La Serna sends DRL mates a message: Anybody listening?

La Serna 45, El Monte 14.

So much for a post from blogger 'once a Chief, always a Chief,' who wrote, "Rudy Jordon, the real deal every DRL team is looking at film to find a way to stop him, stop him you stop LS."
Case in point No. 1: El Monte held Jordan to 14 yards on nine carries.
The problem is that in stopping really good individual players, no matter the position, a team must commit a portion of its defense to that task. In doing so, they often expose other areas of weakness and provide other players with opportunities.
Case in point No. 2: La Serna quarterback Ben Burke completes 15 of 25 passes for 292 yards and four touchdowns, and runs for two more.
Some observers feel the best way to control an opponent, be it an individual and/or team, often becomes the responsibility of the (surprise ...) offense.
Keep the ball to sustain possession and control the clock. And don't give the ball away.
Case in point No. 3: El Monte committed five turnovers --three interceptions, two fumbles.

In its victory over El MonteThursday, La Serna demonstrated it has more weapons than just one, and in the long run, with what appears to be the most balanced Del Rio League football schedule in years dead ahead, the Lancers' performance definitely should make their league mates take notice.

Anybody paying attention??

Rudy Jordan is a good running back and his versatilty is a strength not a weakness. He has the ability to get outside and La Serna his plenty of backs to get 2 yards. Good coaches use there players to there strengths and that will be displayed this year.

I give credit were credit is due, good job La Serna (humble pie don't taste so good)
Like I said befor DRL is going to be great to watch!!
it going to be 3 team toss up SF,Cal, La Serna one loss could determine league champs, GO CHIEFS

La Serna is a tough team to defend they have big receivers, good tight ends, an experienced offensive line and an athletic running back and QB. In the end, athletes make plays. I have not seen Pioneer but after watching all the others there is no QB as athletic as Burke. May be he isn't as experienced as some of the others (Morales and Harris)but athletically it is not even close. Neither could run at all so that eliminates them as a threat to run in throwing situations. With Jordan as the coach each week he gets better. Name the last QB around here that passed and ran for over 350 yards and 6 td's. If they can win league or not will be decided later but defending that offense is trying to be decided now.

Good Evening, i hear alot about la serna and the jordans the fairweather player and coach, its a shame to leave the kids that fought side by side with you to win a cif championship just because daddy couldnt be the o coordinater. way to go guys, what a classless pair. yeah they have won by scoring lots of points, but look who they are playing, are they playing the pico dons next preseason?

Rudy Jordan is overrated. I have seen him play in three games this year. There are about 4 to 5 del rio running backs i would put in front of him. I know he won last year at Shurr but he wasnt asked to do as near as much as he will this year. If you ask me he is more of a receiver playing as a running back. He constantly tries to bounce things outside.

Nice "face" to anonymous, teammate! A true illustration of the difference between a trash-talking know-knothing (anonymous), and a kid who is there and knows the real deal.

Good, competitive DRL this year. Jordan and his teammates should make the playoffs, at least, this year. Good luck and and (hopefully) no serious injuries to all of the schools this year!

team mate,
marry the guy,
murray,
how many touchdowns did he score on that game?

How about giving credit to that massive o-line.

anonymous,
Rudy Jordan's "horrible" game consisted of going both ways, many tackles, an interception, one of the hardest hits of the game to break open a teammates long run, 4 receptions for over 90 yards and a tough catch and run for a 60 yard touchdown.

La Serna does not only rely on running the ball. They can definitely throw the ball. They have good and quick enough receivers to go out for a pass. They're just showing others that they can pass the ball and not just rely on running the ball, I guess they proved that on Thursday night!

good luck to the DRL schools!

Dontcha just love it when guys get all bent over their team wallowing in defeat?

Anon... as a Titan fan and alum I am hard pressed to pick Pioneer over Cal. They will have to dig deep to pull off the upset, but stranger things have happened in football.

As for El Rancho ... well, it is what it is. The Dons MIGHT upset Pioneer. They might even upset Santa Fe. But I would hold my breath. El Rancho appears to be content in the cellar.

Your comment ('All that hype for Jordan must of gotten to him because he looked horrible.') is a bit harsh. El Monte's defense may have had something to do with his performance. It's interesting that he had only nine carries (injured??). A break for El Monte, because he has the ability to break one anytime from anywhere, as evidenced against Warren when 16 of his 21 carries were for 3 yards or less, yet he ended up with 150 yards.

All that hype for Jordan must of gotten to him because he looked horrible. No way this team can duplicate the performance from thursday. Pioneer has no chance to take Cal for league. El Rancho? are they still in a High School League? They should be in a pop warner league. I'm telling you the only team worth typing about is La Habra. Anything else is just a waste of time.

D. Navarro if you think the ranch is going 0-5 the next 5 games, you got something else coming, keep thinking the ranch is just some pushover, have you seen ER play at all this year? Last year that we went 0-10 the whittier daily news was giving us more respect than we have gotten this year. How many times has pioneer started their season so much better than ER,playing against scrub after scrub only to go into league and get worked by the ranch. We did it to ricky reyes and we are gonna do it again this year. Trade schedules with us and we would be 5-0 you would be 2-3 or worse. I love the lack of respect, its gonna bite a couple of DRL schools in the ass.

DRL at a glance:

Next to California, La Serna is looking like a legitimate heir to the DRL throne and the Lancers have been making noises that they are for real.

California has different plans. The undefeated (5-0) Condors open against the upstart Pioneer Titans who's lone DRL win last year came against a winless El Rancho Dons 27-24. The Titans share the spoiler's chair with the Whittier Cardinals. The Dons may have to settle for their two preseason wins, which is two wins better than last year's 0-10 record, although it is not inconceivable that El Rancho may well upset Santa Fe in their DRL opener.
