Final week of high school regular season football.

There's still a lot of the line for area teams, even if nothing more than the pride of finishing.

Thursday's games:
Pioneer at California: Visiting Titans would love to be the ones to burst Cal's bubble. Condors still harbor hopes for a share of the league title (with a little help from The Ranch).
El Rancho vs. Santa Fe: Host Chiefs can't afford to blink in this one. Are the Dons really the southland's best 0-9 team?
Fullerton at La Habra: Some of the luster taken off this one with the Highlanders' loss to Troy which most likely determined the Freeway League champion. Fullerton, the league's biggest disappointment this season, could wipe away some of that image by beating the Highlanders and taking second place from them.
Bell Gardens at Montebello Visiting Lancers still smarting from stunning loss to Schurr last week, but could gain a share of the Almont League title with a win and help from Alhambra upsetting Schurr. Spartans just a win away from its fourth consecutive league championship.
Schurr vs. Alhambra: No secret here for the Spartans: Victory equals an outright crown; A loss means sharing it.

Friday's games:
Cantwell Sacred Heart at Verbum Dei: Visiting Cardinals need so swallow hard, get a victory for a piece of the three-way tie for second, then hope to be lucky in the tie breaker.
La Serna vs. Whittier: Simply put, the winner gets third place and the league's last automatic playoff berth. The loser goes home and sits on pins and needles waiting for the playoff pairings to be announced Sunday.
St. Francis at St. Paul: St. Paul needs a win to ensure going to the playoffs. Same for St. Francis, but the Golden Knights could probably receive an at-large berth if they lose. It would be a shot in the dark for St. Paul if the Swordsmen lose.
Maranatha vs. Whittier Christian: Both teams are assured of continuing in the postseason, but only Maranatha ensured of going in as at least a co-champion. A Heralds' victory would erase some of that bad taste left from disappointing loss to Brentwood last week.

Pick 'em as you see 'em.

Emerson, Can you explain to me and the rest of us what an immigrant national anthem is? I was at the game and the band was bad but "immigrant national anthem" What is that!!

Emerson said:

About the time of the mass immigrant rallies last year, someone came up with a "new" version of the national anthem, in spanish with knocks on the US of course. You can find it by Googleing "immigrant national anthem."

Whittier High has a very good band, but their administration made a very poor, disrespectful choice.

i was at the game and on the field and i dont know what the whole immigrants national anthem is? i dont understand

to heraldtime-sorry but ive followed hs football for a long tome and im sure i know a lot more than you do-tell me what comment i made that you dont agree with-are you actually a closet LS fan?-my comment there is that again LS backed into a playoff spot witha phony winning record against bad teams and thank god for the wild card-i hope they enjoy their playoff game as they get whipped by Troy-heraldtime why dont you prove you know something about football

Emerson said:

Good job by my alma mater Cardinals. But the school and their band blew it by playing the "immigrant's national anthem," a pathetic mocking of our own national anthem, before the game. Play that crap on your own time; before a HS football game, OUR national anthem is the only thing any HS band in America should ever play!

Great game Cards, but this was totally classless.

To the LS Grad,
The jokes on you! I would have paid a million to see your face at the end of the game. I would especially like to see what you can say now that LS will face Troy. HaHaHa!

La Serna Grad, what happen to your team? You said that whittier was undisciplined, I believe your team is undisciplined. Also what is up with Your #51. If I only could put down what he said to a couple of whittier players during the game just before he got kicked out.
Good job Whittier on beating La Serna that bad. Now we trully know that La Serna was OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea santa fe owns del rio because you know they beat cal high right? thats funny but whatever we walked away champions... good luck in playoffs everyone!!

highlanderfan said:

Maybe now everyone can understand all of comments about LS being overated.
The season played out and proved the point. OVERATED!!
I hope we get to meet them in the playoffs. Then we can put to rest all of the "were Div.7" " your Div 9" talk, that we had to listen to from the LS fans.

PLEASE LET US PLAY THEM!!!

Hey to the guy to lshs grad. You are right you are the reason people shouldn't be able to right on this blog. Whittier "the most undisciplined team in the whole history of the area." I don't think so did u watch the game when La Serna got spanked. La Serna had at least five personal fouls that were the most pathetic cheap shots I've ever seen. The Whittier kids had class and did not retaliate. Congradulations to whs football for not listening to all the doubters and playing hard nose football this season. Also I don't know if anybody noticed but the RB's from Whittier Isaac Garcia, Daniel Enriquez and Keith Rodriguez are great competitive, hardnosed football players. I could watch them play all day.

WOW i can't understand why you people are allowed to write on this blog. for all "the people that say that whittier is going to beat LS. they are the least Disciplined team in the whole history of the area. even if they are good one year they find a way to lose it all. but thanks for the joke..... whittier over LS, yeah good one man. hehe hehe"

haha..
thats funny

Scoreboard, baby!

Whittier 31
La Serna 10

wow, I expected ER to give Santa Fe a better game than that, we came out and layed an egg. As for SF owning the Del Rio league, thats a load of BS, Cal Hi is the champ and thats that.

Say what you want but the headline today in the WDN says it all

Anonymous 2,

NICE JOKE. MY POINT WAS THAT WE BEAT ALL THE DEL RIO TEAMS... NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE SAY WE KNOW THAT..

Fans--

I don't give Whittier Christian much of a chance against Maranatha. What a match-up--the Heralds vs. the Minutemen, oooohhhhh those are such intimidating sounding names. Where does Whittier come up with their team names anyway? I know KROQ radio was doing a thing last year on the worst nicknames for college teams and the Poets were right at the top!

Pioneer at Cal - Cal wins big
SF vs ER - ER in a close one.
Fullerton vs LH - La Habra
BG vs Montebello - BG will win at the half
Schurr vs Alhambra - Spartans keep it close till the half. Then win by 21
Cantwell vs Verbum Dei - Cantwell
La Serna vs Whittier - La Serna
St Francis vs St Paul - St Francis

CondorPride22,

So do they give patches for your letterman jacket that says, "Del Rio League Champs at Heart."...Is it shaped like a heart? Cause that would be cool.

loveshsfootball said:

my predictions - cal 24 pioneer 14 -la serna 21 whitter 14 ( and the loser is definetly out of the playoffs)- SF 28 ER 14 - St. Francis 28 St. Paul 17 - St. Paul out of the playoffs - La Habra 35 Fullerton 14

Cindy said:

Here's to ALL Del Rio teams! As long as all of the players can look each other in the eye after the game is over and KNOW you left it all on the field, then you will have won.
Good luck to all the Seniors, play hard, stay safe and have fun!
Go La Serna!!!

El Rancho said:

Pioneer at Cal - Cal wins easy
SF vs ER - Most people would take SF, but the ranch will upset.
Fullerton vs LH - La Habra easy

La Serna vs Whittier - La Serna
