It looks like Ameriie is switching it up with her latest single, Outside Your Body! Ameriie's returning to her Korean roots in her song, fusing rhythm & blues with Korean pop. This intergalactic song sounds amazing on my phone and I can't wait for the video to be released.
Katy Perry's songs from her album Teenage Dream are still great to listen to. I will always have California Gurls in my song collection. The best portion the song is definitely the music video, since it's really funny. The Dogg looks dapper while Katy Perry seems like an angel!

Yea Jacob, I agree I wouldn't change that all area team. That's the real deal right there. I don't think nobody else should replace that starting five. There is no point guard that does as much as Corona. Cole is an all around guy and is very hard to stop. Harris puts up some great numbers this year. Sach is just unbelievable and Williams is player of the year and He's barely a junior.

Yo, Jacob,
Not a bad starting five. Good job.
Jacob said:
Well lets see 1st team all area. Mvp of the area Derrick Williams. Best post player in the area. Gets rebounds, blocks, and scores. This guy gots it all. Drew Harris should be the Power Foward. Plays like a guard which is an advantage to him because people are much slower than him. He can make threes, dish out assists, rebound and score. Next I'll have to go with Jordan Sach. This guy made all area last year and this year he's even better. Averaging around 20 points a game and still dishes out some assists. This kid can play. For shooting guard I'll go with Maurice Cole. This guy is quick and will break people's ankles. He lights up the court and drops some sick passes. Averaging 16 points a game and 3 assists. He is the best guard in the area. If u play too close he'll just blow past you, if you give him space he'll juss make the shots all day. For point guard it should be Frank Corona. He is the best point guard in the area leading with 106 assists while still dropping 11 points a game. This guy rebounds makes some awesome passes and scores. And don't forget about his defense this guy can lock people up.

Maurice Cole and Frank Corona should make 1st team All Area, Best 1-2 punch out there in the area. Derrick Williams MVP hands down. Jordan Sach and Drew Harris. Harris shouldn't be on there because of his attitude but he deserves it with the numbers he put up this year. Andrew Torres another Candidate but he should probably be on 2nd team. I think pretty much everyone will agree with me on the 1st team though.
Mike said:
Cole and Corona should be on first team all area team because they are probably the best 1-2 punch in the area. They lead their team from being down by 16 points at halftime to a victory to become League Champions as well as Cal High. Drew Harris has done really good in League but i doubt he'll get MVP because none of the coaches will vote for him. Maurice Cole will probably get it though. He had 27 points on Friday in a impressive come from behind victory.

check max preps all you want he only had two thres i was at the game the announcer even stated he had 6. max preps is self reported so that prove in accuracy, harris overrated he is a big guard he is not a post player he just happens to be bigger than the people who guard him, he will get shut down again by crosby tonight
BASKETBALL fan said:

Ok, Harris actually scored 8 points vs. Pioneer (he hit a couple of 3s and one jumper) and it was his only single digit game in league. Check maxpreps.
So by your logic, then Palomino isn't the best because he scored 8 vs. Santa Fe this week and in the first La Serna game.
Harris and Palomino work together--as a team and are trying to win league. But Harris tops the stats on the team. Palomino will lead the team AND league next year--without a doubt!!
And for fan of the game, Harris was the 2nd or 3rd leading scorer (Whittier didn't post stats so Kim's totals were unknown) and the top rebounder last year.
I thought these comments were about DRL Most Valuable Player, not Miss Congeniality.

If drew gets shut down by pioneer again on friday and santa fe wins then harris will not win mvp beacause leading your team to 2nd place means nothing and an mvp gets shut down by no team... example harris 6 points vs pioneer at cal in a loss, if this happens again this time on the road then kiss the mvp award goodbye and seriously harris is not the best player on his team timmy is

Come one, you saw the game, right? The two best teams in the league played and you know who should be the MVP?
If Drew Harris doesn't get DRL MVP then the award means nothing. Harris had 28 points and 20 rebounds and has playing solidly all league and season long.
Seriously, stop hating. Corona and Cole are good players but not MVPs of the league. And Casillas was your top man in the big game last night.
drl fan said:
If any coaches in the Del Rio League come on this website i want you to read this please!!! Santa Fe is currently tied for 1st in league with Cal Hi, but even if Cal Hi does take league Drew Harris will not get league MVP due to his attitude. So i think the MVP should go to Frank Corona. In LEAGUE GAMES, he is leading his team in scoring, assists, and either first or second in steals, and he is also a good rebounder. I know in the whole season Maurice Cole is leading the team in scoring, BUT it is the league games that matter most. Please take Frank into consideration for league MVP

hey DRL follower, who's your pick for 1st team all area?
DRL Follower said:
Whether your hating on the skills of the players of the Del Rio League or your praising them. Either way your still talking about them, so they must be doing something right. Now there's no doubt about it, Maurice Cole is the best guard in the area, if not the best player. Frank Corona is good, but he's one-dimensional. Them two are the best one two punch in the area. There's a lot of talk about Michael Crosby, but look at the team he plays for. He's the best post player on an underachieving team. He's nothing compared to Derrick Williams who is seemingly a monster in the paint.

oh and forgot anyone can copy and paste i didnt write on that other website but obviously someone named stat man agrees with me enough to post it there

well its a shame because montebello lost to schuur twice in league and Santa Fe lost to them because they played really horrible that game. You say the Del rio league is WEAk but yet Montebello lost to Pioneer which is one of the worst teams in the league. Santa fe also placed in Second for the Alhambra tournament. Not sure where Montebello place and i will say it again, COLE is better then any guard in the Almount League, hows that rvr.

So you write under two different names (the exact same blog was on the DRL Sports website but with "stat man" name) just to insult Harris. It's hard to take your opinions seriously when you are obviously just against him.
But honestly, Harris is "scared" to go against crosby?!? Harris played against the 6'8" and 6'7" players from El Segundo who totally outweighed him and stopped their game.
Yeah, he had 0 points in the paint because he was playing on the wing. Harris is usually double and triple teamed in league and he gives back the ball. I don't think crosby gets the respect to be double teamed.
Fan of the game said:
Yeah the DRL is pretty weak this year. Last year was way better when Ed kim, Ricky Kamayatsu, Jaycob Camacho, Eddie Zoyzoya, Robert Talamantes, and Ruben Snachez were in the league. This year is HORRIBLE!!!! There are no good players thats why Maurice and Drew are doing good
fan_from_afar said:
Hey the guy that wants to call me out check your facts before you look stupid.
Let me show you first you go to max preps you click on league stats and you will find this.........
Crosby 15.6ppg 13.0 rebs 1.3 steals
Harris 14.6 8.4rebs
2.4 steals
Sorry to say it but crosby is better and i was at the game harris played outside because he was scared he cant back down the heavier crosby like he can everyone else. Same thing will happen again friday and when it does that should seal the deal for crosby and firt team all league over harris.
Mr murray please post this and you were at the game you saw it I saw it the whole gym saw it harris zero points in the paint against phs and crosby outplayed him the league stats show it.
Anyone wanna challenge me go ahead but the numbers speak for themselves dont be fooled by preseason numbers because the opponents are not comparable league is the ultimate factor and crosby has better numbers as well as the head to head lead. He should be first team all league.
oh and cole is the mvp sorry cal hi but he led his team to a title.

You stated your pick for All Area as "C-Michael Crosby (PHS)- best numbers at big man better than drew sorry cal and outplayed harris one on one"
Did you see the game? Harris was on the wing (something that drives us Cal fans crazy). Crosby didn't even play him one-on-one.
And Harris got two fouls helping on defense against their guards.
Crosby doesn't have the best numbers for a big man. Go on maxpreps.com and see who leads in scoring, rebounds, blocks, and steals over him: yeah, it's Harris.
You can talk about his attitude, but you can't argue his numbers. Harris is the best player in the league, but Derrick Williams is the best player in the area.

i will say it again cole from sf is GOOD not great. sf has lost twice to the oilers of montebello they lost to schurr. sf is winning now because there leauge is weak the almont leauge is a bit better than the drl. there is a guard at alhambra name is allen is better than cole they went head to head allen looked better to me he is only a junior hows that taron

if u make the argument to flop crosby with harris than i would flip saldana with palomino but thats just me your thoughts...?

Del Rio League might have gone down in competetion but there are still some great players. Montebello isn't even in first place in their league. The Almount League is even weaker then the Del Rio League and you say Santa Fe's point guard is average, he's better than any guard in your league. Too bad Santa Fe doesn't play Montebello again cuz Santa Fe improved a lot since the beginning of the season
As a coach I notice the ALL around play. what it takes to give a team a spark. What it takes to be a leader a play maker. I am EXTREMELY impressed with the play of Santa Fe's Frank Corona. the kid can ball it up!! Speed, excellent ball handler and passer. Also one of the teams BEST rebounders. This kid BETTER make 1st TEAM ALL AREA. Unlike Maurice, Drew and other good players the kid is CLASSY. humble and has a heart of gold. We need more student athletes like Frank Corona. I love to watch him light up the court and break ankles. The kid is "SPECIAL"

Roger how could you have santa fe ranked higher than the oilers of montebello. the oilers beat santa fe twice this year santa fe very over rated. there point guard is good not great the kid from lm derrick williams poy hands down. the oilers are the most improved team by far go oilers the drl leauge is WEAK

Maurice cole should make the all-area team, he's avergaing 17 a game. Derrick should get MVP, Drew Harris is really good but his attitude will keep him from winning MVP. Jordan Sach is a great player and Frank Corona is quick, gots handles, gets his teamates involved and scores when he needs to.

- Drew Harris
- Jordan Sach
- Maurice Cole
- Frank Corona

Yea frank corona is pretty decent, he's very unselfish and he scores as well. I believe he had 23 points against whittier. He has a total of 106 assists on the season and is averaging 11 points a game. He's second on steals and first with assists in the del rio league. I think him and maurice should be considered for all area. I think drew harris and Timmy Polomino are great players too. With the way Derrick williams is playing right now, I think there is no doubt that he said get all area mvp.

Hey Murray or Campa, you guys should really consider Frank Corona from Santa Fe on your all area team. He is the best player on Santa Fe. This kid is leading the team in assists and second in scoring and he is very unselfish.

Mr. Murray, why would you go to the Cal Hi and La Serna girls basketball game instead of the Whittier and Santa Fe game. You missed a good one. Santa Fe won at the buzzer to end Whittier's long winning streak.

As a girls basketball fan, i cant agree more that coach pittman from whittier has done an excellent job. If they win league He definatly deserves a strong consideration for coach of the year... The team is really good.. the amico twins are fun to watch.

if u say drew harris is top talent.. doubt it because that young kid has attitude problems.... vs pioner he only had 6 points. he was stopped by crosby.. oh and i watched the game vs santa fe the 6'5" senior #32 was in his head.. so the way to beat him is by getting in his head.he droped i believe... 3 points in 3rd qtr. yeah he might have dropped 19 -20 points but he cant handle the real deal.. i can see cal hi losing in the playoffs

Last years player of the year could of gone to Taylor Siemens or Jaycob Camacho but obviously it went to Taylor. Taylor had the better team and averaged more rebounds and assists and Jaycob averaged more points and in head to head competition Jaycob outscored Taylor.

I may be a bit biased because I coached with him for five years, but there's really no question that Willie Pittman is this year's girls coach of the year. I know this is a POY blog, and I'd put the Amico twins up against any girl in the area play wise, but I think the time's come for Willie to be recognized for the job he's done returning the program at Whittier to the top of the Del Rio League.

I guess you didn't attend many of LM's game last year. Especially the one @ Artesia when neither Story, Harden, nor Sidney could stop Taylor. Best part about it, was during the game when Harden & Story were taking trash to Siemens he let em know that basketball wasn't even his best sport!!!
Who would of been your POY last year ...?

drew harris bad attitude would lose my vote for all area and cal hi will finish 3rd at best in the del rio they will lose two or 3 in the second round***
like it was said befor palomino is a better player acosta from la serna hasnt done a thing this year and has just as bad an attitude.....
i hate santa fe but i must admit he has done a good job leading his team and he would get my vote thus far as del rio league player of the year, but watch out for the juniors palomino-cal
saldana-pioneer
salcedo-el rancho
these guys can make a second half push for postseason accolades
***** watch for cal to slide with 4 road games in the second half and pioneer to climb with 4 home games in the second round this can play havoc with the standings and potential tie breakers

I have seen Drew Harris play and this kid is very talened, BUT there is one huge problem with him and that is that he has an attitude problem. He should make 1st team all area though
Derrick is hands down player of the year because I have seen him play too
Never seen Jordan Sachs play, but heard alot of good things about him
Maurice Cole is pretty good, but he does shoot too much and yes Santa Fe is 5-0 but they can easily go 0-5 in the next round

Sorry but I have to agree with Basketball Fan about posting articles of teams that have lost. True let's be fair what about the team's that have a winning record. We have good talent and yet not one article about S.F's games. Give our boy's credit they deserve it!

Regarding Drew Harris on All Area--He's second in league in scoring (16.1 per game average), he leads in rebounds and blocks, in top three for steals, and the top 10 for assists and 3FGs.
So the numbers speak for themselves.
And Derrick Williams is the real deal.
Maurice Coles was not impressive but is definitely solid.
Haven't seen Jordan Sach play or even seen too many box scores on La Habra [and I'm not complaining about that :)] so I can't comment on him.
The only real player out of LS is Mike Acosta; except he's still fighting his knee injury, otherwise we would be writing about him.

Excuse me Highlander??? Wasn't Moreno who was sitting on the bench at the end of the game? Wasn't it Williams that fouled him out of the game? And on that night the refs swallowed there whistle the whole first half, and was letting Moreno get away with alot down low. But second half, refs finally opened their eyes and what happened to Moreno? I believe Williams went to line 11 times in the second half.
Last I checked, blocking shots was still part of defense, and Williams can't help showing lil intrest against lesser talent. Last year during LM's cif run, Williams matched up against Lawndale,& SJB best and not to mention Garribay and Derozan from Compton.

Drew Harris has done really good in League but i doubt he'll get MVP because none of the coaches will vote for him. Maurice Cole will probably get it though. He had 27 points on Friday in a impressive come from behind victory.
check max preps all you want he only had two thres i was at the game the announcer even stated he had 6. max preps is self reported so that prove in accuracy, harris overrated he is a big guard he is not a post player he just happens to be bigger than the people who guard him, he will get shut down again by crosby tonight
fan:
BASKETBALL fan:
Yeah I did see the game, and Drew is a good player, but he wont get votes because of his attitude. I guarantee that
1st Team All Area
C Derrick Williams- 19.1 ppg, 3.3 blks, 9.7 reb,
SF Jordan Sach- 22.4 ppg, 5.5 reb, 2.8 steals, 3.6 assists
PF Drew Harris- 16.1 ppg, 9.4 reb, 2.3 steals,
SG Maurice Cole- 15.0 ppg, 7.9 reb, 3.0 steals, 3.4 assists
PG Frank Corona- 14.6 ppg, 7.4 reb, 2.8 steals, 4.2 assists
If drew gets shut down by pioneer again on friday and santa fe wins then harris will not win mvp beacause leading your team to 2nd place means nothing and an mvp gets shut down by no team... example harris 6 points vs pioneer at cal in a loss, if this happens again this time on the road then kiss the mvp award goodbye and seriously harris is not the best player on his team timmy is
drl fan:
Come one, you saw the game, right? The two best teams in the league played and you know who should be the MVP?
If Drew Harris doesn't get DRL MVP then the award means nothing. Harris had 28 points and 20 rebounds and has playing solidly all league and season long.
Seriously, stop hating. Corona and Cole are good players but not MVPs of the league. And Casillas was your top man in the big game last night.
1st Team ALL Area
Drew Harris
Derrick Williams
Jordan Sach
Maurice Cole
Frank Corona
hey DRL follower, who's your pick for 1st team all area?
Not sure where Montebello place and i will say it again, COLE is better then any guard in the Almount League, hows that rvr.
fan_from_afar=stat man:
There are no good players thats why Maurice and Drew are doing good
Hey the guy that wants to call me out check your facts before you look stupid.
He should be first team all league.
oh and cole is the mvp sorry cal hi but he led his team to a title.
fan_from_afar:
Here is my all league for the del rio league, but remember its the coaches who vote.
G- Cole (SF)
G- corona (sf)
F-Palomino (Cal)
F- alvarez (La serna)
C-Michael Crosby (PHS)- best numbers at big man better than drew sorry cal and outplayed harris one on one
2nd team
G- ??? any guard but since everyone else is so close im gonna go with rudy casillas SF because they are in first place
G/F-Saucedo (ER)
G/F-Saldana (PHS)
F- leonette (WHS)
C- Drew harris (cal)
if u make the argument to flop crosby with harris than i would flip saldana with palomino but thats just me your thoughts...?
Its funny because there is so much hype about Maurice and Drew, but they're not even the best players on their team. I thought Drew was the best player, but every league game Timmy Palomino out scores Drew. Also, I think in league games Frank And Maurice are about even in scoring but Frank averages more assists
C Drew Harris
PF Derrick Williams
SF Jordan Sach
SG Maurice Cole
PG Frank Corona
2nd Team
C John Diaz
PF Andrew Torres
SF Timmy Polomino
SG Michael Saldana
PG Ryan Kelly
Maurice Cole should get the Del Rio League Player of the Year
Maurice cole should make the all-area team, he's avergaing 17 a game. Derrick should get MVP, Drew Harris is really good but his attitude will keep him from winning MVP. Jordan Sach is a great player and Frank Corona is quick, gots handles, gets his teamates involved and scores when he needs to.
- Derrick Williams
- Drew Harris
- Jordan Sach
- Maurice Cole
- Frank Corona
I am Cal Hi alum and now reside in Orange County, with son playing in Empire league. I call it like i see it, either la Habra kid or La Mirada kid hands down the Del Rio league is down and players are very average if best. I can truly say not impressed with any player in Del Rio, and being objective I have nephew who plays at Cal and have ties to best player at pioneer.
Frank actually had 24 against whittier and 18 against La Serna
I want to make sure others don't turn there cheek to LM's pg Ryan Kelly. I've seen Cole play and by far Kelly is more prominent canidate for all area. The 1-2 punch of DWill&RKelly next year is gonna be SCARY!!! Don't sleep on super soph Connor Gillett next year! Connor will be suprising many around the area...
MVP- Derrick Williams
C- Drew Harris
F- Jordan Sach
F- Andrew Torres
G- Frank Corona
G- Maurice Cole
Yea frank corona is pretty decent, he's very unselfish and he scores as well. I believe he had 23 points against whittier. He has a total of 106 assists on the season and is averaging 11 points a game. He's second on steals and first with assists in the del rio league. I think him and maurice should be considered for all area. I think drew harris and Timmy Polomino are great players too. With the way Derrick williams is playing right now, I think there is no doubt that he said get all area mvp.
What do you think of S.F's Rudy Casillas #4?
Your all area team? I couldn't agree more with drl fan. Frank Corona is a kid worth being nominated, unselfish and doesn't have a bad attitude like someone we all know D.H.
Murray i know you're busy and all, but I was wondering if you can post a blog just like the pasadena star news did on who the best players are in the history of the del rio league in boys and girls basketball since you been around. Like a first, second, and honorable mention team. Thanks!!!
Whoever you are ...
Taylor Siemens not deserving POY award?
I guess you didn't attend many of LM's game last year. Especially the one @ Artesia when neither Story, Harden, nor Sidney could stop Taylor. Best part about it, was during the game when Harden & Story were taking trash to Siemens he let em know that basketball wasn't even his best sport!!!
Who would of been your POY last year ...?
fan from afar,
Are you serious? Have you looked around lately? Take off the blinders.
It evens out Matt Piazza because Taylor Siemens did not deserve player of the year last year
Roger, you really missed the boat last year when awarding the Santa Fe coach "Coach of the Year" over the obvious and deserving choice, La Mirada's Larry Kaupang. This one's even easier: Derrick Williams. End of story.
drew harris bad attitude would lose my vote for all area and cal hi will finish 3rd at best in the del rio they will lose two or 3 in the second round***
like it was said befor palomino is a better player acosta from la serna hasnt done a thing this year and has just as bad an attitude.....
i hate santa fe but i must admit he has done a good job leading his team and he would get my vote thus far as del rio league player of the year, but watch out for the juniors palomino-cal
saldana-pioneer
salcedo-el rancho
these guys can make a second half push for postseason accolades
Anyone check out the freshman starting for La Habra? The kid can play.
Maurice Cole postition is point guard, you need a guy like him to drive to the basket like he does, look at S.F.winning record the stats that should say it all. Without a point guard like him S.F wouldn't have a 5-0 record.!
Hey Evelyn Lopez, you say Maurice Cole should be player of the year? Come on he is not that good and he shoots way too much. Derrick is the player of the year for sure!!!
I want to see Derrick Williams play a little defense before he gets player of the year. Defense is more than block shots.
Look at the guys he guarded in league. They've been scoring on him too. He couldn't even guard Dominique Moreno from La Habra.
Derrick Williams of La Mirada HS, bonified superstar. Kid is by far the class of Boys Basketball in the Whittier Area. He's still only a Junior, but he should be the POY for the next two years. He'll be bringing colleges from all over the nation to La Mirada from now and till he commits somewhere.
To the writting staff for youth sports of Whittier daily news. I am very dissapointed in the fact that anypaper would run a front page shot of a Basketball team/or Individual that lost. Its bad enough that I have to see Cal Hi when they win but when they loose? You posted a big article about their loss what about the team that won? Lets be fair. To all other Bball fans look out for Fernando and John Diaz from La Serna you might be surprised they both are very Talented players, I think John was highest scorer last two games and Fernando well he's 6 7 need I say more.
Player of the year should be Santa Fe's Maurice Cole without a doubt he's the player worth talking about!
the amico twins from whittier..those girls can play.
jessica vingerelli from santa fe is overrated thats all i got to say
for the person that said drew harris was the only del rio league player that deserved all aea you spoke too soon against pioneer on friday he only had 6 points both 3 pointers pioneer held him to zero points in the paint wow thats all area it looked like palomino is a much better all league canidate.
santa fe center jessica vingerelli has averaged a double double against quality compitition while often bieng doubled teamed
check out the oilers of montebello andrew torres. only a 10th grader. he should be on the all area team. he plays center power forward. but he can also handle the ball.the oilers are having a good season they have beaten most of the del rio league. not much to talk about but its a start go oilers
Player of the year for girls should be:
St. Paul Lady Swordman team however if you had to go with one or two:
Skye Savini-clutch player with phenominal ups.
Lesley Vodicska-great assists, stifiling D and lesdership
Player to watch:
Andrina Rendon-a pure shooter
player of the year for the boys should be deerick williams easily.
first team should be:
jordan sachs, drew harris, and thats the only ones worth talking about so far
Derrick Williams unanimous decision for POY award. Dominated Mayfair @ Mayfair 31pts 12reb and 4blks. The way DWill is playing is scary..and he is only a Junior!!!
