Week 6: Some tough choices as league play begins
Just thinking ...
League favorites playing each other to open the league schedule.
What a shame.
Several years ago, two teams that were consensus picks to finish 1-2, were scheduled to play the league opener but switched it to the last game of the season.
Too bad Troy and La Habra didn't do that this year.
Season prognostications:
Roger Murray: Last week - 7-2; Season - 49-11
Andrew Campa: Last week - 7-2; Season - 42-18
This week's picks:
Alhambra vs. Montebello, at Schurr HS: Murray (Alhambra), Campa (Alhambra)
California at Pioneer; Murray (California), Campa (California)
Campbell Hall vs. Whittier Christian, at Whittier College: Murray (WhChristian), Campa (Campbell Hall)
La Mirada vs. Norwalk, at Excelsior Adult School: Murray (Norwalk), Campa (Norwalk)
Mary Star of the Sea at Cantwell Sacred Heart: Murray (Cantwell), Campa (Cantwell)
Santa Fe at El Rancho: Murray (Santa Fe), Campa (Santa Fe)
Schurr at Mark Keppel: Murray (Schurr), Campa (Schurr)
Troy at La Habra: Murray (La Habra), Campa (La Habra)
Whittier vs. La Serna, at California HS: Murray (La Serna), Campa (La Serna)
St. Paul at Bishop Amat: Murray (St. Paul), Campa (St. Paul)
Best potential for upset: Murray (Whittier), Campa (Troy)
Agree or disagree?

Great blog!! You should start many more. I love all the info provided. I will stay tuned :)
High quality info here! Keep up the great work. I love the feelings being expressed.
Super post – and great domain by the way:-)
Today we all want to go into fashion and want as Hollywood and TV stars dress. One of the accessories on the list of all scholarships ladies. It is always a duty, a carrying case, where you go. It is possible to buy designer Buy Replica Bags as too expensive.
Thank you lots, I am obliged to announce that your blog is excellent!
To big unk,
Last time I checked Crespi defeated St. Bonnie 25-9. So, your claims don't really hold to much weight.
N-ON-E-MUS
I have been around the WC Football program for 12 years and I can tell you they don't recruit or give scholarships.
I am a St.Paul alumni and after reading these I can't beleive that some of these people actually went to St.Paul and have no support. Man you don't have to like the coach but show some class and just don't say anything. Hey I played for Coach A and he was good but his time is over. Its time to shut up and put up with the new coach. Damm he took us to the Semi-Finals last year and I guarentee one thing half of you guys talking crap on this blog were at the game routing for the Swordsmen. Just chill and show some class.
Hey no fear you must be some kind of genie that you can demand 50 points. Hopefully you guys wont beat us by 50, I'm not stupid I don't know what the game will be like. But dude what the heck do you care what our coaches do and say?
You just keep changing your name but your still the same sick, pathetic, boring, big mouths who won't go away. Please go and bash another school give us a break were all sick of you.
Ouch! The name calling really hurts SP fan not to mention all the crude remarks.I guess critisism is something you cant handle so lets just talk facts from here on out.Yes that is a Niiiice record 0f 4-2 and no one is questioning your boys heart or work ethic but the plain truth is your best game played was a loss to BA.Wins against lower divisions dont count or does SP consider all their competion top notch. And whether you like it or not anything less than making the playoffs IS underachieving. What happened to playing the St Bonnies and Notre Dames now that would have been something to hang your hat on.Hail ye mighty Swordsmen as you ride into the the valley of death. Its gonna be long off season better start recruiting now.
Hey Spartan Fan you should just worry about Montebello tomorrow night. I'm sure a Spartan education is the best around, right?
To Mr. J. Gonzalez-
It's not really an accurate statement to say that St. Paul has only 350 boys to draw from for their football program. Correct me if I'm wrong, but St. Paul has the ability to recruit and draw from the entire LA and Orange County area (in reality they can recruit nationally-but this is not realistic). So to say it's only a 350 pool of boys is false. Didn't a number of players come from other schools? So, they weren't even part of this 350 pool that attended St. Paul last year. You actually have the ability to draw from hundred of thousands of good players (unlike the public schools that are restricted to their specific area). And if some of these public schools have older families with few high school kids; or limited housing density, it makes it more difficult to field a respectable program year in and year out.
St. Paul and Whittier Christian (private schools that recruit and provide scholarships) should be competing with the likes of Mater Dei, Servite, Orange Lutheran, Loyola, Rancho Santa Margarita, etc. There should not be any comparison with the local high school that draws from such a small area. Whittier Christian and St. Paul should theoretically DOMINATE local schools. You only put 11 on the field at a time. You have access to get the best 11. Local public schools do not have such an advantage.
The Pit is so overrated, it has no effect on quality teams. It might scare the DRL, but not us. I say we drop 50 on the undisciplined Swordsmen.
Does Gil J have to curse? I am sure he can get his point across without that. St. Paul is a catholic school right?? Hypocrite.
Wow! A Cantwell education gets you that kind of grammar. No thanks.
BIG UNK,
WHY ALL THE BASHING ON SP? DID YOU HAVE A BAD EXPERIENCE THERE? .IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOUR JUST JEALOUS. YOUR JUST A BEHIND THE SCENES TYPE OF GUY. ALWAYS BASHING WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE. IT WAS A NICE 4 WEEKS OF NOT SEEING YOUR GARBAGE ON THE BLOG!
WHO ARE YOU? IF YOUR GOING TO TALK CRAP THAN STAND BEHIND YOUR COMMENTS. LET EVERYONE KNOW WHO YOU ARE. IT WILL GIVE YOU THE CREDIBILITY THAT YOUR LOOKING FOR. BECAUSE AS OF RIGHT NOW, EVERYONE THINKS THAT YOU ARE A JOKE MY FRIEND! HAVE SOME BALLS!(IF YOU HAVE ANY)
AS FOR BEING A SUPPORTER OF COACH GONZALEZ, YES WE ARE! I PROUD OF THE FACT THAT HE GIVES HIS ALL EVERYDAY AND NIGHT. IF YOU ONLY KNEW THE HOURS ALL THOSE COACHES PUT IN YOU WOULD'NT BE SUCH A ASS!
AS FOR STATING THE FACTS , SP IS 4-2 THIS YEAR SO FAR. I THINK THATS A SUCCESS. REMEMBER THAT THEY HAVE A TOTAL OF 350 BOYS TO DRAW FROM SO THE ONLY PERSON THATS UNDERACHIEVING IS YOU. TAKE YOUR COMMENTS DOWN THE ROAD, BECAUSE NO ONE HERE THINKS YOUR FUNNY,SMART,CUTE OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOUR LOOKING TO BE.
FINALLY, AS FOR THOSE INNER CIRCLES, THEY MEAN NOTHING. CANT YOU TELL THE WAY THE BOYS PLAY THERE ASS OF ON FRIDAY NIGHTS? ITS A SHAME THAT SOME DIRTY JERK LIKE YOU WOULD WANT TO GET IN THE WAY OF THAT.
GOOD LUCK SP THIS FRIDAY AND EVERYONE AFTER.
hey crespi guy first of all your right as far as being faster, bigger and more talented than us... But let me tell you something you are coming to The Pit expecting to coast through and i can guarantee you this, we are going to hit you like you have never been hit before all night long and we are going to run the ball right down your throat to victory Friday!! So hope you bring a movie to watch on the bus becuase it is a long ride home to Encino after a loss
Did I touch a sensative chord with SP fan.So sorry....NOT! Keep thinking and dreaming of making the playoffs,we'll see if your still gonna feel the same about your coaches at the end of your underachieving season.I expected all the Gonzalez supporters to put their two cents in.Heck isn't that what family supposed to do?Look, I'm just stating what I've seen and whats quietly being said in close circles inside SP.The dirty laundry and coaching staff will be hung out to dry in due time.
------CRESPI GUY---------
We all know you’re friar guy with another screen name. You use the same derogatory statements and sound just as stupid. You are a pathetic human being who obviously has a grudge against St Paul. Your life probably is under- achieved so you have to pretend to be part of a power house football program to feel better about yourself. Do us all a favor and shut up. St Paul is a quality program along with other local teams. I don’t expect St Paul to win against Crespi, but I do expect those boys to play their hearts out like they do week in and week out. Good luck to all schools this week.
Hey big Unk,
You really don't know Paul Camacho. You talk about Paul not playing favorites with the PR Dons. You really don't know him. Do you!! That is all he did with the PR Dons. He only played his favorites. Lucky for us, he will not be doing that at St. Paul.
It is obvious that you really don’t know what you are talking about. Leave Coach Gonzalez alone. He is doing a great job with the boys and the St. Paul football program.
GO ST. PAUL!!!!!
i graduated from santa fe last year so i can tell you why they are horrible this year. NO RECRUITS THIS YEAR. How do you think that got Romeo Pellum last year? they recruited him. How do you think they got Eric Gardley the year before? they recruited him from Long Beach Poly! I can go on and on but plain and simple they are the biggest cheaters in the DRL and it was funny how they ratted on Cal last year when nobody ever ratted on Santa Fe!!! Im glad they are not taking league this year!! Those cocky idiots deserve to lose
If any of you could honestly put cal hi in front of st paul in the area rankings....you need help!
True Blue, "the best team lost that night?". Is that how you guys make yourselves feel better? What a stupid statement.
We are coming to town and are taking no prisoners. I know we are outside the Pico, Whittier, Norwalk perimeter but we can ball. I can't wait for one of the SP midget LB's to have to go one on one with our 6'8" TE. If SP is lucky they win maybe two more games. I love Pete G. he always finds a way to lose.
True Blue you are dreaming, the playing calling was okay at best, problem use your athletes not the st paul alumni kids or trasfers that are not getting it done. There seems to be a pattern here, losing to the tougher schools, not the local pop warner teams. There are reasons coach A was successful, he had his team ready, they believed the best team was out there, and he had loyalty from his players. That being said look for St. Paul to bounce back and represent well by years end.
big unk,
your a big idiot! were you at the game? i dont think so. those boys played really good. play calling was really good also. so wake up. a couple of mistakes and the game is 28-14 st.paul. thats the truth. the best team lost that game. no if ands or buts about it!
BTW, Ronnie Palacios went down late in the third quarter (not the first as reported above)and the game was pretty much settled at that point.
And the late hit by Randy Palacios (#20) of Pioneer was after he attacked the cornerback by punching him while he was on top of him. But Pioneer coaches do not encourage or teach that kind of behavior (Right, Titan Observer? Or coach?)
Hope Ronnie Palacios is ok and makes it back to beat Whittier.
Anyone that claims El Rancho dominated SF is truly delusional. BOTH teams played like crap for most of the game!!! That had to be the most boring high school football game I have ever been to in the first half. I found myself surfing the net on my cell to keep from falling asleep. This years SF team really seems to just think everything will be given to them and ride the on the coattails of the previous teams. Maybe it’s the fault of those previous teams for putting such a large target on you but suck it up, work hard and earn your victories! Everyone should know that if you let an underdog stay in the game it will come back to bite you in the rear and that is exactly what happened to the Chiefs. El Rancho took everything they were given (and them some) and capitalized for the win. El Rancho wanted it……and went out the second half and took it.
CONGRATS to them!!! They showed an extreme amount of class with the victory in the way they stood behind SF as their alma mater was played with their helmets held high. Best of luck to you the remainder of the season. Good things happen to good people so I’m sure you don’t need the luck but it never hurts! 8)
I’m still not sold on “the Ranch is back” but they will definitely be in your face!!!!
just want to say congrats to El Rancho way to play tough, in the end you wanted more, but to say you dominated no, your heart wont that game in the 4th, Chiefs you need to beat Cal can't come out flat on offense again, def. great job but when off. goes 3 and out no time to rest.
play safe GO CHIEFS!
again good game El Rancho
Hey Big Unk, you should change your name to Big A**. Give it up, stop hating on Coach G he did a great job. Did he ask the kids please go out and get some penalties, fumbles, etc.? Dude, quit being such a hater you make yourself sound like a fool. Why don't you call St.Paul and talk to Coach G your such a brave man on the blogs tell him who you are. You probally have and he obviously doesn't care a damm about you. I'm a St. Paul parent and proud of the way the kids played and the coaches coached on Friday night. I just hate jealous haters like you, so grow up you idiot.
Hey SP fans the season is closing pretty fast.Savor those early wins cause its not getting any easier.U might win one or two more if ur lucky.Im not hating on your boys as a matter of fact I believe there is alot of talent overthere but the fact of the matter is the coaching will always cost you the Big One.I didnt even see your game against BA but I can bet The Genius Gonzalez Bros. made more than their share of mistakes.Continuos penalties are a result of terrible coaching just as bad play callling. How many times did it happen against BA.Be honest. You have an excellent D coach too bad hes had to continually pull more weight on his side of the ball.If U guys ever want a real coach look no further than your freshman team.Paul Camacho is a true football genius not to mention a former PR DON legend. He is respected by all his players and plays no favorites. Most of all hes a winner.Oh by the way two of his boys are doing pretty well right now at ER.Aldecoa/Galan
haha...all you teams are smack talkin like if you are gonna go win league...just move out of cal's way
Bottom line there were no refs at Pioneers game Friday... Congrats Cal for your victory. BTW how much did you guys have to pay the refs????????
And to El Rancho CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I THINK ITS VERY CLEAR CAL HASN'T PLAYED ANYONE YET SO LETS NOT GET 2 HAPPY, SANTA FE'S LONG TIME RUN IS OVER BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR JACK,AND AS 4 THE RANCH NOT A CHANCE!!! A FLUKE LIKE THAT CAN ONLY GET YOU SO FAR!!! LA SERNA GO'N ALL THE WAY!!!
The cal-pioneer game was close at half but..cal broke it open in the second half with touhdowns by there TE and their RB's good luck to all teams this year it's gonn abe a battle
EL RANCHO BORN, EL RANCHO DEAD!! i jump on no body wagon! 100% DONS this is coming from a REAL Chief
titan observer,
Sounds like you hate Drew Harris. Remember, jealousy will get you nowhere. Ridiculously wide open receivers? Drew had to find them right? so stay quiet and take the beating like a man. And boy was that a beating. And how about the cheap shot. wow, your coaching staff teaches that? how pathetic.
Spektacular,
Why bother bringing up the past? Your team lost and there. Don't make yourself sound like a sore loser.
Crespi guy,
Corona Centennial. Period. hahahahaha. ruff ruff. talk smack when your team beats a "big dog"
areas top teams (in that order)
La Habra
Cal
St. Paul
La Serna
Congratulations El Rancho on your well deserved victory!
Please make sure that all your "T's" are crossed and your "I's" are dotted, because the cry babies at Santa Fe are going to be looking for a way to win at any cost!!
LOVE THE FACT WE BOTH WON LAST NIGHT!!
Wow, strong education you got there. Yes go ahead and laugh at us all you want. We will be laughing at you just as hard because we ended your streak, don't go crying to CIF now.
The score 40-9 is not a true reflection of Cal High. Don't get me wrong, Cal is a good team and did beat Pioneer soundly in the second half. But if you think that Drew Harris is the reason why Cal won, he could have easily been the reason Cal would have lost would it not have been for #22, #5 on offense and #51 on defense.
2 of the 3 TDs that Drew had were to ridiculously wide open receivers and the other should not have been counted, it touched the ground.
I will admit #51 wrecked havoc on Pioneer's offense while #22 and #5 woke up in the second half and had some great cut backs.
My only question is, does Drew really think he is one of the best players in league? On defense when he would tackle Botello, Botello dragged him, yet Drew would get up and act like he made the play of the game. #51 on the other hand made the big plays, especially the one where he laid a tremendous hit on Botello behind the line of scrimmage.
Also, Palacios did lay a cheap shot on Drew on a point after kick, this is not what Pioneer coaches teach and not what Pioneer players do, Pioneer is not dirty. But a word of advice to other coaches and player in league, pay close attention to all the sh** talking and late hits Drew lays on your any of your players, it might set them off.
Let's not take anything away from Cal though, congratulations on your win. Congratulations go out to La Serna in their victory against Whittier, and El Rancho on their victory over Santa Fe.
Titans: 212!!!
YEA SANTA FE LOST, ITZ ALL GOOD! YOU KANT WIN FOREVER! ITZ KINDA FUNNY HOW ALL YALL TALK MESS WHEN THE LAST 6 YEARS SANTA FE HAS BEEN SMASHIN ON YALL! UNDEFEATED 6 YEARZ STRAIGHT! SANTA FE IS IMPROVING EVERY WEEK SO DONT KOUNT THEM OUT! NO ONE IN THE DRL IS GOING UNDEFEATED THIS YEAR! ITZ GONNA BE EXCITING TO SEE WHOZ STANDING AT THE END! SO EL RANCHO GO AHEAD CELEBRATE HAVE YOUR BIG ORGASIM KUZ YOU ACTUALLY BEAT SANTA FE, BUT WE WILL BE LAUGHING WHEN YALL IZ GETTIN SMASHED ON THURSDAY NITE! GOODLUCK TO THE DRL TEAMZ AND SANTA FE KEEP YOUR HEADS UP YOU WILL DO FINE! GO CHIEFS!
Pioneer played cal tough in the first half then Palacios got hurt then they began to struggle, they probably wont go 0-5 in league this year, they might go 2-3, if they can stay healthy
Moral victories are for losers SP. I know you competed with a D1 team that is 1-4. A loss is a loss. We are coming to town next week. We do not make mistakes like Amat. We are faster, stronger and well coached. After we thump you, your record against division 1 teams will be 0-3. Enough proof that you guys are right where you belong, division 3!. Stay away from the big dogs.
pionerr this and pioneer that...again pioneer played no one good in the pre season...good luck going 0 and 5
Whew!
Cal was impressive. I no longer think that the DRL is a toss up. The race is for 2nd place between Whittier and La Serna.
ER bumping Santa Fe off the throne was a special night for the Dons, but not entirely unexpected; except by those who weren't paying attention. El Rancho's celebration will be short-lived come next Thursday as they will be roped in by La Serna.
The DRL landscape is much more clear after last night.
maybe jack should start thinking of pulling some guys up from jv to get some experience i think its going to be a long year
HAIL TO THE SWORDSMEN CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!! HAHAHA
Campa,
I like how you slanted your column towards St. Paul. You picked wrong and you made sure that your column was full of excuses. It was a great game and the team that made the least mistakes won. You should write how there was like five personal fouls for St. Paul(About average) and how their coaching staff can't control their players. Give credit where credit is due. BE A JOURNALIST!
SANTA FE WHAT??? all you haters! BOO YAH SUCKAS! THE RANCH !
What, Santa Fe's chosen to win over the El Rancho Don's? Yeah right ye of lil faith....dont count our boys out....our entire team has enough heart for the whole Del Rio League, and not nothing anyone on these blogs, Joe or Roger say about the 2007 Varsity El Rancho Don's, we dominated tonight!!! 19-13 EL RANCHO DONS...YEAH BABY!!!!!!
Really impressed with Cal High. #22 Outplayed the rest of Pioneer's Titans. Plus great Cal defense, harassed Palacios all game.
Cal hasn't peaked yet,Del Rio teams best not under-estimate Cal.
the only game worth mentioning is the st. paul vs bishop amat. what a game!
this is going to be one hell of a year for the DRL.
Sweet and simple:
Cal at Pioneer - Pioneer
Whittier at La Serna - Whittier
Santa Fe at El Rancho - El Rancho
Hey Murray!
How come you picked Cal over Pioneer on this blog site but in the paper, you picked Pioneer?
Did you change your mind overnight?
I'm . . .
SF over er
Santa Fe will try and send a message that the DRL still goes through SF. ER is trying to get some respect, better luck next year
St. Paul over Bishop Amat
St. Paul will run and pass all over BA, and that Defense is awasome over at SP
Cal over Pioneer
This one will be a close shootout. Winner is the team that controls the clock
La Serna over Whittier
This one will be high scoring, game will come down to turnovers and defense if any.
La Habra over Troy
I like Troy and Coleman but La Habra is on a mission this year
I agree with your picks, although Troy vs. La Habra “Can it get any better”…. I will give the edge to Troy. These boys are hungry, flying off the ball and hitting everything and anything they can. La Habra beware…
St. Paul vs. Bishop Amat, this game is looking to be a great mach up. You always throw the records out the window for this classic rivalry game. Amat needs to bring their “A” tonight; if not P. Lopez and SP Running attack will dominate once again…
HS Football Fan let me know what you think?
st. paul vs amat is going to be the game 2 watch this week. Many people are talking about how St. Paul isnt even that good well let me tell you people why dont you stop with that talking. Show up and play a game. Some one has to think that they are tough enough to step to the challenge (maybe cal hi, la serna or whittier. Santa Fe naw.) well before you speak men why dont you show up 2 a game and see how real football is played. It aint no division 7 ball either.
st paul vs amat should be a very close game.
with haynes out again ,garcia & de dios are going to have to pick it up.lopez is going need a good game.the defense is what's going to keep us in the game.
st. paul 28 amat 24
GO ST. PAUL!!!!
Hey Roger, Your picks for Troy & La Habra are not right I don't think Schurr is on that schedule. Lets see who Campa picks.
You pick La Serna over Whittier. Get real! Whittier is going to win AGAIN!!!! The only reason that La Serna gets noticed during the preseason, is that they play weak teams they know they can beat. The same goes for Pioneer. Watch out DRL, Whittier is very dominating this year. Let the games begin.
