Ontario has joined a list of cities in the state that have passed a resolution acknowledging that the city will be in severe fiscal hardship if the state takes away property taxes.

Ontario's resolution comes at a time when the city has already had to cut $8 million in programs, projects and the elimination of 57 positions.

The League of California Cities has put together the resolution and has more than 200 cities who are opposed to the idea oftaking taxes, said Eva Spiegel, spokeswomen for the League.

The association launched the Web site saveyourcity.net, which gives local officials and citizens the chance to voice their opposition, she said.

Here is the 48 second clip recorded by Ontario City Manager Greg Devereaux:

A San Bernardino County Superior Court judge has ruled in favor of the City, stating the environmental analysis done for the Wal-Mart supercenter is sufficient and adequately outlines any health threats posed to residents.
Superior Court Judge Donald Alvarez, however, has ordered the city to conduct a new supplemental environment report on one issued raised: the project's traffic safety impacts at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Fifth Street.
The site - which was once was home to a Target, Food 4 Less and Toys "R" Us - has been under contention by residents in the Ontario Mountain Village Association who are opposed to the city's decision to allow the discount store to come to the city.
"We have, by and large prevailed across the board in the Wal-Mart Case," said John Brown, city's attorney.

In early February, Matt Shirley, the College/Youth Pastor at Echos of Faith (E.O.F.) World Outreach Center in Ontario was meeting with local parishioners when he came up with the "Bigger than me" campaign.
The campaign is to raise funds for a children's Orphanage in Moshi, Tanzania called "Treasures of Africa Children's Home."
It came about when one of the parishioners who is a registered nurse at the orphanage explained to Shirley the needs of funds there.
"It was on our hearts to do something," Shirley said. "Also we really want to raise global awareness for our youth."
Drawing on his graphic design experience, Shirley designed t-shirts that could be sold to raise funds.
In an effort to draw awareness to the shirts, Shirley will be wearing the shirt this Memorial Day when he runs in he Los Angeles Marathon.
The goal is to raise $3,500 for the orphanage. The funds will assist in rent, electricity and water, he said.
"We're definitely not in the situation," Shirley said. "This reminds them that there are still people who work for a dollar a day."
Tonight, Shirley will host "Invasion Tour." The 7 p.m. event brings in ministers that focus on global issues.
Echos of Faith is located at 11255 Central Avenue in Ontario.
If you want to purchase a t-shirt or get involved you can contact Matt Shirley: 909 627 0927 ext. 279 or via e-mail, mshirley@go2eof.com

I got a call from a very excited Jim Zitterkopf, from the Salvation Army in Ontario today. Turns out, Zitterkopf is helping organize Ontario Reign/Salvation Army day at Citizens Business Bank Arena Nov. 14.
With the help of members of the Ontario Parkway Kiwanis officials with the Salvation Army will be kicking off their red kettle "bell ringing" campaign
Members of the Colony High School and Ontario High School  Key Club will help sell programs for the Reign game as part of the fundraiser for the organization.
"The Reign have been glorious," he said. "This is such a big event for the army."
As part of the day the Salvation Army is sponsoring 250 disadvantaged kids in the community to watch the game, he said. Zitterkopf said they were able to sponsor so many kids and their family because the Reign offered them the tickets at a discounted price.
Money raised from that night will go back to the local community to fund community outreach programs the Salvation Army puts on, Zitterkopf said.
As part of their community outreach programs, Salvation Army prepared 225 meals a day, they also hand out 1,200 prepackaged food a week, he said.
With the woes in the economy, Zitterkopf said they have seen a downturn in gift giving and despite that organization "they are on a shoestring budget and yet here they are giving back."
If you are interested in donating to the Salvation Army contact Naomi or Malena at (909) 986-6748.

Here is some background information about the campaign:

From its original beginnings as a fundraiser started by a Salvation Army captain in San Francisco in 1891, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States. As part of the campaign, more than 25,000 Salvation Army volunteers spread throughout the country to ring bells daily and solicit spare change donations to the iconic red kettles from holiday shoppers. In 2007, the campaign raised more than $118 million nationwide, a new record supported by the public's nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars (and the occasional diamond ring or gold tooth) all collected and used to help people in the communities where they were raised. Last year, the funds helped The Salvation Army provide food, clothing, toys and other assistance to nearly 29 million Americans in need. In addition to physical kettles, donors can also contribute online at www.salvationarmyusa.org or through a virtual red kettle on any number of corporate or individual websites and Facebook pages.
