VOLLEYBALL: Where are you people?
The CIF Southern Section divisional playoffs begin next week, so it figures you folks have had a season to make up your minds as to who is better than the rest.
El Rancho has dominated the Del Rio League, but La Serna and Whittier have had their moments and individual standouts.
La Mirada's potential appears as yet untapped, so the Matadores might make some noise come postseason play.
And there may be others who started slowly but are now playing their best volleyball at the right time, even though their record might reflect it.

Which area team has the best chance to challenge for a CIF title?

I believe the St. Paul Swordsmen won today against St. Monica and are in contention for a playoff appearance.
That team hasn't been the same since the season ending injury to their starting outside hitter Jerome Orbita. He was an asset to both their offense and defense. He provided the team with energy and moral, especially when they needed it the most. They could surely use him if they do go to the playoffs.
They started, I believe 3-0, in league. But after Orbita went down, they floundered to 2-5 to finish up league. Nathan Adams had another spectacular year also. They blew out their lowered expectations, very much so. Phil Soto, starting and only setter, did an outstanding job, although receiving much pressure all the time.
They have athletic players who aren't even full time volleyball players. Only Chris Munoz, the lebaro, plays volleyball outside of school. The rest are pretty much football and basketball players who think hitting a ball hard into the floor is fun.
I give them respect since its their first playoff performance EVER. Much respect to their coaches also. Great job!
Oh and spring football is coming up. Roger, where's all the hype at?
