An Upland woman accused of murdering her husband with a sword last year re-entered not guilty pleas in West Valley Superior Court this morning to three felony charges.
Prosecutors say Naomi Valdivia, 34, murdered her husband, 34-year-old Jose Luis Gonzalez, on April 26, 2008 following an argument between the couple at their apartment in the 800 block of West Orchid Court.
Valdivia, a mother of five, claims her husband came at her first with the sword, and she acted in self-defense during the struggle, according to Valdivia's family members.

During a one-month period beginning in February, there were two burglaries in Yucca
Valley, one in Morongo Valley and on in Twentynine Palms in which about $100,000
worth of property was taken, according to a sheriff's news release.
The break-ins - three of which employed the rooftop-entrance strategy - all took place
during the day, when no one was home.
The suspects would climb up to the roof using a ladder, punch a hole in the roof with a drill and then saw out a larger hole, said Sgt. James Porter.
U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton in Sacramento says a federal injunction that had been agreed to by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration trump<NO1>ZZTO<NO>s the section of Proposition 9 that limits legal rights for parole violators.
The administration agreed in 2004 to provide at taxpayers' expense, lawyers for ex-convicts who risk being sent back to prison for violating parole.
Karlton on Thursday rejected the argument that voters' approval of the ballot measure nullifies the administration's settlement of the class-action suit. Schwarzenegger lawyers have said they are required by state law to appeal Karlton's decision.
On Jan. 12, a customer stole a $16,650 ring from the Kevin Jewelers at the Mall of Victor Valley, according to a sheriff's news release. Investigators viewed surveillance but had to suspend the case because they didn't know who the man was, and they had exhausted all their leads, according to the release.
Then on Sunday, Detective Robert Vaccari, who was off duty at an Apple Valley gas station, saw a man who looked like the one in the video. Deputies pulled over Alan Ayers, 48, and found the ring where he was living in Apple Valley. His permanent residence is in Colorado.
Vaccari said the high quality of the surveillance video was helpful.
"I made the identification really easy when I saw him," he said.
Ayers has not been arrested, but his case was forwarded to the District Attorney.
Mayor Pat Morris' office announced today that the city has been awarded a $400,000 state grant for anti-gang programs.
The money is set to be disbursed under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's program called Califronia Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention initiative.
The city's announcement reports that the grant will be funneled to Catholic Charities and Urban Youth Conservation Corps, which are slated to use the funds in cooperation with the city's Operation Phoenix program.
Catholic Charities is expected to use its portion of the funding in an attempt to reduce recidivism among 50 18- to 25-year old youths with gang ties.
Urban Youth Conservation Corps is set to use the grant to assist 20 "at risk" young people aged 12 to 17 in a program that includes training in forestry management and tree care in the San Bernardino National Forest and San Bernardino city parks.

Police say Perry Don Hill stabbed Lee Calhoun around 3 p.m. at Spruce and G streets following an argument. Calhoun took himself to Community Hospital, where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
Witnesses helped identify Hill through a photo lineup, said Lt. Brian Koerner.
Hill was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon and booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. He was being held on $1 million bail.
The 18-year-old, unidentified Redlands man was stabbed around 8 p.m. at a home in the 800 block of Oxford Drive, according to a Redlands news release.
The man took himself to the hospital and was is in stable condition.
Police arrested Thomas Cose, 19, of Mentone, and David Diaz, 18, of Redlands. Police found Cose at his Mentone home and Diaz at another Mentone home.
Police say the two men got in a fight with the victim before stabbing him and fleeing.
They were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and a gang enhancement.

The recommendation was revealed in a footnote to a government motion opposing Carona's bid for acquittal or a new trial. The document says the probation department made its recommendation on Friday. The full report is under seal.
Carona's attorney, Jeff Rawitz, had no comment.
The man arrived at the hospital at 2:48 p.m. with nonlife-threatening injuries, said San Bernardino Sgt. Rick Lindsey.
Lindsey said he had no information about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton plans to travel to Mexico on Wednesday for the start of several weeks of high-level meetings between the two countries on the drug violence issue. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Attorney General Eric Holder are expected to meet with Mexican officials in early April.
Violent turf battles among the cartels have wreaked havoc in Mexico in recent years and led to a spate of kidnappings and home invasions in some U.S. cities.
Around 11:30 p.m. Monday, deputies stopped John Edmond Smith, 64, at Round Up Way and Central Road because of a number of vehicle violations, according to a sheriff's news release.
Deputies checked Smith's criminal records and learned he is a sex offender who had been living in Southern California and Indiana without registered his residence with authorities. He had been living in the 23000 block of Esaws Road in Apple Valley most recently.
He was booked at Victor Valley Jail in Voctorville on suspicion of failing to register and held on $25,000 bail.
Officer Francisco Santiago, 46, was arrested at his Rancho Cucamonga home March 17, around 5 p.m., and booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, according to jail records.
Santiago was charged March 19 with a misdemeanor count of corporal injury to a spouse.
Deputy District Attorney Ted Smith, who reviewed the case, would not discuss details of the case. He said when deciding whether to charge Santiago with a felony or misdemeanor, he would have taken into consideration the circumstances of how the injury took place and the extent of the injury.
Los Angeles World Airports Sgt. Jim Holcomb would not say whether Santiago was still working as a police officer or how long he has worked there.
"We just prefer to just let them do their investigation," he said of he local agencies.
The men, 63-year-old John Romero and 45-year-old John J. Romero, were previously president and treasurer, respectively, of the Amalgamated Industrial Workers Union.
They were indicted by a grand jury Thursday and arrested Friday. According to a U.S. Attorney's news release, a 2003 financial report that must be signed by the president and treasurer under penalty of perjury, did not include more than $98,000 in five bank accounts. They didn't disclose payments from those funds to the two men and to John Romero's daughter.
The men face a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
At 2:05 a.m., deputies learned the Bingo Barn's hold-up alarm had gone off. When they arrived, they learned that one of the men had a rifle or a shotgun and ordered everyone to the floor while the other man used a hammer to take the cash register, according to a sheriff's news release.
The men were completely covered, and the victims weren't able to get good descriptions.
The Bingo Barn, at 11986 Bartlett Ave., can hold up to 690 people and is open until 3 a.m. during the week and 3:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

At 5:30 p.m., police received a report of shots fired at 2011 N. Arden Ave., which is an apartment complex, said Lt. Gwendolyn Waters.
Police found a Suburban with two bullet holes. Witnesses identified two people inside as being shooters. A building nearby and another car were also hit.
The two people in the Suburban identified as shooters were arrested on suspicion of shooting at an occupied building. Another person inside was arrested on warrants, and a fourth person was not arrested.
Police do not have information about the other people involved in the shooting.
At 6:30 p.m., police tried to stop a man near a Baker's at 265 N. Waterman Avenue, said Lt. Gwendolyn Waters. The man wouldn't stop and soon crashed into a telephone poll a few minutes later on Fairfax Lane and Sixth Street.
The man tried to flee from police but was arrested for a parole violation and on suspicion of fleeing police.
Around 1:45 p.m., a small, beige crossover that may be a new-model Dodge Caliber drove up to a Buick exiting the freeway. A passenger in the crossover fired at the Buick a number of times, narrowly missing two young children, according to a San Bernardino police news release.
Omar Suarez, 34, of San Bernardino, was hit. He was in critical but stable condition after the shooting. His wife, Angilica Suarez, 33, of San Bernardino, was also hit, but only suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital.
The suspect is only described as a man between 20 and 25 years old.
Police say they are not sure what led to the shooting.
Sheriff's officials say Stewart McMurray, 59, shot Tamra Alba-McMurray, 46, that morning at their house in the 2600 block of Shadow Mountain Road, according to a sheriff's news release.
The fire was reported to fire officials around 1:30 p.m. March 9. The house and an out building were destroyed.
In count six, prosecutors accuse Erwin, 46, of failing "to disclose receipt of prostitution and masseuse services on or about January 30, 2007 on Fair Political Practice Commission Statement of Economic Interest form 700."
