I was just reading on the Cerritos College website that former Schurr tackels Mike Diaz and Phillip Garcia have signed letter of intents to University of Arizona. Congradulations to both of them.

My nephew told me he heard that Coach Jiminez' son and his buddies are trying to get into Servite. Is this true? If it is,that is BS! We cannot afford to lose any bodies.

Well, hopefully he passes his classes for the remainder of the year at SPHS. In college he'll probably have a mandatory study hall if he's a bad student. There's always the prop 48 route if he doesn't qualify.

On the field Flores is the real deal but it’s a whole different story when it comes to the class room. For 3 years the staff at SF fought to help young Mr. Flores just to stay CIF eligible hoping that the desire to play sports would encourage him to do better in the classroom but if you ask any of his SF classmates you’d find that he always found a way to get into some sort of trouble. (how many months to graduation)

I really don’t see how 1 year at SP changed 3 years of squeaking bye grades and get him into college. Really makes you wonder to the validity of PIT MAN’s post.

The Minnesota Morehead coach is Damon Tomeo, SPHS class of '95. I don't know if he owed anyone a favor, it seems like Flores is the real deal.

I heard that Minnesota St. threw Flores a bone. The head coach actually went to SP and he owed administration a favor. Anyone else hear that?

Trust me if Utah , San Jose St or Fresno St , had really offerd he would have accepted , Fresno sT. is one of his favorite schools and was hopeing for an offer from them..
I will go on record , that Aubrey never received 1 offer , since being at ST.paul...

If not,that's just pathetic. When I played at SPHS there was almost no help at all, but we at least had someone to splice a VHS together.

Aubrey Haynes , Has the grades and is clearinghouse aproved. I think what the problem is that coach Gonzalez is more worried about winning and bringing in new recruits than getting the boys on to college. Aubrey was the best player in the area and didnt get 1 offer , what does that say to potential kids and parents that are thinking about sending there son to St.Paul?
I agree Aubrey whould give up that ring for a scholarship,and probably wishes he stayed at Diamond Ranch...

All of a sudden you 2 are insiders and know exactly what happened? There is a lot more than you know about and grades were not the issue.

There is nothing wrong with going to Fresno, San Jose and Utah to name a few. Not everyone gets an offer from USC, UCLA, etc.

it was not sps fualt he didn't have the best grades, he went to santa fe for 3 years, sp did what it could to help him get eligible and succeeded.

Another fine example of the poor job SP does with student athletes and academics. That quote from Flores is startling, "I didn't have the grades". This happpens year after year. Pete G only cares about Friday nights!

I don't know David on the personal level. However, what I have seen is a very respectful young man well liked by everyone at St. Paul. He has become a true Swordsmen.

I congratulate him on his choice to attend college. It is the degree that he will earn that will matter and not whether he played D1, 2, 3 or whatever.

Congrats to David Flores and his parents they have done a wonderful job raising there children. Everyone from the Springs is very proud of you. Congrats to David Flores and his family. No matter what anybody says the kid got A FULL RIDE FOR FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION. No matter what division he plays in that is a GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT, especially being a football player of mexican descent.

We should all support David, Santa Fe alumni as well as St. Paul alumni and anyone that has known him in the Santa Fe

David had D1 talent but just like "Minnesotas newest fan" said unfortunately David did not have the classes or high enough grades for that. Hopefully this higher education helps him find his path and he gets a college degree.

i would love to see the san antonio and miramonte leagues come into the southeast division-but i would not add the pacific-i would just take out the golden west and freeway put them in the southwest division and leave the other leagues in-so keep the del rio ,almont and mission valley in so you would have a true geographical division-that would be the best in my opinion

FOOTBALLFAN, do us all a favor and get your facts straight. Do you know first hand about Aubrey Haynes? I do! And yes he has had numerous offers from schools and he just weighing his options. I know for a fact that he has at least 6 offers from D1 schools. So enough of your childhood antics. Sounds like your just jealous that your kid or yourself will be home for spring practice.
Why would you blame the coaching staff for a kid not getting a offer? I was a pac 10 player that went to Long Beach Poly and know the recruiting process. It's about dollars and cents and not about favors. But it's obivious that you have never been down that road before. So save the comments.
Finally , as for David Flores. What parent or player would be unhappy with all the good things that happened this year? CIF champions, CIF player of the year,College scholorship and the list goes on and on. Being negitive will eat you alive. Don't hate ,Congradulate! good job this SP football.

Santa Fe is the biggest cheaters in the area. At least St. Paul can recruit kids because they are a private school. Santa Fe recruits and they are a public school. Why do you think they did so horrible this year? They did not have any recruits thats why. Oh and by the way, Santa Fe is becoming a wrestling and basketball school!

Congrats to all athletes that get the opportunity to futher their education. David worked hard. ( my son witnessed this)He was at every practice- giving it all, every morning workout and then he had to gain the trust of his team-mates. So what if he is a transfer..parents need to realize that not all high school football stars get recruited..and when it comes to college level football..size does matter. Please parents stop with all the negative concern about this young man..Parents worry about your OWN children... David comes from a beautiful family who loved him enough to make a tough decision and change schools. C'mon do you really think any senior wants to leave all his friends... but it had to be done.. Remember this was no instant slam dunk for him..he had to work hard. I congratulate his parents..because this is every parents goal!!

Im hearing from people that , CIF player of the year , Area player of the year Aubrey Haynes has not received 1 collage offer since hes been at St.Paul... With sighning day 2 days away and the best player in the area wont be sighning with anyone...

Regardless of whether he is going to attend a lower level school, the good news is that he is going to attend a school and now it is up to him to graduate and return with a degree. The rest is just "window dressing". Good luck and finish what you started and that is going to school. Also,
regardless of where he went his final year in high school, his ability allowed him to end up where he belongs at the division 2 level. Good luck in the future.

Wow Division II. All David did when he was at Santa Fe was talk about going to a Pac 10 school, and how St Paul was going to get him there. Its too bad that he left Santa Fe. In the last 8 years Santa Fe has had more kids go strait to Div I and Div 1AA Colleges than all of the other Del Rio teams, and ST. Paul combined. There is no Question that if David would have stayed at Santa Fe and followed the guidance of the staff he would have had a better shot at a D1 BIG TIME PROGRAM!!!

Great Job by Flores. Many from Santa Fe questioned his tranfer, many friends, coaches and faculty were upset, only few supported him. Well he did what he said he was going to do.

Flores left for his own personal reasons. He wanted to get noticed because I think everyone in the area knows it is hard to get a look in the DRL and in Divison 7.

He was a big kid, who hit hard, was fast, and played smart. He wanted to test his talent against better competition and he excelled and answered every challenge. He is a CIF Champ, 1st Team LB on many team all-star teams, as well as a ALL-CIF Defensive MVP. And most of all he is receivingan ATHLETIC SCHOLARCHIP for a FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION, thats something that not many hispanics that come from the Santa Fe/Whittier area can say.

I have known David Flores and his family for a long time and I offer my congratulations to him and his family.

At the same i could only imagine if David had the same poise in the classroom as he had in the football field. I for one know that many D1 BIG TIME PROGRAMS were looking at him but shyed away bc of his grades at SF.

But SP faculty took him and made him into a better man and student-athlete.

Thomas Fraijo, a Senior at Western Christian High School in Covina will sign his NLI this Wednesday at school in a small ceremony; committing to New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
He received a very generous football scholarship from them.
Thomas is 6-foot-1, 225-pound linemen for the Fighting Lancers of Western Christian, coached by Coach Chris Long. He was big part of their defense this season
