Reed Sorenson to Gillett Evernham Motorsports

| | Comments (0) |

Reed Sorenson is the latest driver to switch teams. He will be driving for Gillett Evernham Motorsports in 2009, moving from Chip Ganassi's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team.
It was not clear if GEM will add another car to its three-car team.
"We will announce Reed's sponsorships and car number in the near future," said Tom Reddin, CEO of GEM. "He is a highly marketable young driver who knows how to win races, and has a long career full of promise ahead of him."
Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler and Patrick Carpentier are in the cars for GEM currently.
"I'm pretty pumped up about this," said Sorenson who started racing at age 6 before winning 250 quarter midget races and 84 Legends races.
"I can't wait to get in their cars," said Sorenson. "I really believe in what they are doing with their program with all their wins and poles this year. Ray Evernham and the Gilletts are going to give us the equipment we need to go out and be a contender each weekend and eventually race for a championship."

Elliott Sadler staying with Gillett Evernham Motorsports

Elliott Sadler, driver of the No. 19 Dodge for Gillett Evernham Motorsports, signed a multiyear contract extension with the team. The length of the contract was not disclosed.
"This is the place where I want to race," Sadler said. "I think what we are building here is special and something other drivers and crew members envy."
The 33-year-old Sadler joined Gillett Evernham Motorsports in 2006 and has not won a race with the team since then. He has won three Cup races in his carrer, the most recent coming in 2004 at what was then California Speedway for Robert Yates Racing. He was also in the Chase that year.
His teammate, Kasey Kahne, won the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday and the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race the previous weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"Elliott is a well respected driver who has the skills, both on and off the track, to succeed in NASCAR," said CEO Tom Reddin. "In addition to being a great Sprint Cup driver, Elliott has a wonderful personality that attracts fans and sponsors who love working with him. We have enjoyed working with Elliott over the last year and a half and look forward to continuing our relationship."

Elliott Sadler joins Autism Awareness campaign

Elliott Sadler will offer his race helmets for auction to raise funds during Autism Awareness month in April. Sadler, driver of the No. 19 Dodge for Gillett Evernham Motorsports, will be wearing a specially designed race helmet for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in April at Texas Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama.
“Helping to create awareness for autism is an extremely important cause for me,” Sadler said. “It hits really close to home because my niece, Halie, is autistic. The great autism-related charities we’ve worked with over the years offer many different programs and opportunities to help not only those suffering from this developmental disability, but also their families."
He will autograph each helmet, donated by Impact Racing and designed by Ryan Young of Indocil Art, and put it up for auction on the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation Web site, www.sadlerfoundation.org/auction_page.asp. The auctions will begin May 1 and end May 19.
“It is a cause that I’ll do all I can to help raise money and awareness," Elliott Sadler said. “We’re not just trying to raise money for the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation, we’re looking to educate people and raise more awareness about autism.”

A GEM of a Christmas

| | Comments (0) |

A winless season is something new;
For Ray Evernham, an unexpected plot.
His drivers considered among the best;
His cars apparently were not.
Kasey Kahne could not break through,
A second place at Bristol, the best that he could do.
Elliott Sadler fared far worse,
His top-10 finishes from season’s past added up to two.
In steps George Gillett, his pockets deep, a welcome sight;
Enter Patrick Carpentier, a Canadian with a future bold and bright.
Budweiser’s in, Best Buy too. Enough new money for all;
But the Christmas wish at the top of their list is a Dodge engine that does not stall.
