CIF State FB Championship Bowl Games: Feel any better about them now?

| | Comments (6) |

Six teams will try to win their version of a high school state football championship in three games to be played Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

In Division I, it will be Concord De La Salle (13-0) against Canyon County Canyon (11-2). Game time 7:30 p.m.
In Division II, it will be Palo Alto (12-1) against Orange Lutheran (13-1). Game time 3:30 p.m.
In Division III, it will be Santa Rosa Cardinal Newman (13-1) against Westlake Village Oaks Christian. Game time 11 a.m.
Interesting matchups, all, but will they really prove anything?
Three state champions? Why not have eight or 10 or a dozen?
Now that the teams have been picked, do you still feel the same as you felt when you first heard about the proposal to determine "state champions?"
The term "Bowl" in the events' titles would indicate that perhaps these three games are more of a reward for a fine season than they are meant to determine the state's best teams. If that's the case, then we ask again, why not more Bowls to accomodate additional section champions?
Maybe the best answer is to leave well enough alone.
If it ain't broke, .... well, you know the rest.

I enjoyed watching the games.
I think that OLU is the best team I saw yesterday.
Aaron Corp's combination of run pass was unstoppable and their overall talent level is outstanding.

Just a coach & El Rancho,

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

The three divisions for the bowl games were determined on population of the school. Orange Lutheren fell in D2 based on their attendance. I feel this Bowl thing is still flawed, fell Oaks Christian would clean up on any of the South's representatives for D1.

They are in division 2 based on the number of students the school has.

Can someone please explain to me why orange lutheran is not in division 1. I can't figure it out.
