Area HS football providing excitement as expected

La Habra's football team gets a warm welcome as it walks through the traditional
fog prior to Friday night's 29-22, come-from-behind victory over Troy.
A pair of nail-biters, one won, one lost, and some more surprises, not
necessarily who won but by how much, highlight Week 6 area football.
It all merely indicates nothing is certain this season, and most assuredly, more of the
same surprises are in store.
And that means more headaches for the experts who post on this blog.
Week 6 results:
La Habra 29, Troy 22
RON-nie HILL-man, RON-nie HILL-man, RON-nie HILL-man! (Turned a 10-yard
pass into a 49-yard, game-winning touchdown inb the final minute.)
El Rancho 19, Santa Fe 13 (OT)
Second half comeback in Week 3 21-20 victory over Montebello showed
Dons' potential; this win validated it.
NOTE: Loss ends Santa Fe's six-year, 30-game winning streak in league
play.
California 40, Pioneer 9
QB Drew Harris only three completions but for three TDS; RBs Matt
Urquiza (146) and Jasper Meza (139) combine for 285 yards. Titans not
the same after QB Ronnie Palacios injured in first quarter.
La Serna 28, Whittier 21
Lancers outlast Cardinals as QB Ben Burke runs for 81 yards, passes for
94, including 38-yard game-winner to Austin Estrada.
La Mirada 14, Norwalk 10
Wow! Prevously struggling Matadores survive their late lost fumble and
resulting Lancers' go-ahead FG with a determined drive highlighted by a
double-pass play that set up Jack Francis' game-winning touchdown.
Montebello 18, Alhambra 10
Wow! Wow! Who knows what these Oilers might accomplish if they'd show up
to play every game like this.
Schurr 41, Mark Keppel 0
The Aztecs have been the Almont League's whipping boy for years, so it
was important for Spartans to win big. Like that.
Whittier Christian 54, Campbell Hall 34
After playing in the shadow of other Herald running backs in his career,
versatile Mark Edwards stepped up and carried 28 times for 242 yards and
four touchdowns, and also sparkled at defensive end.
Cantwell Sacred Heart 23, Mary Star of the Sea 6
Host Cardinals couldn't sustain an offense but used big plays (70-yard
pass play, 65-yard fumble return, blocked punt) and a stingy defense to
offset 129 yards in penalties.
Bishop Amat 31, St. Paul 30 (3 OTs)Swordsmen's sparkling defensive stand at end of regulation wasted as two-point converstion attempt to win on last play of third OT foiled by
a wet, slippery field.
Are the area rankings in line for a major shakeup?

I still remember the TV Reporters coming to our school in my SR year of HS in 95' about the Chiefs logo and mascot.. & the warchant..
I remember my friend asking me about it, and all i said was 'My Dad was a Chief, My Uncle was a Chief, My Aunt was a Chief, My Brother was a Chief, and Im a Chief!'.. I remember our Princepal saying -As long as im here at SFHS, we'll always be a CHIEF!-..
Good luck to the teams that are in the 2nd rd of the playoffs!
I was thinking of sending my 8th grader to St. Paul next year. However, after reading this last post and several other posts, I have changed my mind. The spelling, sentence structure and grammatical errors are off the charts. What are they teaching there? I believe he's better off elsewhere. Just my thought.
ALL YOU PEOPLE STOP TALKING CRAP ABOUT ST.PAUL, AND THERE COACHES. ONECE AGAIN STOP HIDING BEHIND THE COMPUTER AND GO DOWN TO FIELDHOUSE AND TELL THE COACHES THE WAY YOU REALLY FELL. IF YOU HAVE ANY BALLS. IF NOT SHUT UP ALREADY AND GET OFF THE TEAM. AND YOU THINK THE AREA SHCOOLS ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN ST.PAUL TELL THEM TO GIVE ST.PAUL A CALL, AND PLAY THEM IN A GAME. YOU KNOW THEY WON'T BECAUSE, THEY DONT WANT TO GET THERE BUTS KICK IF THEY PLAYED ST.PAUL. YOU KNOW IT AND EVERYBODY ELSE KN0WS IT TOO. SO STOP HATEING ON ST.PAUL, AND GO SWORDSMEN!!!!
It never fails that all the talk over a program at St. Paul's that has had it glory days, when a small school played at 5A level and beat the best team in the area. The SPH fan needs to realize that the school should be playing 1A team or drop football altogether. They don't have the draw they once did and most families can't pay $5,000 in tuition.SPH teams are smaller than the 70-80 when they had bigger players.I played for SPH in 58-59 and our front line was way over 200 LBS. Our FB was 200.All this talk is just talk over a dead horse that will not rise and race again. Old Warrior.
SP VS ANYBODY IN THE AREA WOULD BE WHIPPED. TOUGH LOSS AGAINST A NOT SO TALENTED (LOCAL) D-1 SCHOOL. I CHALLENGE ANYBODY TO ARGUE.YOU CANT EVEN COMPARE THE LEVEL OF COMPETITION SP FACES EVERY OTHER WEEK COMPARED TO ANYBODY IN THE SURROUNDING CITIES. STOP HATING AND JUST REALIZE THEY PLAY BETTER SCHOOLS, SCHOOLS NOBODY ELSE WOULD CONSIDER, YET WHEN THEY LOSE SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO CRITICIZE. JUST REMEMBER YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE BIG GAMES IN ORDER TO WIN OR LOSE THE BIG GAMES!!!
I believe #38 on SP's JV team is Jared Morales, he transferred in from ER.
Big pUnk,
Get a life! Hey ER way to keep the Del Rio league on check. REALITY CHECK....LOL.
Who is #38 on the SP JV team? that kid is the real deal. Is he suiting up on friday nights?
SPFan,
People only talk alot of smack about SP footballbc alot is expected but not alot happens....granted last year they overachieved, but wouldn't you agree then they are kind of underachieveing so far this...The coaching staff is working hard but so do the rest of the coaches in the area, and so do the players...people follow Whittier Football and your in it so people will not stop giving praise or critcizing you it just comes with the territory...how do you think the best rpogram in the area feels this year Santa Fe, they have been criticized more than SP has and they have handled it well, like i said it just comes with the territory...
Well SP fan heres your shot to show how its all come together right before league opens.Keep those asperations of a Crespi upset high. With the home crowd cheering you on and playing in the PIT, a Swordsman victory would not be suprising.........and then you woke up, as if, CRESPI 45 SP 0 OH YEAH, IN THE PIT NO LESS!
Who cares if St. Paul has the best or the worst record? it is so ridiculous to hear people talk crap every single week. These kids are out there working their tale off each and every week. I see, that the coaches even work harder than the kids. So for the hundreth time stop hating so much on St. Paul if you don't like the school don't follow them, plain and simple.
To delrioHB
Roger Murray does not take official stats. He and his writers will take unofficial stats and use that in his article after the game. The Whittier Daily News uses stats put in by your coaching staff or via another cite like maxpreps.com. Which also comes from your coaching staff. So if Burke's stats are wrong you should take it up with your coaching staff. I was at the game and do realize it was a screen pass and not a run. And the mistake probably did reflect in the stats given in that article, but it should not effect his total stats if your coaching staff or stat people tallied their stats up correctly.
SP QB ALUM IAM NOT A CHEIF FAN NOR AM I A SWORDSMEN IAM FROM OLU AND GREW UP IN THE AREA OF SANTA FE/SAINT PAUL I AM JUST WONDERING WHY YOU THINK SAINT PAUL IS SO GREAT WHAT HAVE THEY REALLY DONE SINCE 1981?AND I DO KNOW OF A COUPLE OF THE GUYS THAT YOU MENTION GOOD PLAYERS I GUESS WHAT IAM GETTING AT IS YOU MAKE THE SAINT PAUL PROGRAM SOUND LIKE ITS TOP NOTCH ? IS IT COMPARED TO WHAT SANTA FE AND MAYBE IT IS FOR THIS AREA SFSPGS WHITTIER NORWALK PICO HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO OR SEEN REAL TOP NOTCH PROGRAMS MATER DEI NORCO CC MISSION V OLU SERVITE AND IF GUYS TRANSFER TO GET SEEN BY D1 SCHOOLS WHY IS THAT THE ONLY 2 GUYS I HAVE HERD OF ARE TARDY (WSU)GRIGSBY (AZ)IF YOU CAN COUNT HIM PLEASE RESPOND!!!
You are a racist pig because of your posting on October 15, 2007 03:50 PM in which you referred to Santa Fe as the home of the Lancers…Vikings….(etc). Those are the only two I am going to list because you know the other term you used that I have chosen to omit. For you to use that term here in this public forum for ALL to read either makes you a racist or an utter buffoon! Which is it Muggs????
Nice job trying to turn the tables but the fact is the SF logo, name and chant have been there way before many of us were even born and there for has nothing to do us from its inception but the CRAP that spewed from your brain is all you!!!!!
OUR CHIEFTAIN IS WORN WITH PRIDE. OUR CHANT IS DONE IN UNITY. What was your racial slur done in?????
WDN must have agreed since I see that your posting has been removed. Thank you WDN.
delrioHB,
Read the entire topic, Curt Mugg was replying to being called a racist and having one of his prior responses deleted.
Hey Roger, in the La Serna- Whittier game, Burke passed to Lozano in the flat (a forward pass, not a lateral)and then he ran it home. It was not a run from scrimmage. Burke's passing stats should be higher.
Hey Muggs, why jump to racism? I understand that some native americans might take offense, but national polls of Native Americans have shown many times that majorities favor the respectful use of Indian terms and images. It is a sign of respect. Chiefs- I think of tough, noble, corageous men, and I think most people of all races do. Same with Braves, Warriors, Apaches, etc. Tough, heroic fighters! To paraphrase a Seinfeld episode, "How can I be racist if I LIKE your race?"
When you cry racism in this context- a prep football blog, over a high school team name of Chiefs- it just makes you look like a whining victocrat looking to find offense.
Fight racism that's real, when it's real, Muggs, and you'll find most people will support you.
hs fan,
$5? you are crying about $5? Are you serious? You can park on the street. How hard is it to walk 100 extra feet? They should charge you $10 for writing dumb blogs.
hsfootballfan,
Every day you keep climbing that idiot ladder higher and higher. Did ER not throw 2 Interceptions? if I use your logic then had we not thrown those 2 interceptions we would have won by 3 touchdowns. Just accept it, your streak is over, snapped by the ranch, its no more, swallow it already. The ranch is a better team than SF this season, just accept it already. Move on, you got cal hi, forget about the ranch...
Wow, that was said nicely. I have often wondered how so many St. Paul fans are so hard on their own coach. SP QB brought up a good point Coach Ancich wasn't the godess of football for the past 10 years. Yes maybe back in the day but it took years and years to make him a legend. I don't have anything against Coach A but damm week in and week out talking crap about the coaching staff gets old, these coaches are doing a great job. It's amazing that these are St. Paul supporters who have a lack of loyalty. Go Swordsmen keep up the hard work. To all you pathetic fans who are so loyal to Ancich go to Cerritos and support him there, go and talk all your crap over there and drive those parents and kids crazy.
WHAT A ALOT OF CLASS ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL HIGH SCHOOL HAS.THEY ARE THE ONLY HIGH SCHOOL IN THE AREA THAT CHARGES $5.00 TO PARK YOUR CAR @ A FOOTBALL GAME.WHAT A RIP!!ANY SCHOOL THAT HOSTS THEM SHOULD CHARGE $10.00
ER is 1-0... pre games are pre games its all about league now..,, ER DONS ARE MADE OF GOLD!
WHY AM I A RACIST PIG?? because im a EL RANCHO product that is a Native American. your school should be banned for that logo you guys got on your helmet. what tribe or nation is that chief from?? that "WAR CHANT" that ur high school band plays makes me embrassed! --ROGER MURRay you should have a interview with santa fe springs high. i thought native american logos were banned!
First of all, I am not John Matuz but he must be a pretty important guy for some of you to call him out by name. But your wrong which makes you look even dumber.
Secondly, anybody who would question Marion Anchich's record should not be allowed on this site. Coach A doesn't need me to speak for him, his wins and league titles and CIF championships speak loudly enough.
Lastly, with St Paul's recent home record, don't call it the Pit. It was the Pit when the Swordsmen never lost at home but those days are in the past. I remember when the loss record was single digit in the early 80's , thats when it was THE PIT.
As an alum, I wish St Paul all the luck in the world but still, the lack of self control and the personal fouls are a joke.
Lets stop personally attacking these kids and lets cheer for the teams but be man enough to keep teenagers out of the BS being brought up here.
El Rancho's success is due to a terrific coaching staff and I hope they keep on winning.
By the way, the Colorado's 3rd base coach Mike Gallegos is a former Swordsman who grew up in Pico Rivera. Good guy who deserves all the success he has earned.
WDN - Nice Showdown "NEXT" Friday!!!! ops!
To bad Pie High will have two league losses by then!!!!!
What a bunch of "armchair" "glory days" "could'a,should'a,would'a-beens" leave the boys alone! Where's the positive praise, the atta-boys and the guidance? Why haven't any of you added insightful, informative constructive knowledge? These young men could use information about playing at the next level. S.A.T. prep, NCAA Clearinghouse procedure & requirements, and the recruiting process haven't come up once. It seems you're all blinded by the "FridayNightLights". Shame on you.
It seens people have short memories. SP 35 and ER 0 and ER had only 60 total offensive yards. This with one touchdown called back. Suddenly one win and their a power.
first of all for those who dont know, Galan & Aldecoa are good players and they did have strong contributions to last year's semi-final team, but Aldecoa left SP not because he has "Blue Pride" but becuase he cant handle hard work and dedication that comes with being an SP football player, and by the way Aldecoa might have played FB last year with Sonic @ TB but he wasn't blocking much!!! As for Galan, he was forced 2 leave by his parents and if given the choice would still be @ SP right now and thats a fact trust me!!!
John Matuz (SP class of 83) what was your beloved Coach A's record his final season as coach?? It was 5-5 now you talk about not having control he had none what so ever his last year i can tell you that so do us all a favor and shut your mouth about SP & go watch a Cerritos College game so you can see your beloved Ancich again because obviuosly you have no clue of what is going on here @ SP!!
And Big Unk stop hating on SP!! You believe so strongly in the DRL and yet every year SP calls these teams to play and no one ever wants too, especially Santa Fe!! SP has been calling them the last 5 years to play and SF never wants to becuase they dont want to lose their players to SP !!! Well i got news for you guys Encinas, Flores and now Viramontes camoe to SP not becuase they were recruited as all of you want to believe!! They want to play for a better program period!! I know this becuase this what these boys have told me... And even the SF players from the 605 game said "i wish i would have came to SP, SF is nothing like this and there is no place like this." And bottom line, only one DRL team has tried to step up and play us, and thats the ranch... They deserve some respect for trying to hang with the Swordsmen but we all know wut happened a couple weeks ago, 35-0 in The Pit
Hey SE Scout,
Are you kidding me? La Serna is going to be third place in the Del Rio League? At worst they are going to be 4-1. Burke has thrown for 11 TD's and is bigger and faster than any QB around here (Del Rio league or not). More importantly than have the best offensive coordinator who he is thriving under. No other team has a QB and a tailback with there speed. If they spread the field they can run or throw and there receivers and O-line are good. In four games, he wasn't the starter for the first two games, Burke has thrown for 850 yards (max preps). His size and speed is the problem. Ask Whittier HS, when they spread the field he ran for 80 yards and threw for 170 and Jordan went for another 100 yards. LS didn't play well but they are getting better each week. Last year, Whittier killed La Serna but this is a different year. Third place? You obviously have not watched them.
Anyone who keeps writing el rancho is so great needs to relax...you beat SF bc they made mistakes it was not a case of who wanted it more...if they dont turn the ball over to you guys on the qb's mistake that was there game and they served it up to you...think of it as a an early christmas present...lets see if you make playoffs than maybe people just maybe people might take you seriously
Honestly I don't here anybody on here talking trash about El Rancho. Yet all year I hear El Rancho trying to defend themselves and claim the lack of respect card. Face it last year you were 0-10 so nobody was going to give you respect coming in because respect has to be earned. In non-league you only beat two poor teams Cerritos 0-6 coached by Ancich by the way ha ha. And Montebello who is 1-5 and just got their first victory. So once again respect not earned. Now you got a quality win over Santa Fe and instead of letting people give you respect you just talk and talk and talk. I know you thing everybody is against you but the truth is most del rio league followers were happy for you. A little humility never hurt anyone. The truth is if you win this week people will start to respect you. You don't have to talk all day on this cite about the lack of respect.
You guys have no idea what you are talking about as far as the transfers from SP to ER are about.
One left for financial reasons (SP would take him back in a minutue) and the other was asked to leave because of disciplinary issues.
So don't go around trying to insinuate otherwise.
That is all in the past. Just leave it be and let the boys play ball without having to worry about what you idiots are saying online.
matador,
Have i bagged on anybody... no. You yourself agree that the team this year is not as good as the past. I will bleed blue and gold for as long as i live. You yourself can agree that it is frustrating seeing whats going on.If i still lived down in Lamtown i would probably be coaching there and have a say whats going on. The whole system is backwards right now. I mean they can't score points. They have the tools, but they cant put points on the board. Defense can only do so much. If you had some offense picking the defense up there record would probably be a bit better. To me it looks like they have gone away from the run and have tried to put the ball through the air. thats great if you have a strong armed quarterback and decent recievers. they are not utilizing there backs. Salerno, tracy. i have coached there kids they are good running backs. I know there offensive line is good because i coached them. Bad play calling is whats going on. Dont blame the head coach, dont blame the kids blame the o cordinator. If they wouldve gave Mark o'neil the job they probably would be doing just fine. Dont ever tell me to shut up matador. Be a man and tell me who you really are. you probably dont even know the half of LM football.
"St. Paul Rejects"? Is that the best you can do?? Its comments like that that keep those two boys playing as hard as they do. As stated in a couple of the blogs, those two boys, Aldecoa and Galan both reside in Pico Rivera, and El Rancho is THEIR high school. If you dont know why they left St.Paul, then keep your trap shut....and to the blogger who said that you dont have to attend a division 1 school to get to a great college, BRAVO, your right, if you got it, they will come and find you, so to all the boys of the El Rancho football team....ROCK ON BOYS!!!!! "Its your world, were just livin in it"!
If SP fan knew anything about SP football he would know that both ER transfers Galan/Aldecoa started as freshmen and sophmore. And ONE reason (not the only reason) they left was cause of the coaches. Can you blame them, look what their accomplishing now that their getting a fare shot.Next year this backfield duo could be the best in the DRL.Yeah SP fan Sonic is pretty good but if he's got no one blocking for him he aint getting very far.Who do you think blocked for him all last year.ALDECOA.Go out and recruit somemore RBs cause you cant keep the local kids and you most definately cant develop the talent when you have it.
SPFAN,
LOL. If you ask the players who the best coach on the coaching staff is I'm sure they'll say Defensive Coordinator Gil Jimenez. According to more than a few players he's the best X's and O's guy and his coaching method gets them fired up to play. Ask around!
Not impressed,
I can agree with Gallegos who's one of the better athletes. Stiger proved last year that he isn't cut out for WR. He's doing a fantastic job at OLB. Cepeda's been dinged up all season. Lopez should be incorporated some more too, but I think thats what makes the SPHS defense so good is having fresh bodies.
how bout those sp paul transfers!!!did they have a game or wut??i heard marcus galan played with a broken foot in that game!
aldecoa played with a concussion n still these boys pulled it out.so give them respect n for all those people who said they left because of competion your idiots because if you noticed they started last year so stop hating!!!!!!!
el rancho is a force to be reckin with in the DRL!!!
St.Pauls Aubrey haynes has been nothing but a bust this season, he has not played the past few games due to a slight ankle sprain. From what I've heard is that he has no heart or work ethick. I would take #34 Garcia over aubrey any friday of the week. No wounder Diamond Ranch was happy to see him transfer.

Hank,
You have Stiger, Gallegoes, Cordova, Cepeda, Lopez, Trejo, even Flores who could do more offensively. These kids are all seasoned and have been in big games already, remember they played a tougher schedule last year and were part of the reason St. Paul made the semi finals. Why would you not use them more?
ALL,
This BLOG is an outstanding way for everyone to talk about there team other teams coaches etc... but when we start using bad language and calling out kids, the line has to be drawn. El Rancho is a power house that has had some down years Whittier has has some down years, and so has every team in this area. Football is competitive and more so now! Transfers, Catholic school etc.. means nothing because on Friday night the game has to be played and some times the best team doesn't win the team that wins is the team the can come together for the benefit of the TEAM! Stop calling out the KIDS! Enjoy he BLOG or we may not have one.
DeVaughn Egans "92 Whittier
All you have to do is look to see who the defensive coordinator is and that tell you why there is no discipline. He is a joke and needs eliminate his FOUR letter vocabulary. Isnt he at a CATHOLIC school? so why is it that the F word comes out every other word. He has no tact and no coaching skills. How about coaching your kids instead of them into the ground a day before the game. wow what a novel idea, coaching instead of hearing yourself curse and swear and yell. Your becoming more of an embarrassment to SP.
St Paul fans get over yourselves. You forget you recruit kids from the Pico Dons, Montebello Indians, Whittier Redskins etc., and pull the Cities best boys to play at your school and yet you can't win CIF ..must be the coaching. So when you talk about "Transfers" like the Guys going to the Ranch, Those Guys are truelly representing the City and Community they grew up in and the true SCHOOL they belong to. Your St Paul rejects are the product of ST PAUL's Coaching Ability or lack of, remember...they were the best goin to St Paul and You Wanted them BAD at One Point and Cheered for Them! St Paul talks that local schools cant compete with them, try not recruiting Guys from Santa Fe or Whittier and see HOW WELL YOU COMPETE! So all You Local Guys, stay true to your City, Family and Friends you Grew Up with and Play for the School you Belong Too and win a Championship there, since St Paul Cant! St Paul is not a Promise to Play for a College Division I School. True Talent will show at which ever school you go to.
CURT MUGG
You are a racist pig and need to be banned from this and any other blog!!!!!!
I hope you are listening Mr. Murray.
ok mcintosh what is your problem...ok congradulations that LM '01 team was great but and no one has ever bagged on you guys so it getting pretty pathetic that you keep bringing it up good job and you no what this LM is not even close to as good as that team but were doing what we can so shut up
O well all things have to end, congrats er on winning a league game with "their tranfers" doing most of everything, lucky for them they got those St. Paul rejects that couldn't hang with SP.
hsfootballfan you are an idiot. Those 2 kids were a big part of the St Paul semifinal team last year, no way were those 2 rejects, they contributed big time. You just cannot accept the fact that ER tapped that ass on friday night, Aldecoa was not going to be stopped in OT. When exactly did Ray Madrid transfer from anywhere, I guess his INT for a TD doesnt count huh. SF seems to get a transfer every year that bails them out e.g Pellum, Kimbrough etc. Finally ER gets some transfers that help us, the only difference between our transfers and your transfers is that these kids are supposed to be going to ER and live in Pico Rivera. Your transfers are coming from Downey, Norwalk, Compton, Maywood, Whittier.... you catch my drift.
please el rancho beat a chief team that is by definition in the crapper, maybe jack you should help this qb instead of just using him 4 a year waiting 4 your nephew 2 get there great move sf!!! lets go la serna!!!!
Not impressed,
Can you please elaborate? What player/s do you feel should start ahead of who?
St Paul under coach A was a great running team, i alwalys told my self that to be a winner you need to have a balance offense to keep the defense on check. its nice to see St Paul finally having a quarterback that could do that not only with his arm but the ability to run and scramble to either get the 1st down or looking for an open reciever down the field. just need to have more dicipline and control with penalties. the defense always shows up an plays good. so with a solid defense and a offense that could mix it up with passing and running. theres no reason why St Paul couldn't take league.
new spfan,
Welcome aboard the swordsmen boat. You'll never find a team with more support from family, friends, alumni, and the community. Everywhere st. paul fans go, they outnumber the host school. Wait til playoff come around. OH my God! You'll get all pumped up just being there on the line waiting to get in. Go St. Paul.
and for that kucklehead who called out that whittier kid. He is just that a kid. Keep that in mind. Dont be jealous of the kid, just support him.
st.paul transfers to el rancho cant hang with st.paul...werent they starting last year as sophmores...and dont blame them for leaving blame the coaching staff
SP class of 83,
We all know you are John Matuz and all you do is bash SP. Get over it. Coach A is gone and Dusan will never get the La Mirada job so stop begging you look pathetic on Calhisports.
Navarro,
You pick Pioneer as #9 in CIF? Wow! Talk about subjectivity. Rank with your head not your heart! :)
~LAP
Montebello wins one game and now we have to "watch out for them"....
Watch what the rest of the league does to them starting this week with Schurr...(by 25). Much less when we (SG)play, We will win by 50..
To the ill-informed fan who made a comment about El Rancho's transfers.....you should know what your talking about before you mouth off and make yourself look dumb.
El Rancho's "Transfers" all live in Pico Rivera. They left St Paul due to the coaching staff , the transfers coming in from across the Southland and their own personal views.
The 'transfers' from El Rancho are Pico Rivera kids who choose to play for their hometown school rather than the Catholic school 10 miles away.
El Rancho was simply better overall than Santa Fe...plain and simple. Santa Fe played their heart out but it was not enough.
As for St. Paul, they once again lost another close game to a major rival. I am tired of these 'moral victories" , Amat is not a powerhouse any more and although close, its just another loss for the once proud and mighty Swordsmen.
The personal fouls and lack of discipline from St Paul would never have been tolerated by Coach Anchich and its a shame these current Swordsmen have cost their team some games due to their lack of control and discipline.
Anonymous:
If you're gonna call out an individual player, for whatever reason, at least be a man about it and include your name in the posting. It's sad that you even resort to bashing a high school kid, but to do so without owning up to it is just gutless.

WHS Freshman Coach
Hey Murray,
In the Whittier vs. La Serna game, the first score was a screen pass from Burke to Lozano for a 78 yd touchdown pass. If you don't believe me ask;Big Red(who picked Whittier to win),the Coaches or the Whittier defense who were trying to catch Lozano.
Go Lancers!
One of the best High school games I’ve ever been to….One can say, the team with the most points wins, not necessarily the best team won. I was invited by a local friend that is an active AMAT booster member. It started to be an average Friday night varsity game, but as the game moved on you can sense something was about to take place. All these kids played their hearts out, my friend and I had a great sideline view of the game. I thought he was going to faint when they went to the 3rd. OT, with the rain coming down and both sides screaming for there team to win.
Let’s just say I have become a SWORDSMEN fan. I will be going to all their road and away game for now on. Their heart and determination on the field gave me chills. I saw a young man hopping around trying to make something happen. Now I know why people have different remarkes about St. Paul High school, they will play anyone; from Div.1 to Div.4 bring all haters on.
Thank you, St. Paul Swordsmen…..
Many people doubt El Rancho that they are a competetive team because of their preseason record (2-3) and last years record (0-10).What people don't see is their preseason opponents compared to all the other teams in DRL.Santa Fe,respectively, has a tough schedule to prepare them for league and Cal gets through,I guess. That's why you see La Serna,Whittier,Pioneer always competing for 3rd place or an At Large bid for playoffs.Roger Murray,it seems like you favor statistics very much rather than to look at their opponents schedule strength.El Rancho will be in the playoffs and possibly league champs.
Wow La mirada beat Norwalk 14-10. Isnt that what there supposed to do. Does anybody remember when La mirada used to beat those kindve schools by 40 50 points. I would also like to see whittier daily news do an all decades team. also the best high school game of the decade in the area. 01' la mirada vs. newport harbor semi final game LMHS 13 NH 10 in ot.
YEAH BABY MONTEBELLO IS IN LEAGUE AND READY TO ROLL SO WHATCH OUT FOR US...
One down 4 to go ER.If you can continue 2 play with same heart and will to win U will suprise alot of non-believers.This was most definately a team win with key plays on both sides of the ball. The offence can be more creative but give the coaching staff alot of credit for putting them in a position to succeed instead of panicking and take chances.ER vs LS will be close lets see who blinks 1st.
Wow, what a shocker!! SF lost to ER...
O well all things have to end, congrats er on winning a league game with "their tranfers" doing most of everything, lucky for them they got those St. Paul rejects that couldn't hang with SP.
SP lost a close game but it would have been a victory if they had staer running Aubrey Haynes
Pioneer once again lost after weak pre-season, you see "you are who we think your are"
Cal proved they are the earlt team to beat
Both La Serna and Whittier proved they belonged in the DRL title race.
The CIF rankings, whichever Division one looks at, is every bit as volitile as the NCAA picture; and for good reason. Any team, on any day, is capable of losing.
The problem, I see, with polls is that pollsters are influenced by too much subjectivity based on what they think, or wish, should have happened and not enough objectivity based on the results on the field. It leads to voters voting with their heart rather than their head. Obviously some subjectivity is required, but it should be realistic.
Based on performance and performance of opponents, I'd rank the SE as:
1. La Habra (6-0)
2. California (6-0)
3. La Serna (5-1)
4. San Gabriel (5-1)
5. Ocean View (5-1)
6. Arroyo (4-2)
7. Troy (4-2)
8. Whittier (5-1)
9. Pioneer (4-2)
10.Schurr (3-3)
We shall see what we shall see.
wait wasn't it a 4 game winning streak?
gutsy call coach p. showing your team you have faith in them to win it. you drew the line and went for it. I hope lopez is ok, we need him for league. good thing your running game stepped up in o/t after lopez went down or else we could of been doomed.
This is for the Whittier High School Quarter Back Alec Campo. If you can't handle the pressure step aside and let another player have a chance at the game. There's nothing worse then player that comes off the field and sits down on the bench and pouts. Stand up and support the D-line. Also don't go running to momma at the end of the game to cry on her shoulers. Please your suppose to set and example to the rest of your team. Step aside. Cardinals be proud you had a great game on Friday night against LaSerna. Be proud and show it,keep your heads up high.
St. Paul just can't seem to help itself, penalties, turnovers, and poor play calling. Yet, they still win the game if we can make a 23 yard field goal. Having said all this put the game behind you and prepare for Crespi who comes in looking to dominate.
Cut down on the personal fouls, play your top athletes, and allow the defense some rest. What was once a promising year with all your returners looks like it may be slipping away from you coach. Have some loyality and play the kids that have been their throughtout the years, where is the promise one gets when you start off as a freshman that hard work and dedication will pay off your last two years? You see this in other schools but here at St. Paul that is treason! I am wondering if you believe these other kids who have not earn the right to step in will get you through the next four games, or will you call on your returns to bail you out again as they did last year? Never the less, I hope it does not come down to the last game again, the kids that have been here may not respond.
GO SWORDSMEN! GREAT GAME, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, YOU GOT A HAND FULL THIS WEEK!
What a great game last night at Amat,I had chills up and down my spine with the rain coming down on St pauls last possesion and with the crowd running on to the field at the end. What a great atmosphere.thanks ST PAUL & BISHOP AMAT!!!!!
