A rookie pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim who died early Thursday following a traffic collision played with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2006.

Nick Adenhart, 22, pitched 5-2 with a 3.78 ERA for the Quakes in 2006.

Adenhart died after undergoing surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center, hospital spokesman John Murray said.

He was one of three people killed in the crash.

Courtney Stewart, 20, of Diamond Bar was with Adenhart when they left a nightclub in the area, police said.

Officials with Cal State Fullerton, where Stewart reportedly went to school, were still working to confirm she was the woman killed in the accident.

Adenhart had pitched six scoreless innings for the Angels against Oakland Wednesday night in Anaheim. The Angels lost 6-4.

Shortly after midnight, the driver of a minivan ran a red light in Fullerton and hit two cars, including one carrying Adenhart.

Fullerton police Lt. Craig Brower said the minivan driver fled the crash scene and was captured a short time later. The driver was arrested and booked for investigation of felony hit-and-run.

Adenhart was the Angels' No. 3 starter and made his season debut Wednesday night.

He was born in Silver Springs, Md.

One man was flown to a local hospital after a major traffic collision on Arrow Route in Rancho Cucamonga.

Greg Contreras was driving his 1961 Volkswagon Pickup west on Arrow toward Malachite Avenue Thursday as a 2001 Dodge Durango driven by Lawrence Conner was going east on the same street, according to an San Bernardino County Sheriff's news release.

As Contreras got closer, Conner tried to make a left turn onto Malachite and turned into the path of the Volkswagon, according to the news release. The two vehicles collided in the intersection and Contreras had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department.

He was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition, according to the news release. Conner was taken to the San Antonio Community Hospital where he was evaluated and later released.

Montclair police officers have re-opened lanes on the westbound 10 Freeway and the Monte Vista Avenue on-ramp.

The freeway and on-ramp were blocked about 10:40 a.m. when a tractor trailer overturned after colliding with a Honda Accord. The big rig also leaked fuel onto the slow lanes, which took time to clean up.

Officials are hoping to have all lanes of the westbound 10 Freeway at Monte Vista Avenue re-opened by 2 p.m., after a tractor trailer collided with a Honda Accord, according to the California Highway Patrol incident Web site.

The overturned truck blocked all lanes and put a hitch in traffic, with reports of eastbound vehicles backed up to Dudley Avenue in Pomona and westbound vehicles backed up to the 15 Freeway in Ontario.

The male driver of the tractor trailer was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with complaints of neck and back pain. Two females in the Honda received minor injuries, officials said.

All lanes of the 60 Freeway in Pomona have been shut down to land a helicopter and transport a driver who was injured during a traffic collision, California Highway Patrol dispatchers said.

The freeway will be shut down in both directions just west of Phillips Ranch Road for a few minutes as paramedics transport the driver of a motorcycle to a local hospital.

Dispatchers did not have any more information on the collision, which was reported about 10:45 a.m., or parties involved.

Riverside County firefighters had to extricate a trapped passenger after a single-vehicle traffic collision in Jurupa.

The collision, which involved an overturned vehicle, happened about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday near the 15 Freeway south of Bellegrave Avenue, according to a fire department news release.

The passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment, firefighters said.

Six people, including three children, were involved in a major traffic collision Monday at Edison and Oaks avenues in Chino.

After investigating the incident, Chino police believe  David Deseran, 23, of Chino, was driving westbound on Edison in a white 2004 Toyota Tacoma, Chino spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden said. As he approached Oaks, he tried to merge into the left turn lane and was rear ended by a black 2003 Lincoln Navigator, driven by Robert Saucedo, 32, of Chino.

The impact caused the Toyota to spin out of control, flip into air and land in the center lane of Edison, Van Der Linden said.

At the same time, a blue 2008 Chevy Silverado, driven by Justin Longe, 41, of Chino, collided with the Toyota. 

Deseran had head trauma from the collision and was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition, Van Der Linden said.

Ryan Harris, 22 and Mike Hernandez, 26, from Chino, were in Deseran's truck during the collision. Harris also had head trauma and was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Hernandez had a fractured left leg and was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.

Saucedo was not injured.

Longe had cuts on his head and left leg and was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.

The passengers in Longe's truck were 9, 10 and 12 years old.  The 9-year-old, who suffered from stomach pain, and the 12-year-old, who had a fractured left elbow, were taken to Arrowhead Regional  Medical Center in stable condition, Van Der Linden said.

The 10-year-old did not have any injuries but was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for precautionary reasons, Van Der Linden said. The child was examined and released to a parent.

Seven people were injured Monday during a major traffic collision in Chino.

Two people received critical injuries - one was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and the other was driven to Loma Linda University Medical Center, Chino Valley Fire Distric spokeswoman Massiel Ladron De Guevara said. Five people with moderate injuries were taken to local hospitals.

Firefighters were dispatched about 6:45 p.m. to Edison and Oaks avenues for a 3-vehicle collision that required extrication, Ladron De Guevara said.

A traffic collision between two vehicles caused some hazardous materials to spill into the bed of a truck Wednesday in Chino Hills.

Chino Valley Independent Firefirefighters quickly cleaned up the materials and attended to the passengers of the collision, said Massiel Ladron De Guevara, public information officer for the Fire District.


About 10:30 a.m. a pickup truck carrying swimming poll cleaning substances near Grand Avenue and  Madrugada Drive collided with another vehicle. Less than 10 pounds of the substance, which included chlorine tablets, diamatacious earth, an algaecide and gasoline, spilled in the bed of the truck, Ladron De Guevara said.

Firefighters tested the material with hazmat equipment and cleared the incident.

One passenger in the second vehicle was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries, Ladron De Guevara said.

One person died this morning after a Riverside County fire engine and a pick-up truck collided at  Etiwanda Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard in Mira Loma.

The fire engine was en route to another traffic collision up the street when the accident happened about 5:05 a.m., Captain Fernando Herrera said. 

The driver of the pick up truck, whose name has not been released, died. Two firefighters were extricated from the engine and transported to local hospitals with moderate injuries.

One firefighter had a head injury and another complained of abdominal and chest pain, but both are in stable condition, Herrera said.

The cause of the collision is unknown and the California Highway Patrol is investigating.

CHP officers closed both directions of Van Buren Boulevard as well as the off-ramp at the eastbound 60 Freeway.  Traffic on the near-by freeway is moving slowly.

"The 60 Freeway has some slowing down because people are looking at the commotion," Herrera said.

Frank Kwangsu Kim, 49, of Lake Elsinore was killed Tuesday morning after he hit the center divider on the 91 Freeway just south of Chino Hills, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner Web site.

Kim had major neck injuries when paramedics arrived at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol. He died shortly before 5 a.m. at Corona Regional Medical Center.

Kim was driving a Nissan Sentra on the eastbound 91 east of Green River Road when the vehicle was struck by debris, the sheriff's coroner said. Kim's vehicle hit the center divider and overturned about 4:05 a.m.

The crash closed three left lanes. The freeway was reopened at 5:43 a.m.

A Sig Alert has been issued for the eastbound 210 Freeway at Day Creek Boulevard due to a traffic collision involving a motorcycle.

Law Enforcement officials are attempting to land a helicopter to airlift the driver of the motorcycle, said an Ontario Fire Department dispatcher. Lanes of the freeway will need to be shut down for a short amount of time to remove the driver.

A traffic collision in Glen Avon killed one person and injured two others Tuesday.

About 13 firefighters from the West Riverside Battalion arrived on scene about 4:30 p.m. to aid with a two vehicle-traffic collision at Jurupa Road, about 400 feet from Camino Real, that had trapped some of the passengers, according to a Riverside County Fire Department news release.

Firefighters had to cut through the vehicles to rescue people and the local water company was called to take care of a sheared fire hydrant, according to the news release.

The injured parties were transported to local hospitals.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner has identified the woman who died as a 39-year-old Riverside resident, but is waiting to release her name, pending notification of her family.

She died about 5 p.m., according to the coroner's Web site.

The driver of a sedan was rear-ended and lost control, according to the coroner's Web site and was ejected.

One lane of the eastbound 210 Freeway in Highland at Fifth Street is blocked because of a noninjury crash. The two vehicles involved in the crash were moved to the center divider.
One person was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton after a traffic collision in Apple Valley tonight.

The 7:33 p.m. crash took place at Highway 18 and Rancherias Road, said a Desert Communications Center dispatcher.
Two people were injured in a head-on traffic collision at 11th Street and Cedar Avenue in the Crestmore area around 7:30 p.m.

One person had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, said a county Fire Department dispatch supervisor.

He did not know the condition of the other patient.
Deputies arrested a Fontana man Saturday after they believe he was involved in a hit and run, a serious traffic collision and had 90 grams of marijuana in his car in Adelanto.

At 9:35 p.m. Saturday, deputies when to the scene of a two-car crash at Highway 395 and Bartlett Avenue.

They found that one car had been hit and the other, belonging to 26-year-old Dajuan Kendall of Fontana, hit a traffic light pole, according to a sheriff's news release. Kendall had to be extricated from the car and was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Deputies found Kendall to be at fault for the crash and learned he was involved at the hit and run shortly before at Bartlett Avenue Bellflower Street.

Deputies also found a bag with the marijuana in Kendall's car, according to the release.

They conducted toxicology and other laboratory tests and were waiting for the results.
A multi-vehicle crash near Newberry Springs killed three people this morning and sent four more to the hospital.

The 9 a.m. crash was on the eastbound 40 Freeway and caused a Sig Alert for hours after the crash.

In addition to the three people who died, two were flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton and two more with moderate injuries were driven to Barstow Community Hospital, said county fire dispatch supervisor Tom Barnes.

Crews were already on the way to an earlier crash on the 40 in Ludlow but stopped when they got to the one near Newberry Springs, Barnes said. He said they were unable to find the other crash Ludlow.
A fatal crash on the 40 Freeway near Newberry Springs has caused a Sig Alert. The eastbound side of the freeway is completely shut down. The westbound side is now open.
A two-vehicle crash at Mt. Vernon Avenue and Valley Boulevard in Colton at 8:48 a.m. has sent five people to the hospital.

County Fire Department dispatchers did not know their condition of the patients or what caused the crash.

Part of Mt. Vernon is shut down in the area.
