Laura Richardson gets her tweet on

|
Looks like Rep. Laura Richardson is embracing social media. Her new Twitter handle, effective yesterday, is CLRintheHouse.

Her first few posts came from the floor debate on health care, and so far it looks like she's willing to throw some partisan elbows:

Even they (the Republicans) aren't buying it or interested. They are looking around and they are bored. They realize it is over!
Some, though, you had to be watching C-SPAN to understand:

Re: Dingle; factual and embarrassing to other side of aisle said, "it's just not a substitute." Stands weak frame, not from age, but fight.
Looks like she's still getting her feet wet. No hash tags or bit.ly links just yet. For that, we turn to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, who has been on Twitter for some time and is a full-fledged TCOT (Top Conservative on Twitter). What was he tweeting yesterday?

Dems are not giving us the right to a real debate on #healthcare for #illegals. Obamacare=Illegalcare #killbill #illegalcare #tcot

#Obamacare means more for #illegals, less for our #seniors. #illegalcare #killbill #tcot

#Obamacare cuts Medicare by 100s of Billions of $ & spends Billions of $ 2 provide #healthcare for #illegals. #killbill #tcot

The #Obamacare powergrab will take billions from our seniors & subsidize #illegals, but worse it will destroy our freedom. #killbill

When the Berlin Wall came down 20 years ago, we made the mistake thinking that socialism was defeated. #hcr #tcot
Richardson is going to have to step it up if she wants to keep pace with Long Beach's other congressman.
Readers, here's what's happening out there today:

Today is your last chance for a while to stare down the intimidating dune at Manhattan Beach's Sand Dune Park. The city will close the facility for at least two weeks beginning tomorrow because of excessive use and rude behavior by park visitors.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy shot a parolee in Carson seven times this weekend, and residents are angry.

The city of Hawthorne will pony up $340,000 to settle a claim that police use excessive force on a suspect nearly two years ago. The claimant alleges officers fractured his neck, hog-tied and beat him.

The city of Palos Verdes Estates was within its rights to force a Halloween-happy resident to remove elaborate holiday decorations that spilled onto public right of way, a judge has ruled.

South Bay, let's get this news party started:

Redondo Beach police Tuesday night raided a Torrance home apparently chockablock with several thousand tons of illegal fireworks.

Speaking of which, why don't you check out our list of safe and legal ways South Bay cities are celebrating the Fourth of July this weekend?

A 24-year-old man fell to his death Tuesday night off Point Fermin cliffs in San Pedro.

An 88-year-old Westchester man this week will retire from Northrop Grumman after working their 68 years. How's that for follow-through? Check out pictures of Jerry Huben's rocking retirement party.

Los Angeles-area tourist attractions are seeing more local patronage now that residents are sticking closer to home during the recession. (Do I get extra points for not using the term "staycation?")

The financially troubled state today stops reimbursing medical clinics that offer services like dental, optometry and acupuncture to low-income patients. Also, no new children will be enrolled into the Healthy Familes program after July 17.

That gentleman who tried to trade a lost dog for sex this weekend now faces extortion charges. Seems like a whole lot of trouble for a date.

You know, after I post this blog, I'll Tweet it as well over. Check out this list to find other Breeze staffers and South Bay folks to follow on Twitter.

dwight_schrute_396x222.jpgRainn Wilson, the actor best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on NBC's The Office, tweeted this afternoon: "I am in Lawndale, CA and believe me when I say there are no lawns here."

Do any of you readers have any guesses about what brought Wilson to the so-called
Heart of the South Bay? Yeah, me neither.

Dana Rohrabacher's Twitter feed

160px-DanaRohrabacher.jpgDana Rohrabacher is now staying in touch with his constituents via Twitter. Here are some recent tweets:

What America needs now is a miracle and Easter reminds us that miracles are indeed possible.

Going surfing.

Had lunch with President & PM of Kosovo; we can be proud that we stood with the Kosovars in their quest 4 freedom & self determination.
Meanwhile, Rohrabacher is going after the Department of Homeland Security for warning law enforcement authorities about the risks of "rightwing extremism." In an article in the Washington Times, Rohrabacher calls it a bid "to vilify mainstream conservatism":

"The last time a liberal left administration tried to increase public apprehension about alleged right-wing extremism, they ended up with tragedies like Waco while ignoring the increasing presence of radical Islamic terrorists on American soil that ended up with 9/11," he said

He also has a social networking site.
Shall we, readers?

Passover begins tonight at sunset.

Here's some good-ish news for you: Deaths from heart surgeries at local hospitals ranked about average, according to an annual state report released this week.

Looks like a familiar face is coming to the Port of Los Angeles: former state Assemblyman Wally Knox is set to be the port's new general manager.

Torrance police are embracing technology -- and a $5,000 reward -- to help find the culprits behind a rash of BB gun-smashed windows. The department is using Twitter to spread the word for information about the crimes as @TorrancePD.

We have some pictures of the aftermath of a fire that evacuated the Manhattan Beach Marriott Hotel early Tuesday morning here.

Get a head start on South Bay high schools' boy's track and field season.

Here's what's happening out there today:

Carson has a crime hat trick Wednesday: An officer-involved shooting in which no one was injured, a man found dead from blunt-forced trauma, and another guy stabbed to death. And all are apparently unrelated.

Northrop Grumman will slash 750 jobs, the South Bay aerospace giant announced Wednesday.

A Wilmington man was charged with vandalism for scrawling in big letters a pretty vulgar phrase directed at his father on the wall of a school. Hey, what the @#$% happened to no-cussing week?

A Harbor Gateway gang member pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges that he shot into a car full of people, hitting a little boy, exactly a year ago.

We have a bevy of post-election coverage here.

Morningside High's boys basketball team is back on top with the help of guard A.J. Harris. Check out some pictures here.
