stations conducted the "Crime Free-Compliance Check Operation" throughout the city Friday, according to a news release.

Employees from the Public Affairs Division and the State Parole and County Probation participated as well.

Sheriff's deputies conducted more than 50 searches on people either on parole or probation and made several felony arrest warrants, according to the news release.

Those arrested was booked into West Valley Detention Center.

More than 100 apartments, condominiums, town homes and mobile home communities throughout the city were searched during the operation, according to the news release.

A drunken driving and driver's license checkpoint Saturday night resulted in seven drivers arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Seventy three other drivers were issued citations for various driving offenses, one person was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, one person was arrested for possession of controlled substances and one person was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's Department news release.

A total of 735 vehicles passed through the checkpoint from 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday at Hamner Avenue and First Street, according to a news release.

On average, it took drivers less than two minutes to proceed through the checkpoint, sheriff's deputies said.

Twelve drivers were arrested during a DUI Saturation Patrol in Fontana in December.

About 140 vehicles were stopped and 42 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted between Dec. 13 and 31, according to a Fontana Police news release.

Officers assigned during the patrol also impounded 11 vehicles and issued 24 citations, police said. One additional arrest was made for a DUI warrant.

The program was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, according to the news release.

Eight drivers were arrested during Norco's DUI checkpoint this past weekend.

In all, 912 vehicles entered the checkpoint and 589 drivers were screened from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday on Hamner Avenue and School Street, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's Department news release.

Forty two drivers were issued citations and 20 vehicles were stored during the operation, according to the news release. 

The checkpoint funded through a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the news release.

The California Highway Patrol released the first official report for Thanksgiving Holiday statistics concerning the state and the Los Angeles County.

From 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, five traffic deaths were reported statewide, compared  to the eight people who were killed in California last year, according to a CHP news release.

This year Los Angeles County had no reports of traffic deaths. Last year, there was one traffic death in the county.

Also in those 12 hours, CHP arrested 237 people on suspicion of drunken drivers throughout the state, compared to 318 last year, according to the news release.

There were 49 alleged DUI arrests in Los Angeles County this year, which dropped considerably from last year. In 2007, CHP made 80 alleged DUI arrests in the county.

Hundreds of vehicles were screened and four people arrested during a DUI /driver's license checkpoint Friday night and early Saturday morning.

The checkpoint began at 8 p.m. at River Road and Bluff Street in Norco and ended at 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's news release.

Deputies screened a total of 589 vehicles and gave 13 motorists field sobriety tests. Four of those motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

There were also 28 citations issued and five other motorists were arrested for outstanding misdemeanor warrants, according to the news release.

One person was arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled substances.

Additionally 24 vehicles were stored, 16 of which were impounded for 30 days.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It was conducted by the Norco office of the sheriff's department and the Norco Citizen's Patrol.

An area-wide operation involving seven law enforcement agencies resulted in 30 arrests, officials said.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department hosted a saturation patrol Friday in Chino Hills and the surrounding areas. About 70 deputies and officers from the sheriff's department,  Chino, Fontana, Montclair, Colton, and Ontario Police Departments, and California Highway Patrol  participated in the operation, according to a sheriff's news release.

About 100 arrest warrants were served during the first phase of the operation in Chino Hills. The second phase allowed deputies and officers to find wanted suspects and stop in-progress criminal activity, deputies said.

During the operation, officers were involved in a 22-mile pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the unincorporated area of Montclair.

The chase ended when the vehicle became inoperable and stopped on the 60 Freeway west of the 57 Freeway, deputies said.

Ramon Navarro and Charmaine Yamas were taken into custody.

The operation, titled S.M.A.S.H., stands for the San Bernardino County Movement Against Street Hoodlums.

Three people were arrested Saturday during a parole and probation compliance check conducted by Riverside County Sheriff's Department Jurupa Valley Station community action team.

 

During the operation, which was conducted in Eastvale, Mira Loma, and Pedley, officials arrested Cynthia Hyenhuis, 47, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence.

 

They also arrested Jacqueline Abbott, 39, on an outstanding parole warrant and Joseph Ramirez, 48, on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia, and vehicle theft, according to a sheriff's news release.
