These boys work their hearts out on the field and all you can do is talk about the transfers and the test scores. Let it go!!! All us parents always want what is best for our children, and sending them to a private is a lot better than sending them to public school. The Blog from “NFLALUM” says it the best. I think what it comes down to is that you wish your children could attend a private school. Maybe you wanted to attend a private school and your parents just could not afford it. Don’t be hater, relax and enjoy on how good our local teams are doing.

Regardless of what you post on here as you claim to know all the API scores and this and that. Answer me this, why do most public school teachers send their children to parochial schools? The reason being is that the state standard for getting credentialed doesnt make you a better teacher it is just taking the cbest, in order to start a credentialing program, lab hours, cset, yadayadayada. Oh the answer to the question is not very many, why is that? We deal with kids that are into other things other than that of going to class and getting to college. All you people see is the Friday night games but not the enviroment that these kids deal with day to day. What can parochial schools provide kids with? A better enviroment and a place where the students sitting next to you have the same goal to attend college. You dont have to worry if the person in the next seat is a tagbanger or person snorting lines next to you. They way some of you attack these kids on the board for decisions they and their parents made is crazy. Let them enjoy their highschool years, the SP team is having a good season stop ruining it by bashing the kids and the school. As for Haynes he missed two days and practiced Wednesday and Thursday, so seriously if you dont know the facts dont come on here and fabricate things you dont know anything about. Flores is hurt not injured if you were any kind of a football player you would know that. Bruised ribs are different from broken ribs, you need to stop the bickering. I think I know who Hypocrite is he is the mom from Little Giants he sends his kids to practice in bubble wrap. LOL All of you people stop bashing the school, it is a great place to get an education and to be part of a family enviroment. It isnt for everyone especially old SP alumni that received an education and are too good to send their kids there. And even to you guys great job on making it financially and best of luck to your children. Life is too short to sit here and rot yourselves away typing all the madness you do. Lets all remember if it wasnt for that school none of us would even know each other why should we deprive the future swordsmen of all the experiences we had at SP and I mean outside of football.

Let the SP players enjoy their winning and focus on Saturday game. All these transfers are happy and enjoying St. Paul. They are there because they want to be there. You don’t know if tuition is paid by their parents or whoever. What difference does it make? NONE!!!

Ok:

Haynes and Flores were starting at their respective high schools last year. Haynes was starting at Diamond Ranch and Flores at Santa Fe. Encinas was being groomed for Varsity QB and already played Varsity baseball for Santa Fe. THEN each one of them transfers to SP. Did they pay their own tuition?

Haynes sat first half of second round CIF game--one SP supporter said it was because he didn't dress ALL WEEK. What respectable program would allow a player to play AT ALL if he didn't dress ALL WEEK. Exactly--but you needed him to win, so he played. If it's because of his "recruiting opportunities", then wouldn't recruiters care if he is not dressing all week before a playoff game?

Flores is injured, plain and simple. But he's not going to let that stop him from playing in the playoffs--but the coaching staff should. He's risking serious injury and not capable of making a good decision because he is focused on winning.

AND I said "last time I checked" test scores were similiar to Pioneer's. Maybe they went up a few points--BUT parochial schools DO NOT have the same educational standards for teachers in public schools. They are not required to have the same educational training--it is less.

Did that answer all of your concerns?

And I know for a fact he was cleared. But above and beyond that, Have you seen this kid play? You can't stop him. To much desire and the will to win is far greater then a supposed broken rib. Your "great tradition" in football is that you recruit talented players who are already in another HS program (Haynes, Flores, Encinas, etc.) and have your boosters pay for their tuition and extras.

Then you won't sit them out for disciplinary reasons because you need them to win (Haynes--by one SP supporter's admission).

AND your coaches play a kid with broken ribs because you need him to win (Flores has broken ribs and the potential for serious injury and shouldn't play for six weeks--one of your supporters denies this fact but unfortunately, it's true).

AND the last time I checked your state test scores compared with Pioneer High School (sorry, Pioneer!), so it can't be for the quality education when your teachers aren't even required to meet the state standards in teaching.

BUT yeah, it's semi-finals for us, too!

All of area football fans should be pleased that the Whittier area still has team in the playoffs. In the Southeast, an area team will in the finals regardless who wins.

I'm taking La Habra over Cal Hi as La Habra has a lot to prove to the OC and they want to make up for the loss to Schurr last year.

I'm taking Schurr in the other semi. They've gotten no respect this year and I think they want it more.

Wish I could see the LH-CalHi game but I'm going to be down in Cerritos watching SP taking on Gahr.

SP had a huge win last week. All year this team and coaches have had to endure the naysayers 9especially the WDN) and the haters. But we are still in it. Gahr will have their hands full with our defense and Aubrey.

St. Paul faithful...ignore the haters here. We know what SP is all about. We'got to fill Gahr's house on Saturday and be loud and proud!!

Well look who is in the playoffs still? I beleive the right teams are still in. Good luck to all kids stay healthy and enjoy. There are so many people who are home and not playing. Most of all go St. Paul you pulled a big one off on Friday.

SP wins! Tough defense prevails. As for the QB situation at SP, Lopez is holding his own and I know Canales can come in at any time and take control of the team in a positive way. The Santa Fe transfer is a good athlete and made a good decision in changing his position to wide receiver. As for the South Hills transfer I watched him in a JV game this year and is pretty good but needs to work on his footwork. He is a bit too slow for varsity. Maybe a change to tight end would benefit the team next year. Both of these guys would start at any public school in the area. As for Aldecoa coming back to SP, that would be great but he better pack a better attitude if he does because these coaches don't kiss your butt just because you can play. It's all about the TEAM. Just ask Grigby or Aubry Haynes who sat out almost 3 quarters in the Culver City game because he didn't suit up for practice all week. Way to go SP coaches you could really tell from the stands you put the kids in a position to win with your game plan. Shut down UCLA bound receiver and have the other 10 players try to beat you. Next week, Gahr HS and its 4,000 yard passing QB. Get started on how to stop him. Way to go SP!

Perhaps you should get all the facts before you go spouting off. La Habra said no because their schedule is already set. We have scheduled Los Alamitos and San Clemente for the next two years. Why should we play your "out of our area" team when we can play PAC 5 teams that would help with our ratings in Orange County where we are located. The Daily News only gives us cursory coverage because our school has some Whittier kids that attend there. We just spanked SGV and do you think that there will be more that a paragraph or two about the game? No, all of the press will be about Cal Hi and how they will do against us. Well thats OK by the boys we will continue to fly under the radar of both the Daily News and the OC Register. We will just keep winning until we have a ring. I suspect that Coach Mazzotta didn't have any concern playing SP because if you are a real powerhouse then he would welcome the chance to make his team better by playing top ranked schools. We have nothing to fear from St Paul and I suspect that you would have more to lose by losing to a D7 (former D9) public schoold that would make you look bad. They probably only called when they knew that our schedule was filled and had no room so you could make it look good. If you want to talk smack then you need to back it up. Put a ring on your finger and then you can spout off.

Hey Tough Defense, In regards to the QB's you haven't been watching the games if you think that Canales is the better of the two. You haven't seen the better of the two, he still on the bench and hasn't taken a Varsity snap yet. At least not in a game situation but has during practice and has proven to be the better. You can choose either of the QBs on the bench both who have transferred and have not taken a snap in a varsity game. Go out to a Wednesday night practice and you'll see what these kids have to offer. They have more skills and more knowledge of the game than the two you are referring to. We have heard that they would of both been starting Varsity QBs at their old high schools. So playoffs or not, why not start your best and look towards your bench.

You might have a point. Maybe La Habra's coach is afraid, and does not want to schedule St. Paul.

I heard he's a St. Paul alumni. Maybe he knows something, we don't know.

Anyhow, I was able to watch St. Paul play Servite in week 0. Looks like St. Paul has turned it around and is playing better defense.

I have also seen La Habra play. They are very well coached. No panic on the sidelines. Sound offense, defense and special teams. Oh, and physical too.

I have to agree with you! No area team would be able to compete with that SP defense. The way they have been so dominate in these last week is truely amazing.
How good is Servite? Wow.
Devaugh Egans, how can you say that they would be .500? For one, SP would kill ,kill, kill and kill again Whittier everytime they played. For you info, its the coaches who make the schedule not the kids. And by the way, I saw Whittier this year and was not impressed. SP would blow them out of the water.

I hope St. Paul the best tomorrow, the challenge is against the defense with Culver Cities high scoring offense. They have been getting it done all year, I hope they have it in them to continue, their coordinator on defense is tops. The question is why keep starting the sophmore QB when Canales is the better leader, the team can't afford to have a QB that is not willing to take a hit or lead the team. Regardless, good luck to the boys and look to use the best players on both sides, all the top teams do. One final note, good luck to all the area teams that are still in the hunt.

Friday's game against Alhambra was awesome. Our players did what the came to do, even if it was a come from behind win. They all played as a team and it showed.
Good Luck this coming round guys, play to win. Even though we are 1600 miles away for the holiday, we will be there in spirit and calling in at Fullerton to get updates!

Until then remain behind your computer screen wishing you had your high school days back and would of transferred to St. Paul. I back up St. Paul, La Habra, Cantwell, and Schurr because this blog does not. I guarantee a tournament with these guys and your drl guys and the final four will be those teams up there. Even Cantwell. Your league is a joke. Year in and year out. Your League champ does what in the playoffs? Exactly...NOTHING!

Hey Area Fan want to let u know that SP called La Habra and La Habra said no. And for DeVaughn Egans ER is 0-2 against SP with Pioneer next year experiencing the same fate as ER did this year, so that would make Del Rio teams 0-2 against SP. I just want to say that the truth is that SP has called La Habra and Santa Fe to play for the last few years and called La Habra just a week ago and as usual they said no to SP!!! So thanks to Division 6 La Habra and Santa Fe being scared of SP, SP will have to setttle for the big boys as usual, Division 1 St. John Bosco next year... So GO SWORDSMEN!!!!! And get ready for the semi finals next week after you beat the #1 seed in the division Culver City!!

I have attended every SP game this year and I am very proud of these boys. Every team is bigger, faster and more natrually talented than SP but these boys fight, claw and never give up. I hope for a big win this week but I am a little worried about Culver City. I checked out the Calhi website and watched the highlight recruiting videos on the future UCLA receiver/db #4 and the highly recruited QB. SP has had trouble against the westcoast shotgun offense this year. IE: Servite,Crespi,and Alemany. (Not Amat, we dominated them for 4 quarters).So I hope SP is prepared. Im sure they are for their football program is the most serious and hardest working in the area. Good luck SP. Show what you can do. BEAT UNDEFEATED CULVERCITY!!!

I AGREE WITH THE BLOGGER THAT SAID IT STRAIGHT, "LET ATHLETES STAY IN THEIR HOME AREA." I CAN TELL YOU THIS, THIS MAKES UPSETS POSSIBLE. LIKE SOUTH EL MONTE UPSETTING LA HABRA (BECAUSE THEY WILL BEAT CALL, EASILY).

The La Habra coach may choose to schedule Pac-5 Teams: Sunset or South Coast League powers such as Los Al, Edison, Fountain Valley, San Clemente, etc.

"Tough Defense" - just to let you know coach Smolin scheduled the game against St. Paul, who proved to be dominate, but all the parents were so worried about St. paul size, that some parents took their kid out of the school and transferred them elsewhere! If the parents aren't mentally tough against a superior opponent, then how do you schedule tough teams early? i agree the some of the opponents were push overs, but thats what the school is used to playing. As for my son I want him to play D1, he is on his way, even playing at Cantwell, he has been noticed. but I also want him to make his team mates better also.

I was planning on subscribing to your news paper. However, I am now having second thoughts. Why would I, subscribe to your paper when you put very little effort in reporting about St. Paul sports and its athletes? Why is that? Is it not your job to cover all highs schools in your area? Very well put…. this is my first year as a SP Parent, but I’ve been and SP supporter for at least 15 years. I’ve had two bothers play at St. Paul, but because of financial reasons I was not giving the opportunity to go there. This year has been a blessing for my family; I have never seen so many Alumni at each and every game. I know everyone has the best interest in the team at heart. I feel we do not have to answer to anyone ultimately it’s the parent’s decision to make an improvement in their children’s education and that is why my son is now a SWORDSMEN…
ST. Paul players… Friday night leave everything on the field and play like there is something left to prove…

What talent are you talking about? Have you seen the talent at SP? It's very average at best, very thin! For you to try and give your opinion is down right silly. It's painfully clear that you cannot judge talent. Besides Cantwell and El Rancho, St.Paul has been on the short side of talent for every game. Every team they have played has been bigger , stronger ,faster and have had better athletes.So every time they have won this year its a great combo of coaching and execution by the players.
I really don't feel that your bashing but lets get the facts straight! Perfect example, #48 for SP has come up big all year. Timely runs that have put the swordman in the lead or scoring position. #23 a great back with talent but as a consistant threat? I don't think so. I wish people could really understand football. I played at a division 1 program and started for 3 years. I'm not saying that i know everything, but i do know talent and execution when I see it. I'm really proud of the job that the coaches are trying to do. Because you can only TRY!
Good luck Friday night and remember that you don't play for the parents or ALUMNI! You play for eachother first and SP second. Everyone else does not matter.

Don't call out any Del Rio league team especially WHITTIER because it's not the kids that don't waunt to play St. Paul it's at a higher level than that! If you feel St. Paul can beat every school in the area then have them set up that games and I'll tell you this for sure. NOT 1 DEL RIO LEAGUE TEAM WILL BACK DOWN FROM A CHALLENGE FROM ST. PAUL so enjoy your team being in the Play Off's and stop trying to call out the area schools! I'll tell you this start with the strongest team first and end with the weakest team and I bet St. Paul would only be 500. once they are done.

Congratulations to the SP defense and the defensives coaches, for great job against Quartz Hill! You were well prepared. Also congrats to Aubrey #23 and the offensive line for his 161 tough yards on 31 carries. A repeat performance by Defense would be great against Culver City. Plus I hope the offense steps up to the challenge, because we need both sides of the ball to do well,in order to win. Go St. Paul can't wait for the game.

What's the status on Molina? Will he play on friday night? I read the paper and it said he had keft the game with a knee injury.

About time someone said it! I to have sat and watch too many loses in the playoffs. The lost in 94, 4th and 1 with 4 seconds left at the inch line in the Semifinals still burns to this day! Everyone knew what play was coming... my gosh the entire DEFENSE was cramming the middle! and of course he called it... lost the game!

Im for new blood at Santa Fe... need to get someone younger and that knows how to win more then just a league title! Yeah winning league is good... but winning State is even sweeter! Im tired of first round and be out stuff... or Semifinals and be out stuff...

SP fans/parents/alumnus, I have been following SP football for the last 10 years. I attended a private school in the area & played sports as well. I have not earned the right to call myself a "coach" but I do know the game. I am very impressed with what the coaches have done with the program these last 2 years & speaking with the "right" people (a.k.a.) "players" it was confirmed! The only people you affect with your harsh words on these blogs & in the stands are the young men that perform for you every Friday night! We are all grown men who do not waste valuable time on "empty" criticism but the kids are young adults. You all have the right to speak your peace & so do I. If you think X's & O's are all that is involved in the game your wrong! No one knows the talent of each individual on that playing field better than their own "coaches". Whether your a Senior or Sophomore does NOT apply you should play if you KNOW the plays! Wake up & face reality life is not about shortcuts! Transfers you question...so WHAT who would NOT want to go and play for a class act program & the "coach" of the year? Packages you question...go to the source and ask the head coach or any administrative official at the school if that is true. My son belongs to the El Rancho district & I will NOT have him settle at the ranch! GET A COUPLE OF COME BACK PATTERNS TO THE WR'S GOING TO SET UP THE DEEP BALL. DO NOT COST THE TEAM 1 MORE YARD IN COACHING PENALTIES BECAUSE YOU KNOW IT CAN HURT IN A CLOSE MATCH.
MANY BELIEVE IN THIS TEAM AND KNOW HOW HARD THE YOUNG MEN PLAYING & COACHING STAFF WORKS. IT'S WEEK 12 AND YOU CAN MAKE IT PAST CCHS THIS WEEK INTO THE NEXT.

Everyone talks about how St. Paul needs transfer players to perform at a high level and how we go to each city and take their best players from them. Please remember all these kids are under age and need a parent or guardian to file proper paperwork with each school they attend. Did you ever think that the parents want a better education for their sons or daughters? Over 98% percent of all St. Paul students came from a Catholic Elementary/Jr. HS. So of course you’re going to look first at all Catholic High school before you commit to a public education. Winning is not everything a good moral and respectful student will always prevail….

too bad Cal's "young men" would more than likely have to face La Habra in semi-finals and is just short of the CIF championship game...the Southeast Division is there for La Habra to take only they can beat themselves and this team is very well-coached and had too many seniors to let that happen.

I would like to once again recognize the inability of Santa Fe to win in the playoff's. I as a chief fan will not sit here and be satisfied with the past season.
When will somebody call for a new head coach. We need someone who will get us a championship once and for all! I have been to many playoff games and watched to chief's fold like a banquet table from the Home Depot.
Please name a stadium after the head coach and bring in someone new and young to keep up with the competition.

I think some of these schools should start giving drug tests to these kids. They do it in college and the pros, so lets not turn a blind eye to some important issues. But I know most, if not all the teams have drug use going on...

Just a little note for Cal....go into this game ready to fight for what's yours. Don't let So El Monte come into your house and dominate. Play as a team and win big. I know you can go all the way and win. You boys (or should I say young men), have what it takes to be CIF champs.

Well I agree st paul is starting to recruit all of the best kids anywhere why else would they have been at the san gabriel valley junior all american super bowl but then again I thought recruiting wasn't allowed in high school....... Bottom line let the kids play where they belong look at el rancho and cal high this year they won a lot of games with home grown talent who tested the waters other places but went back home even la mirada has felt the sting of st paul's recruiting...... Hey who knows if st paul just coached their kids harder and recruited less maybe they would get backl to the way they used to be and beat servite again....... well good luck st paul and hopefully ur transfers from santa fe, diamond ranch, and gahr, and any of the other schools pays off

Schurr High School is always doubted. Week in week out there talked about and are picked to lose. I guess this year is just gonna have to be another statement, again...What else do the Spartans have to do?

Dont knock the SP tranfers, two TRANSFERS lead the team on both sides of the ball. RB #23Aubrey Haynes carries this team on offense, and LB #32 David Flores leads the defense, they are tranfers that EARNED their spot.

Here’s the big Question all SP fans are dying to know...will the Whittier Daily News be covering the St. Paul game this week. As you are aware, all of the other local teams have been sent packing. No disrespect to the local teams, all of your hard work paid off.... to a point…Only the strong survives….

St. Paul's defense was awesome, the key to their success relies on them dominating. As for their offense, let's say it's weak at best, are they really using their best athletes? Coach is looking for next year, why else would he use underclassman that have no reason playing when you have all those kids that have been prepared for the last several years? There are many who believe the traditions St. Paul built through the years no longer apply, again why would you allow so many transfers come in and replace kids who have been here as freshman? Were they promised for transferring they would play, are coaches coming as a package with kids, are you just bring anyone in for the sake of winning? Regardless, think about what you are sending as a message to your current kids, future ones, and the supporting parents. I hope you aren't paying for these trasfers because your investment has gone bust!

Athletic Director Smolin did a poor job of scheduling too many easy opponents for Cantwell during the practice season. The Cardinals have talent, but lack the mental toughness needed to compete at the next level.
Time for a new coach.
