Parsons Bows Out
Breaking News
After a successful one-year tenure in which he turned around the El Rancho High School football program, coach Gene Parsons has stepped down.
Parsons, who as late as last Friday said he would be returning for a second season, cited "family reasons" for his sudden departure.
The 61-year Parsons said that rumors and speculation about the future of the program did not play into his decision.
Parsons led El Rancho to a 5-6 record and its first postseason berth in three years. There will be more in the paper coming soon.

Any familiar names within those 5?
There are five candidates being interviewed this coming week. The announcement is tentatively scheduled for this coming Friday the 25th. I dont expect any transfers to come over, however, I have heard that St. John Bosco's Kyle Washington is ready to come back to El Rancho. With the new coaching staff, expect other talented players in the area to step up. Stay tuned...

Don't hold your breath. All things considered, any decision appears to be at least a solid two, more likely three weeks hence.
They are still forming the committee for the interview process, which "hopefully will begin next week."
As for a target date to announce a new hire, everything still too vague.
Stay tuned, ... I guess.
Has the administration set a date for the new hire? With spring football coming up, ER is at a huge disadvantage by not having a system in place. I hope they announce something within the next week.
I did not mean know. I meant, come on now. I do not know who it is. You need to ask el rancho he knows. Hey murray or campa how come you can't put a football write up once a week. Fred does every monday. I think its a great idea.
Big Red,
What rb? That is news to me and im in the know?
John Aguirre is a well respected man who was the head coach at Garfield High, coached at Bishop Amat and became the head coach at Carson High school were he led the school to a CIF city section championship. He is a proven coach and I agree would do well for the school but I doubt very much he would take the position. John Aguire is an administrator and currently holds the positon of CIF City Section director.
Who is Aguirre? Where has he coached?
It will not be John, but what is this talk about a coach from ELAC, come on know give up his name and if he comes he will bring a RB with him.
I tell you this much, if you guys land Aguirre it will be the best pick up in school history. Aguirre is a proven winner. I was privlaged to have been coached by him and I can tell you first hand that he will make ER into a football powerhouse.
its too bad for El Rancho,
I have a good friend (former SF Alumni) who was a coach in a different sport at the ranch, he said that the administraion there gave him no support what so ever! they changed the locks in the locker room and did not give a key, had to buy equipment for his team and they would not reimburse him at all its sad to see a school not get behind their kids especially with how much alumni pride they have there good luck no kids deserve that PLAY HARD PLAY SAFE
LA Preps
That was the best write up, you have put out. Your thoughts, ideas and facts. Not hopes and dreams. I will say that I have no clue to who the next head coach is going to be, and the ranch needs to pick one fast. Spring ball will be here in about a month. With so much to do, and asst coaches to pick. Will they be all walk-ons, is there anybody on staff next year who will coach. Lots of ?????
BIG RED,
Last year I made a big push for Jose Casagran. The reason? The guy can coach and is a proven winner. He expressed initial interest, then bowed out during the interview process. Aguirre wants the AMAT job if they showed him the money. Otherwise, expect him to stick with his current position. Hiatt wont get the job, not enough time to invest in the program, though he is a good guy, and descent coach, though he was torn apart by Jordan during the La Serna game. Zamora and Ledesma are great alumni, and can do well with the program, but with the budget crisis, I doubt the school will be able to offer them jobs in the district. That leaves the situation open for a walk-on. I will not divulge the person who has a legitimate chance to get the job, because things are up in the air right now with the district. They are scheduled to discuss school closures sometime next week, and the administration is looking for a "loop-hole" that wont put them in legal hot water if they were to offer a teaching position to a potential head coach. My prediction is expect a walk-on. More details on who it is when the interview process commences...stay tuned!

PS. Nice to see you back BIG RED
ElRancho, LA Preps,& other Ranch fans,
I'm a West Covina fan and I heard we play you next season, I was wondering How the Ranch is looking for next year? Beating Santa Fe and a pretty good Cal Hi team is a good turnaround for a team that was 0 & 10 the year before. Do you have a lot returning players?
LA Preps el rancho
Maybe you do know a little something about ER. I talked to some admin. from ER and they said they are looking for a walk on coach, because of the budget crisis. So who would you like it to be.
ER will be lucky to make it out of the first round with the new Division. Nobody wants the job, not even Parsons when he took it and thats a fact. No one will work for free
el rancho and LA Preps
You guys were saying the same things last year. This coach or that coach, is going to come in and everybody better watch out. Were taking over the world, I mean the south east div. I know you knew that Parsons, was going to be the man all along right. el rancho last year you were telling everbody to stop living in the past 0-10 remember? so I was always here reading your ups and your downs. Just like the ups and downs Whittier was having.
What is the deal with all the secrecy? If you guys have a guess, who is it? Remember, El Rancho Unified is going to be hit hard by the state cut backs, and might not be able to hire someone from outside the district? But I still want to know who you think it might be?
bigred nice of you to chime in, where were you the day after october 25th 2007?? LaPreps is not talking about Casagran and its not going to be Aguirre either, I know exactly who he is talking about and if this person does get the job, lets just say teams in the Southeast are going to have a very hard time stopping ER's Running game.
And who would that be LAPreps?
LA Preps
Are you the Nostradamus of Pico Rivera, what kind of prediction is that. First you say EXPECT a walk-on to take over. ER has never had a walk-on head coach, but with budget cuts comming, Ill give you a 10% chance that it could happen, but to EXPECT it to happen. I would not put my money down on that one. Second you say If it is who I think it is. Why don't you just tell us who you think, or hope its going to be. Do you think its going to be Casagran, after he didn't go to his second interview last time. Or do you think its going to be John A. will he come and coach, now that he didn't want yhe Amat job. Or are you going to wait till they pick the head coach and tell us all, I told you so. And last El Rancho will dominate the South East division for many years to come. On April 24 CIF will have a final vote and the South East will look like this Almont, Del Rio, Miramonte, Pacific, San Antonio. I don't see El Rancho dominating for years to come. That Ill put money on. Good luck to everyone in the del rio.
Southeast better be ready, big things going down at the ranch. Wait and see a kaboom is coming!!!!! I cannot wait!!!
Your full of crap if you thinkg Hiatt will get the job. They should hire somebody that has the energy and will do a good job: Padilla brothers or Zamora.
With the ERUSD in a budget crisis, it will be interesting how the administration handles the new hire.
My prediction: Expect a walk-on to take over the program. If it is who I think it is. El Rancho will dominate the SouthEast Division for many years to come!
Wow….ER beats Santa Fe and an undefeated Cal High making it into the playoffs after a 0-10 season only to see the wheels seemingly fall off the wagon.
What is going on at El Rancho!!! What a shame for such a storied football program. Hopefully Coach Parsons did not step down because there was a lack of enthusiasm from the administration. I wish him the best of luck with his future, he was a great coach, a good man, and I have never heard a bad comment about him.
