Del Rio League softball; there's La Serna, and then .... ?
They'll begin the chase to unseat defending Del Rio League champion La Serna Tuesday, and while the rest of the league seems relatively balanced, the Lancers' pitching clearly sets them a notch above the rest of the league.
Holly Consterdine is the area's premier returning hurler, and newcomer Kelsey Marker has wasted no time in establishing herself as a capable replacement for departed Devin Lindsay (Dartmouth College).
Coupled with the offense led by power hitters Amanda Perez, Brandi Rummel and Ashley Holmes and a solid defense anchored by shortstop Ashley Ramirez, second baseman Katrina Castaneda and center-fielder Brooke Putich, La Serna's program is the most complete of all the league entries.
This is not to say the Lancers are unbeatable.
There are teams capable of upsetting them, if the equation is right.
A quick look around the league:
1. La Serna - Simply too much of everything, and then some.
2. California - Still has the most impressive infield/outfield pregame drill. Condors need to carry over some of the energy and execution from pregame into the real game.
3. Santa Fe - Like the Chiefs' baseball team, the softballers have talent; it's time for it to step up.
4. El Rancho - Dons' defense appears solid, but holes in lineup may preclude them from the consistency necessary to compete on a regular basis.
5. Pioneer - Winning nine out of 10 games, including eight-game streak, is impressive, but can the Titans keep it going when league starts?
6. Whittier - Hands down the area's most improved program over the past two seasons. A fun team to watch
and clearly ripe to ruin somebody's season.
Agree?Or disagree? Briefly, please, briefly.

Another proud display of the public school system?...or is the overall dumbification of the rap generation? C'mon get a clue
THERE WHITTIER LADY CARDS THEY GOT THE PITCHING FINALLY THE DEFENSE ALL THEY NEED IS THERE BATS AND ITS ON SO LOOK OUT CAUSE " WHITTIER IN THE HOUSE"
Good luck to the Lady Cardinals!!!! I'm pretty confident that they will ruin somebody's season. These girls have worked hard as a team, and will prove there way to the top.
You have to hand it to La Serna's female athletes this year. The #1 golfer in the State; a soccer CIF crown; the top ranked softball team, etc. The boys' programs are pretty good there in most sports, too, but the girls dominate the area competition in several sports. Props to the Lady Lancers!
